Nothing to worry about. I heard that they're only bringing Malkin. Something about Crosby being out due to a hissy fit because his room-mate refused to let him watch "Rainbow Brite" when the traveled to Philly.

That's just because Ovi likes to let the rest of the team get in on the action. Hell, our defense-men play better than most of your forwards.

What is it with you Caps fan?? You whine about how Crosby is overrated, but it's all of you that can't get over him!
The numbers say what most open minded hockey fans already agree on...Ovechkin is a first rate goal scorer (more goals, a zillion more shots on goal), Crosby is a better playmaker (similar points totals but a lot less goals means many more assists).
Don't get too excited either. I know Caps fans aren't familiar with how the playoffs thing work, most of those "Rockin' the Red" had no idea that DC had a hockey team until Ovechkin came to town, but the playoffs are a team sport.
As much as the NHL is falling over themselves to turn this into the Crosby vs Ovechkin show, the bigger story will probably be a question of goaltending.

I would! The man threw down with Bob Probert as a rookie and walked away unscathed after they both went to the ice. He's one of the most talented enforcers out there. The man can skate, pass, shoot, hit, and get the message across which is a lot more than any other enforcer can do. And if you want to come down to fighting... well...

What can I say? Crappy officiating combined with lackluster offensive performance by the Caps and you wind up with a loss in OT. Mind you, even with a lackluster performance from our offensive crew, we still tied it and forced it to overtime. If it hadn't been for that crap "slashing" call after the refs decided not to call the two goalie interferences just prior, it'd be a 3-0 series right now. But, you can't win them all. We're still better. Pens played their hearts out and won it in OT. Caps played like crap and still took it to OT. Kinda shows who's got the better team if you ask me.

No, I didn't listen to Vs play by play...I can't stand Doc Emerick. However, Sid is the team captain...it's his job to talk to the refs...he's the representative of the team!

Their directional mics picked Crosby complaining to the refs about an off-sides call when his team mate was 20 feet in front of the blue line before the puck crossed. I can understand talking about some calls, but you need a leg to stand on, otherwise it's just complaining. His tone of voice really didn't help his image either. Rather whiny.

You know what? Fine, for the sake of argument, lets call Crosby whiny. He is a whiner. In that case, he has a long way to go to catch up to members of the Capitals organization.

"I don't think it's a secret that you want to get the puck deep and you want to take Malkin and Crosby out of the situation," he added, "but other than that, it's just so unprofessional. You allow people access to your room, with the [expectation] that it's going to be a business situation, and to do that before the game gives the other team an unfair advantage."
|
Washington GM George McPhee wrote:
"they shouldn't have done it," he said. "They should know better than to do that. They've been talked to."

McPhee wrote:
"I was disappointed with the officiating last night," McPhee said. "One team gets seven power plays, the other team gets two. It's hard to win that game. How is Ted Leonsis making sure that the fans who keep his organization going strong through their continued support "whining"?
How is Boudreau admonishing the CBC for essentially giving away game plans to the other team whining? At no point does he say that it's unfair, he says it's pretty tasteless, but he never blames the way the game went on that.
There's a difference between pointing out that the refs are blind to the Pens blatant penalties yet calling every minor infraction that the Caps incurred and crying to a ref that your team-mate wasn't off-sides when he clearly was.
Crosby's an excellent example of the "entitlement" generation. If things don't go his way, he whines, cries, and complains to anyone who will listen.

I JUST got home from tonight's game!! What a game! It was incredible. The Caps scored very early on in the game, and from there, it was the Penguins all night long. But the Caps kept in it, to keep the suspense up.
Tallen, you can go ahead and call Crosby a whiner if it makes you feel good, because even if he is, I would much rather him whine than take runs and cheap shots like Ovechkin does. I can't say too much right now, because seeing it live in person isn't the same as seeing it the from the wrong end of the hockey rink...but from what I saw, it looked like Ulf Samuellsen-Cam Neely cheap.
But, in a weird way, it was probably good that Ovie DID make that cheap shot...otherwise, I wouldn't have even noticed him tonight.
EDIT: Just found this...even http://www.thestar.com/sports/article/630955 - The Toronto Star thinks the Washington organization whines.

