When I first saw the previews, I didn't think much of it. Didn't really think anything would make me laugh quite the way Superbad and Borat did;

Until they just showed the exclusive preview on USA. I lol'd. Much.

IBT "Great story bro!"

Borat was hilarious.
The only reason I can think of for not wanting to watch it is the scene with fat-man nudity. I could have done without that.

Why exactly? I thought it was crackin'. Fair enough if you watched it and didn't like it then that's you perogative. Whatever tickles your pickle and all that. But flat out refusing to watch it? And since you have'nt seen it how do you know it's bad?

C'mon...

Same here, watched Borat and the Bruno preview with the GF last night. I was expecting Bruno to be a failed attempt to continue the success of Borat but it was actually pretty funny.

Drill Instructor: "You're finger is in my aisle!"
Bruno: "Not yet."

saw it two nights ago. went to a 10 pm showing and the theater was packed. i think only one person walked out  of the theater while it was still playing. overall, it wasnt that funny. it was a little too over the top. most of the funny scenes were shown in the previews. if i had to describe it in a few words, it is a 90 minute gay porno film.

Meh, definitely a let down.

A lot of the situations, skits and jokes were recycles from Da Ali G Show and his other movies.

You're surprised? When does that not happen? Same for Borat, and The Pick of Destiny, etc. Reused jokes about/ from the character, because they are sort of...trademarks?

There's a definite difference between the trademark jokes of a character, and recycling and repackaging old jokes and styles from other characters.

It doesn't matter if they're old and recycled. They were still friggin' hilarious. You sound like one of those people that would dislike a quality product not because of the product itself but because other people like it more than they should.

I haven't seen all of Borat, for which I am glad. The bits I DID see, weren't all that impressive. I loved the bit with the bear and the ice cream truck, but that was about it.

I have no desire to see Bruno.

This sort of comedy just doesn't appeal to everyone. I piucture the writers of these movies sitting in a room thinking "Oh No, This movie might not be funny enough, lets flash a penis or two, that'll get 'em!"

I think part of the appeal of Borat is some of the hilarious American social commentary that comes out of the movie. If I just wanted to see penises flashed, I'd just watch Jackass or something.

I was always a fan of the show (the US version, anyway - the UK version was too far out of context for me), but like all shows of this nature it was very hit and miss.

Borat was my least favorite character, although he did come up with some of the most brilliant moments ("Is she...?"  "NO!  She is not a slave!").  The Borat movie was more or less what I expected - some great moments and a lot of duds.  Basically an extended episode with some of the stops pulled out.

Bruno was my favorite character on the show, and I have high hopes, although again I think it is silly to expect something qualitatively different from an episode of the show.  All three characters are basically one-dimensional, and it is really the same joke over and over.  Doesn't mean it isn't funny - it just means you shouldn't expect anything different.

Very much looking forward to seeing the Bruno movie.

That seems like a pretty huge generalization and a completely miss of what I was saying.

A lot of the stuff he did just wasn't all that funny.  There were many moments that should have been hilarious, but it just wasn't.  There were a couple of really good moments, but the rest of it was a miss.

Borat was fantastic, and I've been looking forward to this movie since Cohen first hinted at it after Borat's release, but it felt like he chickened out some after that movie. In Borat, and the show, most of the humor was, as said above, from the commentary on culture and getting people to say horrible or awkward things.  The focus was on reactions and what people did.  In Bruno the jokes all seemed to be just about the charecter Bruno.

For me, it was a let down, that's all I'm saying.

I pay for pretty much everything.  She will buy lunch every now and then and bought me an hour long massage and chocolate cake last week.  But I mostly pay for everything.  She has to make car and insurance payments every month and doesnt have that much money laying around.  I, on the other hand, have a healthy chunk of change just laying around and no bills to pay.  We don't go out that often, but spending a few bucks on movie tickets or dinner is worth it to me.

And that's fine, but has nothing to do with Choop or I being "beat" because we let our dates pay for themselves. You pay because it is necessary and because you can. Slacker, apparently, pays for his girl because he thinks he would be a deadbeat otherwise, which isn't the case.

Not only broke, but you'd be a tool.

I dunno why everybody wouldnt just split everything. You pay one time, she pays another. Seems legit to me. If either were souly paying the whole thing than someones being used I'd think. Unless one is job less for a short time.

But to each his own I guess...?

Not what I was trying to imply. It has nothing to do with him paying, and everything to do with his attitude towards paying. Splitting things = far more mature than man automatically pays for everything.
Sure, pay for a dinner, or a movie here and there when you feel like it/ want to be special, but it's not an automatic, given. That's just silly.

So just got back from seeing it. Amazing. Very very very few movies have me/ the entire audience laughing that loudly, that often. Yeah the first 15 minutes ARE very graphic, but get over it and enjoy the movie. I still think I'd give the edge to Borat, but it's a great movie that I left from still chuckling. If you actually understood Borat and found the humour in the ridiculousness he was showing off, then this movie is (obviously) similar. Some of the things people say/ believe are just astounding, and he's supposed to be the absurd character...
Obviously lots of penis, but as I said before, get over it...its a penis.
