I watched the game yesterday and loved it.
I love international competitions, I get really in to the sport even if I would never watch it otherwise, just to see the US win. Back in the Olympics, I watched curling...

Maybe some qualification there, as Soccer is the worlds most played and watched sport.
The 2010 SWC is supposed to have a cumulative audience of of 30 BILLION by the final.
I don't think that many pople have watched many other sports cumulatively since the beginning of time.
Oh and yes I'm watching them :P

How annoying are those horn things?
I dislike soccer, and I am still happy that Philthadelphia lost the stanley cup.
In the words of Steven Colbert, "Soccer is the most popular sport everywhere else in the world. So tell me, why is the rest of the world wrong?"

Quite honestly, the horns work really well when at a match. They definately add to the atmosphere.
But they should develop a filter to prevent that wavelength being transmitted on TV.
The best thing they seem to be doing this world cup is yellow carding the cry babies. Damn I've been wanting to do that for ages. Recently it seemed like soccer was about getting into the penalty area with the ball and falling over.
I enjoy a good game of soccer, but I'm no soccer fan. Same as I can enjoy a good Ice Hockey or American Football game. Baseball though, What The Hell? Is there a more boring sport to watch?
I honestly don't get the USA's hate for the rest of the world's sports. Especially the derogatory comments about "soccer being for girls, real men play football" when it is clear "football" is a softer form of Rugby. Learn to take a tackle noobs :)

Nope. It got stolen a while ago and I haven't bothered with buying a new one.

So in fantasy world, two teams can't be so evenly matched that in the offical alloted time neither can get the better of the other?
It's better to force the game on as long as possible, until one team slips up?

Nearly every sport has their version of flopping.
You can dive in football and basketball and hockey, and players do it.
Even pro and semi-pro paintball players practice wiping.
Seeing how far you can get away with something is part of professional sports.
It's kind of hard to do anything like that in baseball though, so there is that.

I was genuinely annoyed tha Edu's goal was disallowed. He plays for my team (Glasgow Rangers).
Kaka's sending off was laughable and I spent the whole night asking why they don't have video refs in football like they do in other sports.
As much as I dont like the Argies I fancy them to win this one.
Spain are playing terribly.
USA are punching above their weight but they could pull something out the bag but I wouldn't like that.
I was desperate for South Africa to go through their spirit and general decent football won me over.
Vuvuzela's should be banned although me and the boys had the air vuvu's out at the pub for the england game. (We were thrown out)

Conspiracy! I seriously believe that the refs have a bias and that FIFA can't ignore the issue of video refs anymore. Their claim that it slows the game down too much is a bunch of BS.
If they had video refs, then Ireland would have been in, and while they may have done just as poorly as France, at least they'd have been a lot more fun to watch.
How can FIFA expect the rest of the world who aren't massive soccer fanatics (i.e. the 4 biggest GDPs in the world for starters) to take the sport seriously when injustices are allowed to go un-noticed. Sure, they happen in other sports as well, but usually it's only the close calls that get through, handballs to qualify, handballs to win the whole thing (Maradonna anyone?) obvious dives, bad off-sides calls, you just can't let those things slide in a world where the fans have a better view to call the game than the lone ref on the field.
That said, the US showed that they'll soldier on despite the BS calls that are put up in their way to try and stop them.

Chewp, I've been big into soccer since I was in elementary school. I played in middle school, played in high school, had some college prospects, but had an unfortunate accident involving my knee breaking and going in directions it ought not go while playing keeper my junior year in high school.
I would love for the US to win a world cup, and maybe the sport get a little more exposure here in the states, but I was just excited they played as well as they did on a world stage (excluding their defense not waking up for the first 15 minutes............of every match). It's a beautiful game, if you understand it. If not, I can see how it would be boring. It takes more endurance and stamina, and mental capacity than does football, and basketball. Baseball is just boring to me, so I'm not even going to compare it, as it doesn't stand a chance in my mind.

Boring = the ball bouncing behind the goal line for the equaliser, quite clearly, and having a line judge not even in line with it calling it out.
Boring = running into the penalty area and falling over. Stay on your feet and play the ball and you'll get more goals.
Boring = people falling all over the damn place if they get a slight touch and cry about how injured they are if another team's player gets near them, yet they can get involved in a "blue on blue" tackle that HAD to leave a mark and they pop up like a jack in the box.
I enjoy a good game of soccer, but I'll watch junior school soccer over professional stuff any day of the week.
They need to get the Ref to explain his decisions like in Rugby, and some form of TV/ electronic goal monitoring. It doesn't slow the game.
90 minutes of rugby is played in 90 minutes! GASP, and it is more exciting than soccer.
And they need to start handing out yellow cards for people falling over. They are better at it, but if you end up on the floor surely they must card the guy who fouled you, or you for disrupting play? IF I was a ref there would be like 3 guys left on each team :)

I have the same thoughts every time I watch a game. If I see a player go down and I know for a fact he was untouched, yellow card. Next team member who tries it gets a red. I wouldn't be employed for very long...

:P I was watching a Rugby match the other day. I can't remember the offences but one side was doing **edited**ly little things the whole time. Nothing the ref could really call them on. SO he called the team captain over and gave him a warning. The next time his team did something HE was yellow carded. The team started behaving itself.
Captain your teams damnit. Have you no self pride? Oooooh I fell over. Boo hoo. If there isn't blood or a visible cramp you are being a pansy.
