So I don't have the most spectacular driving record ever. Well, to be honest, it's pretty poor at best. When I  first started driving, like most teens, I saw speed limits as more of "guidelines" or "rough estimates," which is a bad plan. So, quite a few speeding tickets, and several hundred dollars later, I'd pretty well learned my lesson, and I haven't received a speeding ticket, or been pulled over for any reason in a year. (Hey, it's improvement for me.)

Well I got a letter yesterday from my insurance company that I've been dropped because my license is suspended. See, this raised a big red flag because I renewed my license last year AFTER the last ticket I had received without any problems or any mentioning of suspension or anything of the sort. Well after talking to a few people, (getting a ride to the DMV here shortly) apparently my license has been suspended since last May, about 10 days after I renewed it. While I'm not overly upset about this, because I understand it was my own actions that caused this, but it does raise a concern, soley from the fact that they never told me or sent me a letter or anything that it was suspended. I've been driving around since last May, and had I been pulled over for something as simple as a headlight being out (which almost did happen about 2 weeks ago) I would've been hauled off. So other than to keep you all updated, and give you a few lulz at my misfortune, I guess my real question/point of this thread is, can they suspend your license without giving you any form of notice? And If so, should they be able to do that? Like I said, I'm not mad that it's suspended, I brought that upon myself, but I would have liked to have known about it. Confused

sounds like a points suspension. when I was at court for my traffic light ticket there were about 5 guys there for suspended liscense, and the judge renewed each one, after he had them prove insurance/ or whatever  they needed and promise to behave.

So, are you saying that only lawyers should be allowed to participate in the governance of this nation and the opinions of any non-lawyer are immaterial?

They're supposed to notify you, but the way the DMV operates, it's no surprise that you didn't get a letter. I had mine suspended for failure to pay a ticket that I never actually got. There was a mix-up in the VA DMV records section that assigned the same out-of-state user number to my MD license (when I lived in MD) and another license from MD. That person never paid the fine and my license was suspended. Now, flash forward 3 effing years. I've had my VA license for 2 of those years and no letters, no nothing, ever. One day I get pulled over for an expired tag sticker (it was 2 days out of date) and the officer asks me if I know that my license is suspended. I say "no, I did not." He says "Do you remember getting a traffic violation ticket back on x day in x year?" I say, "I've never had a ticket in this state." So, he writes me up for driving on a suspended license without notice which basically lets the judge know that the DMV screwed the pooch somewhere down the line. I then spent a whole afternoon in the clerk's office and the DMV getting it all straightened out.

So, while they didn't notify you, there's nothing you can do that can make it alright because of their oversight. It only works in your favor if you were pulled over for driving on suspended without notice.

Actually, when I got there and talked to the DMV lady, she informed me that they don't notify you if they suspend it. Her words were something to the effect of, "No, they don't notify you, the only time they will give you a notification is if you get pulled over after it was suspended - which is bad." Must be some stupid missouri thing.

Not limited to Missouri. A friend of mine had his license suspended and was never notified until he got pulled over.

EDIT: This is in NJ, by the way.

Report something if you feel like wrong has been done, but bragging about it sounds like the dumbest thing since socialized healthcare.

You mean the sig Enos made for me? The one with the old forum joke that you're too new to understand? No, it wasn't a personal attack and you didn't see me cry about it in 4 threads at once about how I wasn't treated fairly either. Hell I don't think you've been around long enough to see my awesome strikes of the past.

Nobody likes wannabe mods, no matter what sex/race/political impediment. Just go post your mod sanctioned spam and stop reporting post after post. I'm tired of hearing about how much you annoy the mod staff.
