Well the ambulance has to be stopped to run a 12 lead anyways!

Posted By: Linus
Date Posted: 01 April 2009 at 2:15am
Doesn't take 10 minutes to get a 12-lead reading!

Hell, this is the part that got me;

Quote I thought it was one of those ambulances they use to pick people up but did not think it was a real ambulance.

maybe it's just me, but I don't care if it's my next door neighbor asking me or the dang pope....if i'm blocking a car in and they ask me to move, i'll get off my hind parts and move the dang car. Is it that hard to be a decent human being these days?

Two comments:

The ambulance should not have been parked where it could be blocked unless there's absolutely no choice.

The woman should be charged with involuntary manslaughter, or whatever its equivalent is in Britain.

Sometimes you just really don't want people parking in your driveway.

I'm sure you've done a call or two to a house.   If it's a really long driveway, that necessitates parking in it. If it's a short one, then yes, you can park in the road. Seeing as how it was a shared driveway, and looking at the pictures, it necessitated parking in it.

But a driver has to be completely mentally retarded to go "Ohh.. an ambulance with it's lights on. Ok I'll park infront of it"

Read the article... there appears to be shrubbery on either side.

Also, being in the back of the truck or on the cot and going over the smallest of bumps is not a comfortable thing.

looks like the driver could have cut through behind the middle shrub into the other side of the drive. bumps may be uncomfortable, but its better than being dead.

If it wasn't one of those Wussyized little European ambulances, they probably could have at least pushed the car out of the way.

Tiny European Car base ambulance  = 0

There's nothing to indicate that she caused his death in the article.

I'm sure if they considered her actions to be that serious, they would charge her.  She was being stupid, yes.  But there's every chance that what she did had no effect on the man's health.

In dealing with cardiac patients, a delay of 10 minutes from care is enough to significantly reduce the likeliness of survival.

The entire body is at risk, and different parts die at different times. As time goes by, the body gets exponentially worse when starved of oxygen and nutrients. Because of that, the effect of a 10 minute delay is devastating in this situation.

Its the UK...

You know, "universal Health care"... and all.

The only reason this is a story is because the man was "waiting" in a driveway instead of "waiting" to see a doctor at the hospital... Either way, he would have died...

I can't wait until we get universal health care here too. Yippee. Long lines at the emergency room, and people outraged at the lack of service...

Yes... the woman was sent by the UK government to stall the ambulance because it costs too much for quick transport.

You are exaggerating those effects.  The most important ones take place within minutes of oxygen loss.  This guy died over an hour later.  There were clearly complications which would have affected him whether she was there or not.

FE, thats taking it just a little bit too far... I'm from Canada, we have the same healthcare system. Its not that bad. ESPECIALLY if its an emergency. Your comment was a bit uncalled for. Also there are almost never lines in the ER.

Granted  accident and emergency is usually busy and you might need to wait a while for a boo boo. But never long enough not to still be grateful for the service.

I can't wait until we get universal health care here too. Yippee. Long lines at the emergency room, and people outraged at the lack of service...  Completely irrelevant. He could just as easily of had private health care. Lack of service..? It's a hospital mate, Not starbucks.

I still don't get how the option of free medical care is a bad thing.

High sales tax and low nursing/doctors wages... but other than that its gravy.

Doctors get paid ok. GP's are on  £100,000+
VAT (I'm assuming you're talkng about) 15%.
Nurses could be better but they still make a decent living. Saving lots of lives and making these lives better without bankrupting people as a matter of social responsibility makes up for any shortcomings IMHO.

Mine is fine.  Then again, I live in middle/upper-class-suburban America, so I would guess that means I'm in the minority.  And I've only been there once...at 7 in the morning on a Saturday.  Everyone else in the world was sleeping off a hangover.

Having experience in a hospital ER, I can tell you that lines are already very long. I saw people sit in hospital beds for hours before relieving treatment. If you want priority in an ER, you've gotta cough up the extra few hundred bucks and have an ambulance take you.

The problem isn't necessarily the lack of doctors or anything. Current hospital protocols make doctors take forever to do their business, and they don't stop moving.
