Placing increased tarriffs on imported chinese made tires when the domestic tire manufacturing can not manufacture tires at a rate to replace the supply vs demand equation just means the consumer now will end up paying more for domestic as well imported tires. I have driven through Akron and see the empty parking lot at the tire plants mid week.

Will this new series of tariff increases help or hunder domestic tire manufacture, and our domestic economy, or just switch the primary importer to Mexico?

I still do not see any gain, ever since domestic auto plants switched to mexican and canadian plants and the lower import tariff than the Japanese and Koreans pay for thier imports. Why are the prices of Mex and CDN manufactured cars still based on the Detroit union labor rate?
$20.00+per hr, Union Rate vs .50 per hr Mex rate, and GM still can not make a profit on the excess.

China must of pee'd in Obama's cornflakes for this decesion, wonder what the exact motive is? Union pressure? Sure is not lowering the price to consumer.

Without knowing the specifics of the bill, gererally speaking, I think we all agree that tariffs are bad economically

No...it will not create more jobs, domestic early 20th century manufacturing plants vs newer mexican facilities by the major US manufacturers. Guess who gets the more jobs? And which country and persons gets more money, my money is Mexico and the major manufacturers big wigs.

Lower Taxes in a democratic administration that relies on the dependant class voter to stay in power.....riiiigggghhhht (see ACORN). If anything they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and raise taxes on industry and the actual middle class worker to support all the new proposed programs for the "poor" and pay on thier deficet.

i like how you make assumptions about everyone living off of there parents. i've always had to pay for everything i needed or wanted. yea tires are expensive. always have been. you sitting on here complaining about price raises aren't going to make the tires go down one cent. so stop crying about it. im sure alot of people on here are tired of you always finding something to complain about

Hope and Change...........explain that little catch phrase. Hope is waning, and change too dramatic. The whole of America is not the right and left coasts, the core of the country is a little more resistant to these changes than the administration originally hoped. My guess is they put "flyover" country into the what can they do bad to us files, and now it is reality 101.

You telling him to stop crying about it isn't going to change anything either.

I find it odd that you all complain about OS's posts here in T&O, when this is exactly what this section is for.  I'm sure anyone who is a reg of this forum knows by now that most of OS's threads are similar to this, so why bother coming in and **edited**ing about it?

Lawl.

Maybe that would work if it were for only a few threads here and there, or just in the beginning.  But posting LOLUMAD, or telling him to CRYMOAR in EVERY thread is a little out of hand, no?

Better yet, it creates jobs here that people actually want to do.

Furthermore, does anyone else think that the obama administration dropped the ball when they assumed Americans would be smart enough not to make the czar-soviet connection in the name?

Probably would have been a better investment to start a "free tin foil hat day" or something...

I don't think you need the middle part.  Tariffs always result in higher prices for consumers, both on domestic and imported products, regardless of the manufacturing capabilities of the domestic suppliers.

I don't know a lot about this particular tire tariff, but my starting point on all import tariffs is that I oppose.  There are some tariffs that serve a decent purpose, but overall they are just a sop to a particular segment of the economy - domestic tire manufacturers, in this case.  Tariffs do not increase the GNP, they just reallocate the wealth, and they are generally a bad idea.

Quote wonder what the exact motive is? Union pressure? Sure is not lowering the price to consumer.

Some people do think that tariffs will benefit the consumer, but I think Obama is too well-educated to be one of them.  I suspect it is simple wealth reallocation.

I always thought it started with the Russian royalty back in the 16th century, but then I looked it up and found out that the Bulgarians used the term way before the Russians.

Truthfully, I would rather have my tires manufactured in Mexico than China any day. Granted, I would rather seem them manufactured in the U.S. ,but understand that no one wants to pay the price to do so. We are in a culture of "more for cheaper is better".  Be it tires, cars, MP3 players, shoes, clothes, food,... you name it. It amazes me of all the people that line up to go eat at Golden Corral, while the parking lots of restaurants with good food sit near empty around here. I went shopping with my daughter yesterday to find some shoes and every single pair I picked up were made in China. I also noticed something else, a pair of hightop Vans cost about the same if not less than they did 25 years ago. I have payed about the same for tires as I did 10-15 years ago as well. And to a certain degree, I am as guilty as anyone. While I won't eat at the HogTrough (Golden Corral), I will buy $120 Cooper tires vs. $250 Goodyears all day long. And I did almost pick me up a pair of low top lace ups yesterday... until my duaghter told me I was too old.
