Guess not all Christians are in it for the presents.

Saying Christmas is a Christian holiday is stupid.
The commercialization is stupid, and Jesus was born in the spring most likely.
I know many Christians who give donations to charity instead of giving presents to each other, and the amount of money received by charities and churches goes up at this time of year for more reasons than taxes.

Simply put. Just because a large proportion of people celebrating the holiday aren't practicing Christians, doesn't make it any less of a Christian holiday.
While I am not well versed on it, I have seen something that mentioned Jesus was most likely born in Spring or early Summer. The date was changed to make it replace the Pagan Sun Festival or something. Neither of these changes the fact that Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus. Just because the way it is celebrated has been distorted by consumerism over the past several decades doesn't change the intent of the holiday.
If you read the article, you will see that it is advocating just what you suggested.

1) Most people who celebrate Christmas are not Christian, or at least not practicing 2) Christmas today has no Biblical connections or significance. Christmas trees are German, for that matter.
Explain again how giving presents to each other to celebrate the birth of Jesus is Biblical?
Again, not a Christian holiday -- it's a consumer holiday.

| You can keep saying it, but it doesn't make it true.
A lot of people get Good Friday off as well that aren't Christians. Does that make it a non-Christian Holiday as well?
Just because people that choose to take part in celebrating the holiday may not be Christian, does not change the reason for the holiday. I have attended my father-in-laws church for about 7 years now, and I can tell you that there are indeed many people that celebrate the holiday for what it is. And for the record, I am not a Christian.
Germans aren't Christians? I thought Tallen mentioned the Christmas tree origins came from the symbolization of everlasting life? Simply put, the christmas tree represented Jesus? I don't know much about this actually, but I will say that my cousins used to have a Hannukah Bush. I guess Hannukah isn't a Jewish holiday anymore than either?
I beleive the Christian story is that the wise men brought Jesus presents. The exchanging of gifts originated from the same symbolism. I don't however have a strong belief in this practice. While we do exchange presents a big emphasis is not put on it. We also don't do much in the way of gifts for birthdays either.

No one is saying Christmas isn't a christian holiday. Well Pariel is, I just don't think it is what intended.
Christmas is just far more than a Christian holiday now, and for the most part has lost its meaning to most people who "celebrate".
The Christian religion could disappear tomorrow like we just got flashed my the Men In Black but Christmas would continue.

Thank you.
If you really didn't know that was what I meant oldpbnoob, there's nothing I can do to explain it to you.
the vast majority of Christmas celebrators in this country do not celebrate because of a belief that Jesus Christ is the savior of mankind.

Meh, I change this statement. I am glad christians are following what their holiday is actually meant for. I don't care if you celebrate a religious holiday, It just annoys me when you celebrate a commercialist holiday, and then get cranky when people try and take Jesus out of it. So as long as it is not being shoved onto others, good for them.

Exactly what is it like to feel superior to others and be utterly and completely wrong Pariell?

I heard that Jesus was born on December 25th. The Bible backs up this claim.

I would hesitate to call it fact, yes. But based on the people I know, who I think represent a reasonable measure of at least middle class America, there are very few people who celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday. When I can say that as a regular church attender, I feel like it's a reasonable statement.

I can accept that. Normally, I'd be prickish enough to demand citations. The cynical side of me agrees with you. It isn't a totally unreasonable point of view.

Christians get freedom of speech too. We get the freedom to walk away from them.
Not a difficult concept.
Just let people celebrate the holiday in the way that they best see fit, for themselves.

Support for a singular religion is stupid, and the fact that a senator is suggesting it is shameful.
There's more than enough tolerance for Christmas, I really don't see what he's all hot and bothered about.

| Very much agreed. I don't think they should get special treatment in any way shape or form. I also don't think people should complain when they choose to, personally celebrate in what way they see fit.
