Hi there guys and gals. Today I went out and played Paintball for the first time and what an experience. I love it and I'm hooked. I bought a 98 Custom and Chest Protector. That's it. Out of the 4 games I managed to get hit once and took one player out. Won 2 out of 4 so I think it's a good start. My question to everyone is after how many times or matches will I have to clean my 98? Also, if someone can point me in the right direction as in which addons can help me or improve the accuracy, speed and add a little distance to my 98? I'm so happy with it. I don't think it has that "ACT". What's funny is that our team consisted of 6 new players. We've never did this before so now we're in it for the long haul. Thanks for reading my post and any help is greatly appreciated. |

Thanks. I'll look into those pieces. I checked my 98 and the barrel was clean, I took a peak inside and it looked clean. You think I can go another couple of rounds like that or should I just open up and start the cleaning? What area some if not a good fast hopper? |

There is no such thing as cleaning your barrel too often. As far as cleaning the internals I usually disassemble and clean mine in the spring before I play and in the fall before I put them away. Any other disassembly/cleaning is based on if it is needed because of broken paint or other contaminants inside the marker.

welcome to the sport. As said above cleaning the barrel can never be done enough. As far as a new barrel I highly reccomend the J&J or the Lapco BigShot. Both are excellent barrels for a very good price. As far as cleaning the internals of the gun there are different practices. Many do a full clean with full disassembly only everynow and then. I personally prefer to strip my gun after every use and clean it thuroughly. Thanks for the help guys. After much debating, I'm going with the 14" J&J Ceramic Barrel. I'll be ordering it tonight. As for the speed, I'll be getting the E-trigger next month and I would assume that I need a faster feeder. So I guess it's safe to say that I would need the Cyclone Feeder. Now if I'm right, my 98C says a number 5048057. Is that the serial? If so, will the E-Trigger and the Cyclone fit without too much or no modification to the gun itself? Do I have to modify or DIY anything on the 98 Custom? I'm just using the CO2 to get used to it first. |

Sounds like exactly what I was going to tell you. A 14" J&J Ceramic is a really good barrel, and it's pretty cheap in terms of price too. The E-trigger will definately help you shoot faster, and like you said, you will need a faster hopper and I think the Cyclone Feed is the way to go. As far as I know I think all 98 Custom's should work with the E-trigger, maybe it as only the older ones which you probably don't have. The cyclone and E-trigger should work. For me I've been sticking to CO2 for around 5 years. lol maybe that's a good decision, maybe it's bad. But for me and around here I think it's easier to find places to fill CO2 so I've never really bothered changing over, plus I play for fun out in my own field and woods with a nice number of people so nobody else uses HPA either. But yea, stick with those upgrades and have fun, it's a pretty awesome sport.

Thanks for the help guys. I've been BITTEN HARD by the Paintball Bug. Another question. I'm sure it will be pretty dumb. How can I tell if my 98C is a new version or if it has ACT? Like I stated, it has a number on the gun. 5048057 Oh. Between the E-Trigger and Response Trigger, which is better? And finally, which is a hopper that is better or which will keep up with my setup? Halo B or Dye Rotor I'm going to use a J&J Barrel and E-Trigger. |

id go e-trigger.
and if the gun had ACT it would have a little blue gem on the grip that said ACT.
the halo b is a nice hopper, but the rotor feeds way faster. if you have the $150 to drop id go rotor.

| Cyclones sell for around $50-60. Personally, I would go with a cyclone. No batteries to change and cheaper. |

Since the Cyclone will be fed from the CO2 (I assume), will there be some major modifications that I would have to do? I'm some what trying to avoid that since I'm not all that great with DIY. I'll open the Marker if I have to to maintain it, but modifying for the time being seems a bit scary to me. |

Cyclones work fine on CO2 or HPA. Installing a Cyclone is considered a bolt on. |

There is "no right number of turns" for setting velocity; the only way to properly adjust velocity is through the use of a chronograph. Edit: I suggest that you read through the "stickied" topics at the top of the various forums. These threads contain the answer to this and many other common questions. -------------

Never just take your gun apart and clean its not that easy get the manual out study the parts than take it apart very slowly or parts will fly and the you have no clue what is what so just take it slow not in one big rush youll make it a couple more rounds!!

The screw is for the response trigger line. That screw would be removed and a line would go from there to the back of the trigger handle. You do not have to worry about taking this out at all. Any other ?`s just ask ill se if i can help. |

That's not a wire, it's a hose.
Yes. You just take the marker halves apart to install the piston in the grip (which requires knocking out the knock-out plug in the right side grip for the rear fittings), then put it back together and hook up the hoses. After that you just have to rechrono (because any modifications can affect velocity) and tune the R/T to the desired rate of fire. -------------

Well guys, I officially bought the E-Trigger. Simple to install but man does it waste balls and CO2. I like it very much but I had a couple of issues on the field. First off, CO2 wasted real quick. I know, I can't keep the finger on the trigger the whole time, but that's how one learns. Off of mistakes. Now, the accuracy of my gun. I have the 14" J&J and one thing I noticed was that some shots went off completely. I cleaned it out a few times with the rubber cleaner but I would notice the balls curve and what not. Could it have been that a ball or two would pop in the 98C and cause the balls to go off some where else other than straight? Could they have been big cheap balls? CO2? |

I have a question on cleaning my J&J barrel. It's pretty dirty on the outside and I wanted to clean it real good. Can I soak it in water or will that affect the barrel? Oh, another question is on the e-trigger's spring. mine got busted up. it got bent. can I use a pen spring for that one also just like the trigger? |

Naw, I'm not washing it. Does it matter what type of cloth you use to clean the inside of the J&J? I mean, I'm using a soft cloth from the dollar store. It does not have any sharp edges or anything. |

The best way to clean a barrel is to soak it in warm soapy water. Rinse, then dry with a cloth. Brillo or SOS pads are not recommended for cleansing the inside or outside of the barrel. -------------

Thank you. Question on the Cyclone. I bought it installed it and it was simple. Now, how tight do I screw in the screw? It has a o-ring on it. Also, when you shoot does it get really cold? I noticed that the gun gets much colder now. |

The faster you shoot, the colder your gun gets when using CO2, I would recommend getting High Pressure Air as it is much more consistent and doesn't potentially freeze up your gun.
I also noticed you were asking how to get a little more distance on your shots. I would consider looking into the APEX barrel. -------------  |
