When I pulled up to campus this morning, it was scampering down a hill. It started going under cars and eating the acorns that got broken up by the tires.

It was really chubby and didn't have a beaver's tail.

Best guesses from asking and looking at the Internet are marmot or groundhog.

hahahaha....

Yeah, that is a ground hog.

They can get very mean when cornered. Their teeth are super long and sharp too.

I shot one that was living under my porch from my dining room table a few weeks back...

They espeically seem to like areas near water. There is a bike path close to here that runs next to a river, and it is swarming with them about this time of year. I guess they are scrambling to fatten up for hybernation.

Here in NY the backyard is a 'woodchuck' haven, the bassets now even ignore them. I pop em with a .22 or for fun the .54 Sharps just because of the threat of rabies. You have never lived till you see a .54 bullet slam into a woodchuck....Strawberry Fields forever....

Those things did thousands of dollars worth of damage to my grandparents barn by undermining the foundation, you should have punted it. My best/worst idea was funneling gas into a hole and lighting w/ a rag on a stick, the vapor filled the massive tunnel complex, and flames shot out of unexpected places, it shook the ground pretty well.

Their fur makes for surprisingly comfortable gloves, and coat liners. The groundhog fur industry has become surprisingly significant - and contentious - in Ontario's economy since the auto manufacturers downsized. Huge export market.

I kinda like groundhogs, but I also like racoons.

I hate the things living around my house. They ate my tomatoes(es?) this summer, and I live in suburbia so I cant go around capping things with a .22.

Or, if I wanted to be a Detrevni, .458. Takes rocks out from a few hundred yards.

I lived in a neighborhood in the house before the one I live in now... And I blasted a groundhog with my 22 rifle, dropped it right in the backyard, first shot. (course I had 2 acres)

dumped it in the woods and walked inside, only to find out that our friends had just arrived... With their kids, and saw the whole thing...

whoops.

Groundhogs are bad news to your house, if they start digging underneath stuff...

We have traps too, which are fun... Nothing meaner sounding than a groundhog in a wire trap, frantically trying to get away.  Just flip the trap on its top, open the latch and let it drop down... It will run out away from you and you can blast it.

They are everywhere in Ohio. Our biggest problem animal currently is coyote's. Man, are they getting bad. Lost 3 chickens this year to them, and I hear them almost every night. When they kill something they all make a ton of noise. I camped next to one of our ponds a few weeks ago, and I hardly slept from because of the noise of all the different packs of coyote's around my area. Good thing we had our huge Akita out with us... She killed a deer this spring... Every week she kills something that crosses the yard. Awesome dog.

Coolest thing I've seen are red tailed foxes. They live in our woods as well. We also have a bunch of owls, and hawks. (my favorite is the great horned owl. Watching them fly through thick trees is amazing, their wingspan has to be 6 feet wide!)

Last month someone hit and killed a 14 point buck infront of our house in the road... And within an hour someone had come and cut off the rack!

When my uncle had chickens, he had problems with coyotes and stray/feral dogs killing them.

The problem with a trap is that you are only going to catch the one scout at a time.  To take care of your problem you need to locate the hive and take out the king groundhog.  The best way I have found to do this is to trap one, then use alternative interrogation techniques to gather intel on the whereabouts of the hidden lair.  I recommend waterboarding.  This usually takes a good 15 minutes of questioning to get the info you need, but it is worth the hassle when you walk into the groundhog king's palace with a chainsaw, slaughter his harem as he watches helplessly, then leave, trap him inside, and make your wife burn the place down along with him and his high priest*.   It should look similar to this:

*It is ok for her to leave the kitchen for this because it is her job to do all of the cooking.

A guy had one down the road from us when I was younger. Thing got nasty when it reached adulthood. He also had a racoon at one point. Same situation. They are really cute and cuddly until they get sick of being on a freaking leash and come after your butt one day.

My idiot friends back home(who ate paint chips, Tommy Boy) captured a baby skunk. It was too young to spray, and was cute and whatnot, but had the nappiest hair of any animal.
