I Just got a paintball gun and the person that had it before me thought it would be a good idea to paint it. i don't think he used the right kind of paint, and over the years the paint just started to flake. I was wondering what the best way to remove the paint was, or is it even possible to just buy the Tippmann 98 custom case or shell. i mean like the part that all the guts of the gun go into, i think that would be easier, but if i did have to remove the paint what would be the best way to get it off? On another note, once i do get the paint off, what color will the gun be? (he steel wooled all the original black paint off). I was thinking silver, but is this correct? Here's a few pictures of the gun below, the bent barrel that you can see is the flatline barrel out of the shell. LOL. On another note, i payed 15$ for the gun got a 100$ flatline barrel, a 30$ combustion chamber, a 20$ double trigger. I think i got a good deal.    |

It would probably have been a good deal even if it didn't work. It's not a "combustion" chamber, it's an "expansion" chamber and along with it you also go a vertical adapter (located inside the marker) which is worth around $20. The last one I stripped I used sandpaper and a Dremel (the wire wheel to get in the small crevices). When you are done it will indeed be a silver color as that is the color of the metal it is made of. The previous owner probably decided to strip/paint it because the previous original paint did the same thing. (The stock paint on the older 98 series markers tended to wear off after a few years of constant use.) The flaking is probably indicative of failing to properly prep the marker before repainting although it could just be due to wear as well. -------------

Easiest is a wire wheel on the entire housings. I am pretty sure you can buy the left and right shells of the gun on TIppmann's proshop site. I'll check right now. It's no cheaper though. You can even buy paint stripper and it will do almost all of the paint strip and you just have to use a stiff brush to remove it. Will need steel wool or sandpaper for the stubborn spots though.
