I have owned a total of 3 model 98s over the years all were brought NIB. My first one had paint missing at the barrel threads(brought in 99). The second one was a silver 98 that had bubbles in the paint(brought 03-04?). This week I decided to buy a new 98, and today I received my newest one. It was a nice black one but has minor scratches on it and paint was chipped all over the sight rail. It looks horrible. Needless to say its going back Monday.
Do all 98s have a terrible finish/quality control, or did I just keep getting bad ones(brought years apart)???? I never had this type of problem with any of my other guns

The first two are sad, but the last one, was probably after factory shipping... Where did you buy them? It might have been the store... Dicks Sporting Goods they have gun on display that a lot of people poke at... But I bought 3 guns and had no problems.... sry about the issues your having Hope it clears up soon. Smile

I brought all 3 from different online stores. 3 diffrent stores, all years apart, and they all had issues. Anyhow Im hoping the finish on the next one will be flawless.

The new 98's have that powdercoat rough finish which doesnt scratch.

My only NIB 98(my first marker) was bought in 05, which was still painted. A piece of the serial number paint flaked off(the circle of a 9, so I can understand) when I pulled it out of the box. Other than that, the paint is near mint today, execpt by the feedneck.

Thats good to know, the replacment should be good then. I guess mine was realy trashed during shipping...or in storage.

Sounds like youre just unlucky. But like others said, the powdercoat on the 98 and a5 nowdays is unbelievably tough.
