I just got my first Tippmann 98 custom platinum series gun. I took it apart completely the first day I had it and everything ran smoothly. I took it apart a second time and now the two halves will not fit together. I even took out all the internals to see if it would fit together and its still not fitting flush. I have no idea what the problem is and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This is normally due to a pin issue.  (As in the pins that hold the internals in place.  (Sometimes they just need to be firmly seated in the little holes.)

On the older 98s, the pin that held the front sight in place was shorter than the others and the holes were less deep.  It that is still the case, you want to make sure you have the right pin at this location.  (If this is the issue, the front will be where the problem is.)

Edited addition:  Also suggest you read through the stickies as this (and other useful information) is included in some of them.

Well Im going to keep working on it. Thank you for the advice. and by the I have the new 98 custom platinum series and it is the back of the gun thats the problem. And I do love this gun! It beats a 20 dollar wal-mart pump action!

your front site pin is different from the other silver pins, and the black goes in the sear. the safety usually holds me up in putting mine together. i found that if i put the safety button into the left half of the marker so the red ring is popping out then put the 2 half's together it goes together easier_popupControl();

well just as a follow up I did get the gun back together again. I pulled the rear bolt back all the way and that did the trick. I did run into one more problem though. There are two small pins that sit on both sides of the linkage arm and one of them fell out completely. I left it out of the gun because every time I tried putting the gun together with it, it would fall out into the bottom half. I don't really want a small pin inside my gun scraping against everything. Is this a big problem, and if so how do I fix the pin?                                                  P.S. o2x4, The safety did give me a little trouble but I went about it the way you did and it seemed to work good.

those 2 little pins have to be in there, they guide the linkage arm. they especially have to be in there with an act system. if you leave the right half of the marker laying flat on the table with all the parts but the safety in it.  you should be able to set the left half onto it without picking the right half up and spilling the components.
putting these markers together is a pain but worth the effort in the end.

well now I have good news and bad. I got the pin back in. theres the good news. the bad news is the bolt will not go back into position when fired. I can cock the gun manually and it shoots but the rear bolt jumps up and down before going back into the original position. Also the paint balls seem to have very low speed when this happens even though the air tank has just been refilled. any advice?
