Subject: Why we stay here.
Date Posted: 14 July 2009 at 1:23pm
So I have been sitting here at the computer for about 10 hours ago. And got to thinking, why do we keep coming back to this forum. Most importantly T&O. Two thing I can narrow it down to is; 1. We are almost like a family. The moderators are the parents, and everyone else are... I guess siblings. You don't see on a lot of forums, with family members such as OS's wife; make a post on a fellow forumers health condition etc. Even though some of don't agree on OS's opinions, we still care about his health. Or how we wait for another stealth story, or pb125 telling us about.... we will leave it at that. Even though most of us haven't met each other face to face (some of you guys have), we can still kind of judge how they would be in real life; for the most part. When you read a title, and see who wrote it. You pretty much know before even clicking it, what it will be about, and how they will write the story. Or what agenda they are pushing for. Some posters more blatant than others *cough* FE and PP *cough*. That is one part of this "formula".

2. This is probably the only forum, I can go onto. Ask any question I can think of; and get a pretty good response. Because we all come from differen't backrounds and have knowledge in vast areas. To pick a few forumers off my head.

I'm proud to say I have better money management skillz than Panda Man...

But yeah, I've always thought this place was like my little e-family, albeit a little (okay, very) dysfunctional.

Mainly out of habit. It's been 7 years.

There are a few people here who I had problems with in the past, but came to the realization of "Who gives a F?"

There are always great debates here, and most of the more knowledgeable in the debates tend to keep it from getting personal, which is all the better.

And I've actually met a few members from here as well.

I believe I am on record as saying that I have learned much from the forum, and most of it not paintball-related.  This continues to be an excellent source of information on a variety of subject matters, and an excellent place to be exposed to a variety of viewpoints and experiences.

Hardly - there are plenty of folks on here far to my left.  And compared to the real world I am far, far, far from the left.

I wouldn't view "left" as an insult, just inaccurate.

If you're going to do something, do it right.

I stay here because I enjoy the discussions and feel "comfortable" (as someone else mentioned) because of the familiarity that I have with everyone's various on-line personalities.  Plus, some of the points brought up by the more liberal members allow me to understand their points of view which serves to reinforce my understanding of just how wrong they are.  Big smile

I keep coming back because despite a habit of resembling a pre-school immediately after a juice and cookie fix- this place is an undeniable resource for almost anything one would want to know about anything. Its like its own little wikipedia, 411, and kbg.

Plus the amusement- even people that I'd sincerely wish to hit with a stick after one thread will make me laugh in the next. Its sort of why I started coming here regular in the first place. I came for the paintball in the beginning. I stayed for the people.

But anyways, I mostly come back because the forum manages to bring in people with a broad spectrum of views and opinions, but yet it is still small enough where I can become familiar with most everyone and gain a sort of identity for them.

I still say you should have taken the trip and played pro. From what I've heard, your mental capacity is at its highest when you are 30. Quitting when you are 26 would have given you the chance to do just as well in school AND have the great experiences a professional athlete has.

I come on pretty much daily, make a few random comments a week, and try to stay out of the political threads, because I've noticed there are people far smarter than me (and far dumber) posting in them, and I'll leave those arguments for those who "care".

I did notice though that I'm not on the list, not that it matters all that much, I kind of like not being noticed.

But I would like to know how many times Reb Cpl has wanted to hit me with a stick.

I agree, if I were athletically gifted to a professional level, I would jump on it. I can go to school any time, and the odds are the sport I'm playing is something I'd love to do for a living, not learning how to do someones taxes for them.

Thanks for the shout out, bro. I don't play rugby anymore, unfortunately. If I wanted to play at the next level, I wouldn't have been able to go to college. I decided to take the safe route. It's actually my first week without dip. Feels good man.

I still say you should have taken the trip and played pro. From what I've heard, your mental capacity is at its highest when you are 30. Quitting when you are 26 would have given you the chance to do just as well in school AND have the great experiences a professional athlete has.

Thats bul. Im wel passed 30 an mi metal carpentry iz stil verry gud.

Haha, list updated.

Granted, quality has dropped a bit since the G7 platform emerged, but still a platform I love.  Its also a shame the first round of A1's produced had issues.  It really didn't help WDP/APS when they were already hurting against people like Dye and PE, but things are looking up with the A1 Fly.  Things can only get better if APS continues to innovate.

I like this forum. It's really the only forum I post on these days unless you count digg comments. At this point, I've been on here since I was in high school and haven't stopped yet. Why stop now? It's habitual really. I'm sure T&O is my most visited page.

Easily.

I used to like to participate in all the political arguments, but now I just like to read them unless I have something particularly important or obnoxious to say.
Used to help people in New Players, but I haven't seen anything past an A-5.... Kind of out of paintball these days, just like most everyone on here.

An impressive accomplishment indeed.   :)

And I will certainly concur that despite your irrational taste in automobiles, you seem a perfectly likeable fella.  If you have rough edges you hide them well.

I've been happy that, after almost 5 years of coming to this site under a couple names, and even though most of you don't know me. I still feel accepted. You guys were the first people I asked about Crohn's disease. And you guys were the ones I got the most support out of.

I am just happy that I can post someplace, eventhough only once or twice a year it seems this last few years. And it still feels like someone is listening.

Thanks

Not as fun last year or so because we have websense blocker at work but T&O is one of the better communities I've come across for sure.  They should forgive 1 of the banned/firewalled people once a year as chosen by us - people like 357 -  just for entertainment factor.
