I recently played at a reball course and the cyclone feed on the A-5 didn't respond well with the reballs.  The reballs would constantly jam causing numerous misfires.  I have a cyclone feed, but I have replaced the stock paddles with squishy paddles.  Has anyone discovered any modifications I can make on my A-5 that would allow the cyclone to flow more efficiently with reballs?

Reballs don't work with the cyclone. They also don't work with any hopper that has a curved feedneck. (This includes the offset feedneck on the 98)

My advice. Buy a gun with a straight feedneck and a hopper that sits in the middle. (not swept back)
An example would be a Halo hopper on a Spyder, Smart Parts, Azodin, etc.

Reballs are bad news. Especially the rubber ones but the foam ones are bad too.

So Buhj, your saying you haven't discovered any mods that help?

Snowman, if you have a spare Cyclone return spring, you can clip 1/4 inch off one end.
It will help a lot with jams. Hard paddles are better also. I'm trying the Phenom with reballs
this Saturday to see if it is any better than the stock A-5 with them.

As a matter of fact I was. The paddle forces the reball against the drum. Reballs have a lot more grip than normal paintballs. This is what causes reballs to not work. There is no remedy other than a different hopper and due to the fact that this is not easily achieved with the A5, I recommended a straight-feed gun with a straight-feed hopper.

The problem isn't the cyclone itself, but rather the fact that the balls must go around the drum. Reballs work perfectly when they don't have to move around something. They are best when they go straight down and straight out.

I have shot reballs many times. I have/had an X7. They don't go through the cyclone. I have a Pinokio. They don't go through the Pinokio because of the swept-back design. It feeds them but they get stuck in the feedneck. I bought an Empire Reloader B specifically for reball play. (For those who don't know, a reloader B is extremely similar to a Halo B) The Reloader B jams sometimes but not anywhere near as often as other loaders but when it does, I have the rip drive. The only hopper that reballs go though effectively is the Viewloader VL200. (stock hopper) This is because no tension is put on the ball stack whatsoever. I cannot use these in my Tiberius 8 pistol or my friends ACP either because the mags are spring fed.

I used rubber reballs for these tests. I have only used foam reballs once.

Thanks for the responses.  Playing reball was probably a one time occurance...especially since it's been too dang cold to play paintball outside.

Do you know what works good for reballs and winter play. PUMP. You can get an Autococker Trilogy with a pump kit for like $100. If you are up to the challenge of playing pump that is.

Ah, what about pre-lubing them in a ziploc bag with gun oil, ala shake & bake?

then you are left with the cleanup and it would still have a good amount of friction due to the way the cyclone pushes the balls around.  while it may not be that big of a deal cleaning all of the oil out of the cyclone may be a bit of a pain afterwards too.

So, are they worth getting just for indoor fun? I was thinking of getting the glow in the dark ones Star
