Hey fellow paintballers :). Just recently I've been thinking about getting into paintball a bit. At least enough to go to recreational places here where I live. I have been paintballing once, but I was like 13 or 14 in Jr. High School.
Now that i'm more older and mature and can actually buy a paintball marker I would like to know what I should look at for a beginner to this sport.
And Tippmann is a brand I know I can trust.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you're into tippmanns, try one. If you want the milsim look, get an Alpha Black/Salvo or an X7/Phenom. If you want a more basic looking one, then the 98/A5 would be more your thing. They are all fairly similar (besides phenom).

Paintballer sounds to ghetto.
Use the term "Splatballer" Or "New Player"
Lets put it like this.
If your into milsim(Military simulation) Paintball, Then tippmanns are the way to go.
If your into woodsball. Tippmanns are the way to go.
If your into speedball/ Xball. Smart Parts Shocker FTW.
IF YOUR INTO MILSIM TO THE MAX. Then RAP4 or MILSIG is the way to go.

ACTUALLY.
Rap4 has improved thier T68 Milsim guns very well. The genX is supposably flawless. Due for 2012. The t68 gen 6 Was the final model to work out the bugs. The only downside on the Gen 6 is that it doesnt hold up to full auto to well. Plus the body isnt fully milsim.. yet, thats due for Gen X.
They are fixing to release the t68 m249 saw kit for the t68 gen 6, and after 2012 thier company will be releasing a wide range of accessorys.
Overall, Rap4's are a bit overpriced. But they are anything from crap. Just need to know how to maintnence them.
Besides. THIER DAMN COOLD GUNS!

This would indicate there was a definite need for improvement.
The genX is supposably flawless.
Supposedly? So you're not sure about this?
Due for 2012.
If it's not out yet, how do we know it's flawless?
The t68 gen 6 Was the final model to work out the bugs.
They probably thought that about the previous generations as well.
The only downside on the Gen 6 is that it doesnt hold up to full auto to well.
Hardly sounds flawless.
Plus the body isnt fully milsim.. yet, thats due for Gen X.
Oddly enough, I've always been impressed with the looks of their markers.
They are fixing to release the t68 m249 saw kit for the t68 gen 6, and after 2012 thier company will be releasing a wide range of accessorys.
And, given their track record for quality and customer support, I don't care how good it makes their markers look.
Overall, Rap4's are a bit overpriced. But they are anything from crap. Just need to know how to maintnence them.
Actually, while I know how to maintain markers, I prefer ones that don't require constant maintenance.
Besides. THIER DAMN COOLD GUNS! |

As far as marker's go, I ended up getting a Spyder Sonix Pro off of craigslist for now.. Maybe an A5 later..
and to answer the other guy's question, no I haven't played speedball, so I'm not that into it.

Lord-Catboy, you're starting to worry me. Do you have any clue about anything before you say it? "Splatballer?" cRap4 good? You're going to lead new players in a terrible direction...

| To clarify, there is nothing wrong with using the term Paintballer. I would laugh uncontrollably at any dork that used the term Splatballer in my presence. He would definitley be a target for the rest of the day.

didn't Hasbro make something called a "splatmaster" back in the 90's? It used paint filled rubber pellets? Splatballer??? Sounds like a term used in porn.

Actually, the Splatmaster was made by NSG (National Survival Games). It was the first paintball gun produced specifically for the sport of paintball, and it was a decent gun. I think you're thinking of something else.

Fail. Splatball IS the origionall term for paintball.
Heres the difference,
A paintball is what you fire out of the gun.
Splatball is a term used to define the sport in general.
Other words. Paintball is the ghettonized version of Splatball.
Also, Rap4 has improved greatly. Im not saying thier tippmann quality. But thier decent enough.
A little more quality then spyder in my opinion.

If you havent played speedball *Sence no one has answered this for you*
Get a tippmann.
Tippmanns wont lead you wrong, Especially if your new.
Just don't go tampering with the internals. You'll end up loosing something(Happened to me)

| I have never heard anyone use the term Splatball. Ever. I have played on and off since the mid 90's. Perhaps it's a regional term that the Noobs in NC use.
And suggesting that someone not "tamper with their internals " is ludicrous. Anyone that intends to play on a regular basis, should as mentioned above learn how to service their own markers. If you are incapable of simply taking apart and cleaning your marker, you should put it back in the box, take it to the store, get your money back and go buy a hula hoop or some thing else less complicated.

The original creators of paintball, Hayes Noel and Charles Gaines called the game we now refer to as paintball" "survival." When it was first commercially marketed it was officially called the "National Survival Game."
(Above information is from The Complete Guide to Paintball, pages 6-8, published in 2004 by Hatherleigh Press out of NY.)
I should also point out that the reference listed does not mention the term "splatball" anyplace in it.
Feel free to return to the conversation when you actually know what you're talking about.
Heres the difference,

Uh no . . . you're actually the first person I've seen/heard use the term "splatball" in 25* years of playing.
An internet search reveals the term splatball is used as a marketing tool by certain fields, both as part of their field/store names and for scenarios they host
Other words. Paintball is the ghettonized version of Splatball.
Uh . . . Fail. "Splatball is a marketing term used by fields that are afraid of the connotations related to the term "paintball."**This is what comes up when I search for splatball products: That doesn't look anything like paintball to me but if you're happy playing that feel free to continue, just try a little harder not to get the games confused when offering advice/information to new folks on here.
Also, Rap4 has improved greatly. Im not saying thier tippmann quality.
So why recommend a marker line you admit is substandard?
But thier decent enough.
A little more quality then spyder in my opinion.
While not a Spyder fan, I have to give spyder the edge in quality here.
As a final note when you are making entries and you see the dotted red underline under words, that's the spell-checker letting you know something is spelled wrong.

^^^This. I was going to suggest he take up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NERF_wars - nerfwars but then I realized that some of the folks mod the heck out of their Nerf equipment so a certain level of mechanical skill is required to remain competitive in that endeavor as well.
*I had to stop and think about when I first started playing; OMG I'm old. **Not dogging on those fields, they have to do what sells in their markets.

Read the manual, set up someplace where it's hard to lose parts (I prefer a white towel on the table in a room with a non-carpeted floor) and separate the body parts slowly and you probably won't have any problems.

What Mack said. Where did you even gather that piece of information? Also, I'd take a Spyder over a cRap4 ANY day.
