Subject: A-5 vs. 98 Custom

Hello All,

I am new to the Tippmann Forums, as well as new to the Tippman Markers themselves.  Ive always used Spyder markers and they have served me will over the past couple of years, but a friend of mine had just gotten a 98-custom (platinum edition), w/ the Cycolne Feeder, and Response Trigger, and after trying it out yesterday I feel immeditily in love with it.

I would like to look into a similar setup, and looking through various websites (mainly Actionvillage and Zypherpaintball), ive come accross the A-5 and the 98 custom like my friends.

Does anyone have a suggestion on which one I should purchase?
Again I would like the same setup (cyclone feeder, and response trigger), but which ever I do purchase I would like it to be as durable as possible.

Thank you in Advance,
LawMaker

A-5 all the way man. 3 reason's to get it.......1. its got the cyclone feed system (which mean's you don't have to by a electronic hopper). 2. it's used in more in highly tense game's. 3. way better review's on durability and accuracy. now im not saying the 98 is bad....But dude in the long run you'll be glad you got an A-5.

Awesome, then he A-5 it is, and all I would need to get is the Response Trigger.

Does this seem like a good deal:
http://www.zephyrpaintball.com/product/PB-TIP-A5WRT/Tippmann_A5_Paintball_Gun_with_Response_Trigger.html

Also note, i have a coupon code for 5% off, so it would only cost $217.55

Thanks again for the help/advice,
LawMaker

One last question.

Can the A-5 get a double trigger put on?  I know my cousin has that double trigger on his 98. Is it able to be put on A-5 also?

Thanks again for the help.

Im not gonna lie. I have no clue. But you can get the "e-grip" which can make your gun completely auto, 3 paintball birst, or just semi-auto. so it's got 3 mode's in one.

I don't think the marker has any effect on the intensity of the game. 3. way better review's on durability  False, they are both Tippmanns, and equally durable. 98's are so durable in fact, that they are probaly the most widely used rental marker. and accuracy.  Again, false. A-5's and 98's have nearly identical accuracy out of the box. If you want better accuracy, look into a J&J Ceramic or Lapco barrel. now im not saying the 98 is bad....By no means is it bad. But dude in the long run you'll be glad you got an A-5.
And you may or may not be as happy with the 98
Both the A-5 and 98 are very good makers and highly upgradeable. The A-5 does come with the Cyclone so if you plan on upgrading to that anyways, yes it would make sense to go that route. Personally, I prefer the aesthetics of the A-5 over the 98, but that is very subjective. Keep in mind, that internally, they are essentially the same, so you should expect the same performance.

Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Yeah, you can get an 98 unless you wanna replace the trigger.

Not once did I say you were stupid, I simply pointed out that several of your statements were false.

This may be true, but please support it with factual statements, not baseless claims. I personally like the styling of the A-5 better myself as IMO it lends itself better to milsim. However, performance wise, it is nearly identical to the 98. Some would argue the 98 is actually more versatile since you can put an electronic hopper on it vs a cyclone. The benefit being that when you inevitably upgrade to a better marker, you can take the hopper with you. The cylcone can only be used with a Tippmann.

1/2 truth. While the entire trigger frame does not come off of the 98, it can be upgraded to a double trigger, e-grip or RT as long as you get a newer series 98Custom, Custom Pro or Platinum.

And to answer one of the other questions from the OP, yes a double trigger upgrade is available for the A-5. However, if you plan on installing an RT, some consider it easier to find the sweet spot with the RT and a single trigger vs the double. I had a double on my 98 with an RT and had no problems finding it, but everyone is different.

That's fine; however, given this fact you should avoid offering opinions/advice on topics you are unfamiliar with.

Edited Addition:  LawMaker, Oldpbnoob pretty much hit the nail on the head.  I suggest you heed his wisdom and ignore paintball ninja.

Actually, I do quite enjoy the StarWars movies, however, it has little relevance to my choice in Avatars. I simply found it humorous. Much more so than your lame attempts to insult me. If that's the best you can do, perhaps, you should crack a book every so often.

And it doesn't change the fact that you should refrain from offering advice about things with which you are unfamiliar. I don't go around giving advice on how to be a tool, perhaps you should keep away from giving advice about markers.

Please point out to me where in your reply that you stated that any of the information you provided was your opinion.  We are not asking you to refrain from giving your opinion, but please do not state things as fact when they clearly are not.  There are a lot of new users on this  forum and many cannot distinguish between fact and hype. If it is your opinion, saying something like" I really love my A-5 and chose it over the 98 because it came with the Cyclone already installed and also because it looks awesome" Vs " Yeah, the A5 is way better, it shoots more accurately, and is more durable." First statement is your opinion, and you are free to express it. The second statement is purely false and will get you corrected.

Further, when someone that has knowledge corrects you, accept it, learn from it and move on. Failing to do so and lashing out simply makes you look more foolish than offering poor advice in the first place.

That's more like it.
