... that so many people in the world today don't understand how guns work.

Seriously. You should read the thread over on FARK about the wikileaks video of the two journalists who were killed when they were hanging out with a bunch of armed insurgents. It's as if people don't understand that a helicopter mounted canon can't be used as a sniper rifle. The number of times someone posted "Well, why didn't they only shoot the guys who had the weapons then?" was astounding. Does the general public really think that war is exactly like CoD? I almost think we should got to forced conscription simply so that people understand how weapons work these days. If anything, the whole debate and various misconceptions about weapons of war reinforces the concept that open rebellion within the US would lead to more dead civies than you could possibly count.

Some people just are not into guns.

i agree with tallen...early on when they round the building, someone points something from just around the corner up at the helicopter...hard to tell what it was from the video but if i was the pilot i would have done the same thing.

i'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

Not to mention we wouldn't send these people into a war to fight on our side.

Tallen, this is the internet, what were you expecting? I suspect some of these people may be trolls.

Even comparing it to COD it's hard to hit just one guy, just one time. If not impossible.

Also I know nothing about guns pretty much. I do laugh when I see a show "cock" an M16 like a shotgun to load it though.

And then they only do it once, as if that is enough to make the bullet fly fast or far.

Or when they call a M16 a high powered weapon, or call mags "clips".

OK, legitimately, I've heard ex-military guys call mags clips.

Then I made fun of them for it.  They laughed.

I haven't figured out how to not Blue-on-Blue with my tactical nuke, and Obama keeps complaining about how it's his job to decide when to use nukes.

I'm just saying, I totally earned that thing.

It would be like me talking about photography dork stuff on here using all kinds of photography jargon. Some people and places are just more likely to know more about stuff than others.

Yes, but even someone not familiar with cameras wouldn't expect to be able to make national geographic type shots with a disposable camera from walmart now would they?

Weapons just seem to be some sort of taboo when it comes to the general public having at least a basic knowledge of them.

You'd be surprised how many people wonder why their point-n'-shoots don't take very good concert photos in low lighting with hot back-lighting and fast motion.

Most people will just assume that it's something wrong with the camera. When it sort of is.

Same thing as people not understanding why the military guys in that video couldn't just pick off someone from a helicopter.

I've seen that done with an M203 on an M16/M4 in the movies; I've never seen it done with just the M16.

I was watching some C-Movie on ScyFi a while back and they kept recocking the M203 to fire but they never loaded it.  (Single shot breech-loaded weapon.  Moving the barrel forward opens it for loading/removing spent casing.)

For a real laugh their was a scene in a Chuck Norris movie years ago (Invasion USA I believe) where the terrorist was blowing up a neighborhood with a LAW.  Although they are single use weapons I remember that this guy would close and re-extend the tube so he could fire another shot.  (I think he got four off all together.)

I remember when video games showed you pulling a lever on the side of an M-16 ala AK-47's.

Nope, just stupid. I don't know much about weapons but even I know that the weapons used in that video aren't meant for precision. Besides, just the fact that it's on a helicopter should be enough for anybody with common sense to understand that precision is difficult when moving.

Regarding Tallen's comment about requiring people to serve, I think we should do that. There's such a lack of understanding regarding war that it needs to happen. Besides, looking at the people around me every day, I think natural selection has been slacking and could use a little assistance.
