My old (read: ancient) hard drive with XP finally crashed, so rather than upgrade to Vista or 7, I went with Mint (linux). I'm absolutely loving it so far, but I know I'm missing out on some secrets and shortcuts that I should know. In my little tinkering with it, the best thing I've found for tips on linux have been Internet resources. If your looking for real basic info PC world did a step by step guide for linux a while back, other than that theres many forums about it.

If you get a total freeze, which is rare, cntrl+alt+backspace restarts x11 and your user interface.
It's like a mini reboot. -------------
