i got active as well, congrats! i was 1,922 on the active duty list, 68%. Only one guy who wanted active got deferred to the reserves, so overall it wasn't bad for our school. Any idea what date branches come out?

Nice, I got 976, 34% on the AD OML. Any idea how many people got active? We only had one that I know of who got deferred, and he is not taking it well at all. The projected date for branches is 21OCT, but I have been warned by the cadre that they never come out on time. Most likely early NOV.
And then I realized that I took algebra once upon a time. 2870 out 6xxx got active.

they were supposed to come out mid October last year, but didn't because of a delay, but my PMS doesn't give out the branches until all the seniors are in the room at the time. The total number in the nation was 5342 of which i was 2599. The total number taken for active was 2817.
not TOO shabby on the math, but i guess you don't plan on going finance

I suppose it would have come out closer if I hadn't rounded to whole percents. Definitely not finance, MP or FA

Wow, getting sent straight to the reserves must suck.
The Marine Corps requires all officers to do at least four years active, and essentially guarantees eight if you want it (unless you're a total screwup and they have to separate you).

Quite a few marines I know with less than 8 years in, both officer and enlisted, have had quite a few gripes that the Marine Corps have NOT been doing that over the last few years. I don't know if it's true or not, but I can think of 3 or 4 guys off the top of my head that had to go through hell and back trying to re-up, because it's cheaper for the government to pay new officers/soldiers at lower paygrades, than to continuously pay out for higher paygrades and signing bonuses.
Again, may not be true, but I've heard that story from a few different unconnected people.

That may be the case for enlisted, but unless you are actually not doing your job, staying in for eight years is virtually guaranteed for officers.
As an officer, you don't have to re-up, you just have to not say you're leaving. If you're enlisted, you do in fact have to sign a new contract.

That's idiotic. The bloody bureaucrats clear aren't factoring the expense of paying for killed or wounded soldiers because, instead of retaining experienced leaders, they send kids into combat under brand new idiot junior officers fresh out of school.

POG. don't spell it phonetically.
Congrats. I enjoyed my time in the USMC and decided to transfer to the USAF an maintain my SF MOS.
The USMC has no problem maintaining experienced leaders, they have a problem keeping available boat spots for those people. There are only a certain amount of boat spots for re-ups vs new enlistments and when they all get filled either the re-up will be deferred to IR/Reserves or has to change MOS.

POG!? Isn't that a popular game played in Hawaii with milk caps? Poge, Pogey bait eater, and pogue are the spellings I have read in books during and since I was in the Corps.

POG was always the abbreviation that was used if it were put in to spelling while I was in. Thinking about it Pogue wouldn't make sense seeing as how it stands for Person Other than Grunt.

Hmmm, although I don't agree I will dig into this a bit deeper, time to get the Marine Corps museum involved.

Both are acceptable, I checked in to it further. POGUE would be Person On Ground With Unused Equipment and then there is POG which would be Person Other than Grunt or Person On Garrison.
