ok like i said im new i just picked up a tippmann 98 custom and so far i got the tippmann hopper,dead on drop forward,proto 14'' barrel and the dubble trigger. But i was looking around on youtube and everyone is useing air not c02 and there all using short guns my tippmann is long so what i wanted to know was how many people actually play with there 98 in games. I do. I use my 98 for Xball and when competing in woodsball.
Your setup is fine. With more experience you may want something else,
for now just try to enjoy the game. Have fun!

i agree with tinman. run with what you got and have fun. get used to playing and checking out other peoples gear. get an idea of whats out there before you go drop a lot of bank on gear you may or may not use or like. the 98 is a standard marker and a good place to start. welcome to the forum.

At all of the major fields here in the DC area, the majority of walk-on players (people who own their own equipment) are using a Tippmann of some type. It's a fantastic marker and with a little saving up and a few minor tweaks, you can make it shoot just as fast and make it just as tight as anyone out there. Don't get fooled into copying what everyone on youtube is using. A lot of times those guys couldn't hit the broad side of a barn while playing.
I own several markers myself. I tend to use my Autococker or Mini a lot more than my Tippmann these days, but I still have my tippy ready to save my butt when something goes wrong with the other two. Play for a while with what you have. See what you personally think needs to be improved and go from there! Don't forget to come back and ask about what upgrades you might want to get when you've got a better feel for what you're looking for! ------------- <Removed overly wide sig. Tsk, you know better.> |

Isaac I personally think you should have asked before buying or upgrading your tippmann. Many guys who own Tippmanns own only that marker which they use for all of there paintball ventures. 98 valves are made to be used with co2 with that said co2 tanks cost less but, are less consistent the compressed air tanks co2 air can cause "frost" on your gun and also out of your barrel which can be fixed by buying an upgrade or two co2 IMO from what I have seen are filled at more places such as sports authority then compressed air is. Compressed air works on just about all if not all paintball markers. If you ever upgraded to a high end marker you wouldnt need to buy a new tank just to use it . In conclusion I would suggest compressed air if there are local stores or paintball shops that do fill compressed air Co2 works fine on Tippmann 98s and with an anti syphon tube and or a coiled remote you will not get the frost effect. -------------

What?
Why should he ask first? He wanted to know if anyone played with 98's, 'because' he watched
some Youtube vids and noticed players using HPA and I would guess speedball setups.
