Ok, so I got sick about 4 weeks ago. It took me about a week to get better. But I have been having a cough since then. It can get pretty bad too. I have mini cough attacks. It's more of a dry cough than anything. Every once in awhile, a little mucus will come up, but that's not often. If I talk long enough, it makes the back of my throat feel dry and I have to cough or stop talking for a few seconds. I have been using Halls cough drops for a week or two to get through the day. It used to be so bad that I would cough A LOT all day and it just got ridiculous.
Any idea what it is/what to do?

Whenever I get coughing fits after and during a cold I usually get some buckleys. Helps cover and sooth the throat. Little swig stops the soarness and cough for a bit.
Gargle saltwater?

It's everywhere. Respiratory symptoms are our number one complaint in the ER right now, and apparently whatever meds they give people isn't killing it.
I've had it myself for a while, but I guess with asthma I'm used to hacking occasionally. My theory is really just allergies-your sinuses drain at night down your throat, it collects around your lungs, you have dry mucous all the next day until that little bit comes up.
For me, I drink a crap ton of water, and hot tea with honey works well to break that stuff up.
If you get really bad, like feeling like you can't breathe, hit up your local ER and make sure you don't have pneumonia. We've had alot of that lately as well.

I get a bad dry cough every year around Christmas time. It's a real pain, because otherwise I never ever get sick. I'd suggest trying Waltussin, it's pretty cheap at Walgreens, and is just a generic cough suppressant that works really well on non-congestion related coughs. That, and just keep a jug of water with you, eventually it will go away.

I'll have to go to the pharmacy or something and see what they say. I'll probably pick up what you guys suggested. This is just really annoying and it feels like it's getting worse again.

I use a mixture of honey and vodka or gin. Mix a little vodka/gin with honey, make sure you do not put too much in, honey has to remain thick. Two tablespoons slow swallowed will coat throat and numb due to alcohol.

I find Mucinex works in just about every cold/cough combination I've encountered. Even if I had a dry cough, I'd take some Mucinex and literally in 15 minutes I'd cough up a whole bunch of goodies that I didn't think were there.

Make an appointment with PUSH. Its free for Purdue students unless they run tests (blood test, etc). You can always tell them no on the tests too.
Also Im going to have to ask you to stay out of Wiley Dinning Hall till you are no longer coughing. Thank you.

I have been thinking about going to PUSH. They just seem like they never know what they are doing. pntbl freak, do you work there? It seems like I would recognize you, but you would have to be on the outside. From now on, I'll be going to Wiley to eat until I find you. I actually had dinner there tonight.

Haha yeah I do and Ill be there till the end of this semester. I worked the Wednesday dinner shift and was the one in a tan shirt taking care of the beverage stations for most of the night (collecting empty cup holders, changing milk and juices machines, etc...).

Pntbl, if you get off of work late, remember to go straight to your car and have your rape whistle handy now that RoboCop is gunning to find you. Stranger danger!

I'm still not exactly OK from my infections earlier. I still wake up with sore sinuses and a slight cough.

My wife's going through the same thing. She ran the gambit from a chest cold to bronchitis to pneumonia. After that, she's still coughing on a regular basis, a dry, hacking cough that she can't seem to shake. Its getting better slowly, but its taking its toll on her.
The killer is, that despite her being a walking disease factory, neither myself nor our son has gotten even remotely sick.

I don't feel sick. It's just this darn cough. So I don't think it's anything that can spread. It's just annoying having to cough in the middle of class and smelling like cough drops all day.

Mucinex with cough suppressant works wonders. I still have a small cough, but it has helped a bit. I'll have to see if it gets any better as days go by.

Well mucinex has pretty much gotten rid of the cough. I only cough every once in awhile and they are no where near as harsh. Thank you paintballfrenzy for the suggestion!
