Moved into a new apartment a little over a month ago and when they installed the internet the modem they gave us wasn't wireless. I headed over to Walmart and picked up a $40 Belkin F7D2301 wireless router and set up the modem and router by the tv in the living room. Up until yesterday it was working fine however it couldn't keep a wireless signal up for more then a few minutes yesterday. I could plug my computer directly into the modem and would get internet but the router wouldn't work no matter what I tried. Today I noticed something strange that could just be a coincidence but I swear this happens every time. If I turn my laptop's wireless adapter on and leave it next to the router, my computer in my bedroom can detect a wireless signal and I have no problems at all. Move the laptop away or turn it off, I lose signal instantly. Any clue what is going on? -------------  |

Belkin has a history of making shoddy equipment. My wife's Belkin is what we use for wireless here and until recently, it would drop signal at the bat of an eye. Various factors will influence the connectivity such as people using microwaves, cell phones, cordless phones, or RF interference.
My suggestion is to save up for a better router with dual-band capability. ------------- <Removed overly wide sig. Tsk, you know better.> |

What Tallen said. I've never owned a Belkin that actually worked well. And I've owned three. When I moved I finally splurged and got a Linksys. |

whats your OS? The first thing I'd do is open up your network connections and remove the wireless profile, reboot, and re add it and see if that helps. ------------- ? |

Reb my desktop is Windows 7 and the laptop and roommates desktop is Windows XP. I tried that already. I also reinstalled the newest firmware on the router. In the router settings I also tried to set up a wireless access point using the WAN IP but all that did was make the modem bypass the router and not give off a wireless signal. I know Belkin is crap, but I wanted something cheap because Im moving again midway through December. Just got back from work and it hasnt lost its connection in over 5 hours. Take the laptop away and both of us lose connection instantly. Bring the laptop back and we both can connect. Kind of strange to me...  Laptop is currently about 3 ft away from the router and both our desktops are 25+ ft.And usaf has it right...its just series of tubes...lots and lots of tubes. They kinda made a mess with all the tubes when installing it. ------------- |

Strange, I can recieve signal all the way upstairs and whole oppisite side of house with a Belkin. Hooked it up to a TWC box, hardline to main PC downstairs, watch Netflix movies in bedroom upstairs wireless.
Interference? More people in complex with close frequencies, I am not a computer geek but radio signals kinda work the same in any format. -------------
