THE SL-68 II IS BACK!!!1!

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/forums/paintball-news/91766-sl-68ii-back.html - Glee!

This was my very first gun ever. About 10 years ago, I was at a field in Missouri. Little 10-year-old me had just played a game and fell in love. I HAD to have a gun! I was eyeballing every marker in the store, and begging my mother for one. Obviously they were too expensive. However, the owner just got finished testing a well used and OD green spray-painted pump gun. An SL-68 II. Said he'd sell it to us for $20, and that included a hopper, barrel plug, CO2 tank and squeegee. Looking back, I KNOW he knew he could get more out of it, but I think he just wanted to get a little kid started. I think we need more people like that in paintball these days.

The price is a bit steep, but I'll be getting one, if for nothing more than a tribute to my past.

When I got the Email earlier in the week I was floored. I have regretted selling rednekk mine since I handed it over to him even if I never used it.

Price will be about $170 I think.  Saw it on MCB, but don't know where they saw it from.

Elvis, I think the trigger or something is borked on that thing, it was slam firing last time I was messing around with it. I'll have to get some paint and fill up my tanks, lube and clean the trigger mechanism and try again, but it was acting like it was auto triggering when the trigger was not depressed, the trigger job(which is otherwise great) is suspect. It may have just worn out faster. Other than that, with a red dot on it it's a mean gun. If I can get that working and they fix the TPX issues I may have to buy one and get back into the game as it would save greatly on paint costs. The CAR stock is about the slickest thing ever. Makes a good companion for my SL-68. If i can get it functioning I may need to get some 4oz tanks.

Wasn't the reason they stopped producing them in the first place was because the die broke?  I have no idea what it costs to manufacture a new die, but that cost coupled with the fact that demand won't necessarily be high for a simple, late 80's designed pump makes me think the price is about right.  It'll drop soon enough.  It will be interesting to see if it outsells the C3...

Nekk that's the trigger Job. It was done by Picasso and I used to Keep up with the Semi's by Slam-firing. But if you pump normal it wont go off ... sometimes.

My TPX works just fine, your welcome to shoot mine and see for yourself how it handles business.

I had to put my reloader on it to keep it from chopping paint, I'd say it's fast enough, I just wish it didn't fire when i close the bolt wit my finger off the trigger 40% of the time. First time it did that was when i had a barrel condom on. I may need to take you up on trying the TPX out, I've handled them a bit and they seem awesome.

I asked Ron if it shouldnt be called the SL68-III instead, ah well. I miss mine as well, I forget who I sold it to anyway. I painted the thing white, and damn it looked awesome.

Which would be a mistake if you ask me. There are far more barrels out there threaded for the Pro-series/A5 line than almost anything else other than 'Cocker threads. Almost every company out there makes an A-5 barrel but almost no-one makes SL slip-fit barrels anymore. I can see where you'd believe it to be slip-fit with the bolt at the bottom under the pump-rod like the old slip-fit grub screw, but you should remember that the pro-series Tippmanns also used a similar grub-screw to keep the barrel from working loose through the action of the marker.

I'll be interested to see what they went with.

I love my SL-68II. I got mine years ago, just before the die broke and they stopped making them. Ever since the first time I used it on the field I was in love with that gun. It has some drawbacks which I think they should have addressed but I'm still glad it's back. It's a great gun and hopefully I'll have the money to put some paint through it next summer (maybe even spring). Played a game of speedball on my first day with that gun and it was one of the most intense games ever.

This is cool.

It will be interesting to see how the barrel is threaded.  (I'm hoping for slip-fit because the J&J I have on my current SLII would work on a new one then . . . and I'd get to use a better hopper than the ammo box I'm using now.)

TippmannEmployee1 (a verified Tippy employee on the MCB forums) says they will be made in America with all the same parts as the original SL's! So what does this mean? New parts for your old SL's, and most likely slip-fit barrels! Yay! This will also mean other companies will start making slip-fits again! If all else fails, just have a threaded barrel turned down or something. :P

The last time I checked, there were still some slip-fit J&Js to be had if you looked around a bit.

The place you told me about still shows them on their website.....  I never ended up getting one since I have YET to even run paint through mine.  Still thinking about trying to mod it to use with the First Strike rounds. Keep forgetting to pick some up.

I have machined quite a few barrels to fit the SL. Mine is a stainless J&J
that was originally a Procarb barrel.

Really, other than Enos mentioning he spoke to Ron, I assume he meant Ron Goldblatt, all I've seen is a
poster. I think it's a great idea to bring a pump into the Tippmann lineup, but I highly doubt it would be the SL68. I love mine, but I still call shens.

I hope I'm wrong, even if it's a hoax, it certainly shows the demand for a Tippy pump is there.

Seriously though, keep that crap out of this thread. I do not want another debate, and I'm certain the mods are on my side.

As for the pre-order, I can vouch for Titus. I've bought some things from him before, and he handled the TPX pre-order (as much of a Tippmann-caused fiasco as that was) on that site. Actually, he handled the pre-order very well. Kept us all informed. I still held off on getting one though...
