Didn't play through the first one. I'll play both eventually, perhaps even in the near future, but I'm not a huge fan of buying brand new games. I have my old favorites, which are good for now.

Don't count on Diablo 3 anytime soon.
That's a game I probably will buy when it comes out.

Other than that I'm looking forward to Starcraft 2 and WoW: Cataclysm whenever that comes out.

mass effect 1 is probably in my top 5 all time games, i love love love it. Its universe really just struck the right chord with me. Some of the changes im not to excited about in the game, like I heard they made the combat for of a FPS type, but oh well, im sure its still great.

So far I've found 1 problem with ME2
The problem I have is that due to the huge popularity of the game, I can't find ANYONE to party up with in MW2. What this means is that I'm thrown in on a team of complete morons who want to ignore the whole objective of Domination rounds and play like it's TDM. Furthermore, there are no adults around to temper the little 12 year olds. The incessant yakking in game by a pair of them today made me finally go off. I told them to shut their blankety-blank mouths and play the blankety-blank game or get their blankety-blank-blank-blanks out of the server.
Funny enough, I got some cheers from my team-mates over that one.

God, I need to take a break, on game constant, and unbelievably haven't died yet. Personal upgrades and ship upgrades, I am drifting off storyline a little and finding more 'perks'. Keeping a well rounded squad, not the physco and the bull, just a well balanced fighting force.

Tallen, how do I not have you on live? I've been playing MW2 a bunch lately, and resorting to similar tactics. You do know you can mute players though right? Hit the back button on the controller, then use the d-pad to go up and down the list, hit A to mute.

If you jump straight in to fighting the Collectors, you'll die every time. If you upgrade everything and get the whole crew, you'll have a chance to have everyone survive the last part.

Alternatively, you could not care who's dead at the end of the story.
That's how I played Dragon Age. It worked well.

I get annoyed when the end of the story is changed by what you do.
I could see it working in Mass Effect and quite enjoyed it. I loved being the good guy who just shoots baddies in the face.
However in Dragons Age, things started spronging up when I wasn't ready for them. Boo Hoo I'm your bastard sister, give me elebenty millions gold! Uh, I only have 2, sorry.
Lets see what ME2 holds.

Except for the fact that it effects the story of ME3 when it comes out, so I'll do atleast one playthrough where everyone survives. :)

For those of you into realistic wargaming, the British MoD is distributing their version of Virtual Battlespace 2 as freeware (called "VBS2 Lite"). I have a link to a torrent (again, it's freeware -- the torrent is totally legal), as well as the thread it was posted in on the Project Reality website.
PM me if you're interested and I'll drop you a link to the thread.

Wow. Just played 10ish minutes of this. Fan freaking tastic! Can't wait to get to grips with it. But I'm getting married in 18 hours 17 minutes, still have speech to write.
TL:DR Game kicks butt. Thanks for wedding wishes all.

My old roommate had Mass Effect 1 which seemed pretty cool, but I cant shake my opinion that its....too big... for me to play and enjoy. I know that's kind of backwards, but I'm not big on rpg's and such and a game of that scale just wound up seeming tedious just because of the sheer amount of things you can do.
Convince me otherwise? I generally love sandbox games, so..

It's a pretty casual RPG, nothing like KOTOR or Dragon Age. I beat the first in around 18-20 hours if I remember correctly, half the time of more extreme RPGs.
And even in regular RPGs generally you can take the option of letting the computer do the complicated stuff, i.e. auto leveling and so on.

Choop, ME2 is more of story driven action game. If I remember correctly, you are a fan of 24, correct? This is 24 in the galaxy with quite a few twist in the story. I was blown away by several of the events that have happened so far in the sequel and I'm 25 hours in to it.
On top of that, your choices have major consequences in the future of not only the current game, but the entire trilogy. You can choose to save a random civilian from a bully in the first game, and in the second game they end up saving your ass. And that's what I love about the game... moral decisions. Do you put the mission firs, or do you save the hapless person?

I have actually never watched even 10 seconds of 24. And is this real moral decision making...or video game morals. Most of the time "choosing a path" in a video game means you get a different 1 of...maybe 4 outcomes.

I know Dragon Age had essentially 4-6 outcomes, with maybe 40 different subplot outcomes, depending how you courted other characters in your party and decisions you made leading up to the end of the game.
I'm sure ME2 has at least that many options.
And yes, it's still video game "morals". At least in Dragon Age, the difficulty of moral choice was something along the lines of "dabble in 'evil' magic and get this cool ring, or don't...and nothing bad happens...". I'd love to play a game that actually presented difficult moral situations that affected future game play.
