Tire pressure management system, a $72 piece of equipment in your tire stem. 2010 Automobile almost swallowed by a Lincoln, NE pothole, tire sidewall torn. Can get tire readily enough but the TPMS sensor is unavailable, and running without for an extended period of time can damage the whole electronic system of the vehicle. According to AAA, the number of pothole damaged vehicles in Lincoln is already at a record high, and the State/County/City are claiming they have no funds to repair roads, and only in December these same bodies were pleased with the excess funds available. Mayor(D) is now preaching to raise the 'wheel tax' 4X to fund road repair. The people are asking where did the 'excess' funds go? And only a resounding silence from the City/County/State.

Excess DOT funds don't rollover(pardon the pun) to the next year. That's why you often see so much useless "patching" done in the later months; so a states DOT funds won't be cut the following year

about ten years ago a group around me was fighting potholes by fixing them themselves. Interesting IMO.

TPMS is a nice feature but I hate it. I do NOT want it on any vehicle I own. It seems like they break more often then they should, and seems like most tire shop workers do not know how to work with them.

Really doubt this. Having driven hundreds of cars, I'd be half of all vehicles with TPMS have that light on due to new/aftermarket wheels, replacement tires without replacing sensors, not resetting system when reinflating tires, etc.

I like my monitoring system. It calculates if a tire is rotating at a different speed due to a flat. It works really well. It noticed a flat just occurred and the tire still looked like it was perfect. The newer models of my car are given the TPMS sensor.
I've never heard of not having a sensor messing up the electronic system. I know a lot of people with the sensors not running the sensors because they bought new rims and never had them transferred. Most people just put a little piece of electrical tape over the flat tire light.

Our CTS-V has had two of the sensors replaced so far...

It's very hard to get the air pressure perfect on all four tires. And with run-flats, I don't really see the point, except something else to break.

i had those in my jeep tires for a while until my sister thought she was helping by getting my wheels changes with another jeep whose wheels didn't have it.

i've been driving around without it for a while now, and the rest of my electronics systems are working fine

Our van had that, and it was never right as drastic temperature changes would throw the whole deal off. We completely ignored it almost immediately.

Your tire pressure changes with temperature...

i replaced hundreds of tires at avis and the only time i had to replace a sensor was when some DA broke them off when trying to install the tire...

after mounting a tire we just reset the system and good to go...

Well considering the rules of the world we live in, I'd certainly hope so. Do you have somehow magical tires that are unaffected by weather? Even if it's a small change, it could screw with the censor, at least I'm sure thats what it was with ours.

My mothers car has it and will constantly say there is low tire pressure.
