Ormond-By-The-Sea.
Only 20 minutes north of Daytona Beach, but no driving on the beach, no towering resorts, no hoards of tourists. No traffic. No expensive parking lots. No noise from four-lane roads and cheesy shops selling Corona air-brushed boogie boards and matching tank tops.
Just pretty:

This is the place I was telling Mack about going if he wanted to go to a beach.
I brought a lawn chair, an umbrella, and my book. Took my pick between miles of places to sit down.
Read for a while and then fell asleep.
Then ate my fill of raw oysters for dinner in Daytona. That place is good for something. Just not beaches.

I really should hit the Atlantic beaches before I head back to Nebraska. I love the smell of the sea. Southern NJ is about the best option, maybe a day sittin on the beach will calm some issues in the mind.

After living in Daytona for 2 years, I can tell you that it is, in fact, good for nothing. I was down there last week and we stayed toward Wilbur by the Sea. Hotel deals were much better there than in Ormond. Beach was fairly busy, but nothing like Daytona. As far as seafood goes, there are some great places near Ponce Inlet. Theres also a good place on the river in Holly Hill, near a park, can't remeber the name though.

Little beaches ftw.
We take our boat out to this island whenever all the guys are down at the beach of the NC coast. technically a bird sanctuary, so 0 builings on the whole island. Just one of those places that only locals know about.

While I understand wanting to get away from it all. One of the best things about going to the beach is people watching. I also like being able to park on the beach. So for me Smyrna if pretty much the beach that we frequent. When we are down there that is.

I dont see oil in whales photo, therefor the oil spill was only 4,000 barrels and blown out of proportion. Logic.

It's the same ocean, and near florida. No oil, therefor the spill wasn't a catastrophe, and merely a small deal. The media blew it way out of proportion, all their fault

| I cannot nap at all. I just end up looking at the back of my eyelids till I get bored.
On really long road trips sleeping in the car is out of the question as well. I'll start to doze off then I'll jump back awake because I feel like I'm falling the entire time.

Same here. The only time I can ever nap and fall asleep for some amount of time is if I'm really sick.

I used to be able to read while riding in a vehicle, but it seems that now I begin to feel nauseous. Sucks.
Napping is fine though, as long as you're with other people who aren't all also asleep.

I used to be able to nap pretty much anywhere/anytime* and still remain somewhat aware of what was going on around me. (Who knows, I might still be able to . . . I just haven't had to do it in a while.)
*Including standing up if I locked my knees and had something to lean against.