Crosby > Ovechkin
Why don't you go tell ovi to quit his complaining...Crosby's got class...He cares more about his teammates and winning than trying to break knees and attempt to carry the entire game on his shoulders with disregard to his team...I mean its cool if you score all those goals and get to have a youtube mixed tape made of your unneccasry dekes and shots and have lebron give you a signed jersey to give ya some more press .we get it, you're a really high skilled player....but id rather see my team win the cup...doesnt anyone believe in modesty anymore? maybe it was better off when the only thing ovechkin could mutter in english was hockey and goal
P.S.
R.I.P. NYR...chances are glen sather's gonna trade the team away again or at least drury :(

This is the first time I've heard someone say that Ovechkin's moves are unnecessary. If the guy can score goals and look good doing it, then more power to him.
And its not like Crosby has won the cup. No one cares who almost won the cup. You've either won, or you haven't. I guess you're suggesting that because of Ovechkin's so called selfish play, that he'll never win. Did you see Malkin the other night? I love Malkin, but his end to end rushes and skating circles with the puck in the offensive zone isn't any worse than what Ovechkins done.

And? Your link just goes to prove me right.
Just because some copy editor decides to put up the headline "Ovechkin says Caps aren't getting any breaks" doesn't mean he's whining about it.
Alexander Ovechkin wrote:
"You can see it, first shift Stecks missed empty net and I said, 'Jesus, where is our luck?' " Ovechkin said. "The puck is bouncing and the next shift they get power play and score goal."
"I think we played good, but it's not good enough," Ovechkin said. "Next game is going to be different. They were in the situation when they lost (two in a row) and they came back right now, but it's not over yet. If somebody thinks it's over, it's not over."
"If we're going to play the same way we played in the first two periods, we're going to win this series," Ovechkin deadpanned. "We just have to play it simple, get the puck deep and make pressure for their D."
"We played well, but Malkin had a two-minute shift and he had the puck and just go around our D and try to make a pass and it hit our stick and goes into the net," Ovechkin said. "It's kind of a lucky goal, but it's a goal to win the game."
"Overtime, it's all about mistakes," Ovechkin said. "Players are going to score goals with the kind of mistakes we made. We give Malkin too many chances, he makes breakaway and (Jurcina) has to take a penalty. And, after that he just beat our defenseman (Fedorov) as our defenseman tried to make a safe play, but it didn't work. It's all about mistakes."
|
At no point is he complaining. At no point is he saying "home cooking refs" at no point is he blaming anyone for the shortcomings these past three games. If you'd see the interviews with the man, you'd realize that he takes everything at face value and doesn't let some losses get him down.

sorry tallen but that does sound like whining to me. he just needs to man up and stop trying to hit and go back to what he was doing all season. it worked then, there's no reason to change his style of play now. now Pittsburgh has too much momentum and they will win the next game no matter what

You show such a lack of ignorance on the way Ovechkin plays that it's not even funny. He had over 800 hits in the regular season. That's roughly 10 hits per game, and they're all quality. So by hitting, he's doing exactly what he's always done.

the way he is hitting now is different then how he has all season. he is taking runs at defensemen and taking himself out of the play with his hits.

Ovechkin is a hitter. I can respect that. But there is a difference in the way Ovechkin plays when he's playing the Penguins. I don't see many Capitals games, they're not on locally except when Versus picks up a Caps game, or NBC at the end of the season.
But it seems to me that Ovie is more likely to take himself out of the play to put the hit, like he tried on Malkin in regular season games this year and last...or the hit he tried on Brooks Orpik in game three.

Yeah, go look at that play again from all the angles. He's putting his shoulder into him and not intentionally catching the knee.

I haven't been watching this series as close as I wanted too, it looks like ovie is scoring almost all of the caps goals. Great as that is, and the ones I saw last night were incredible, you need more than your superstar scoring to win the cup. I hope the rest of the big guns step up, it's looking like this one will go 7 games.

Pens have NEVER won a game 7 when they lead the series 3-2 and lost in the 6th game. I'm expecting the Caps to keep that streak going on Wednesday.

Stats like those are entertaining, but worthless. Otherwise, I could lean on the stat that the Pens are 6-1 lifetime vs the Capitals in the playoffs.
Regardless of the score, the Penguins still outplayed the Capitals. They weren't the dominant team, like games four and five, especially through the second period, but they were still the better team.

Not really If the Pens were in any kind of good form tonight with the way the Caps are playing, they'd be up 10-1 right now. The Caps just disintegrated between game 6 and 7. Still can't get a break from the Refs either. A double minor when no blood is drawn? Buuulllll Crap!
