Apparently, the only decision that the NYS senate has made in the last few weeks is that yes, they should get their paychecks.
For those of you not paying attention, a few weeks ago, two democrats 'defected' giving the republicans the majority. In the midst of the democrats trying to figure out how that might be illegal, one of them shifted back, now the senate is deadlocked at 31-31, with no Lt. governor as a tiebreaker. Now they can't figure out whose in charge, so the democrats have been boycotting senate sessions, which doesn't allow for a quorum to be reached, nullifying every single freakin session for over two weeks now.
They DID decide however, that despite the two weeks of walking around sulking....that they should get paid for their work.
Needless to say, I'm a little pissed at these morons. Not only are they getting paid for diddling themselves for the last few weeks, but they're blatantly crapping on the taxpayers who have to keep giving them money for said diddling.

I like the part where the governor wants to dock their pay. Wouldn't do much good, but a nifty symbolic gesture anyway.

Yeah, but they're still screaming that they're entitled to their per diems to cover their expenses.
I don't have a lot of use for Gov. Patterson. Most New Yorkers don't anymore. He's afraid of overstepping his bounds on this one, which would lead to him getting NO support from whomever he backs, so he's content to hide under the bed until all this blows over.

I really don't understand why there isn't some way for voters to just fire them. Ban these guys (and gals) from office for the rest of their lives if necessary. It's absolutely ridiculous -- the Democrats literally locked the Republicans out of the Senate chamber, then the two of them held separate sessions?
The whole point of politics is compromise. If they can't do that, they shouldn't have jobs.

I kind of like it when the Democrats and Republicans are deadlocked. That is when they are too busy fighting each other to make new laws and taxes.
