So, my roommate and I were watching the news last Saturday evening, and we saw what was probably the umpteenth story about Four Loko. From the FDA cracking down on them, to college kids exploding their brains with them. After hearing all the buzz going around about these alcoholic energy drinks, we decided to give them a try before they get the ban-hammer (Which appears to be sooner rather than later). After a short stop at the local drive-through beer and liquor barn emporium (Still not used to those) we had two of them. I chose lemonade, my roommate got watermelon. First, the look of the can:  I can understand why some would be concerned with this. I mean, it looks like an energy drink you grab and gulp down why riding away on your skateboard and yelling "Kowabunga." I crack the bad boy open and take a gulp. And it is not very good. Not at all. The taste is like if someone took about five of the Crystal Lite individual lemonade packets and dumped them into a can of concentrated Steel Reserve. I've had Mikes Hard Lemonade before, and other than being way too sweet, they are not terrible. This was just offensive to every part of my face. The alcohol is way strong and burn-inducing too, so it's not like the alcohol is in any way enjoyable. Next, I sampled my roommates. Which was a bad idea, because the watermelon flavor was worse than the lemonade. The best I can describe was that it tasted like I was making out with an alcoholic Jolly Rancher. Super sweet fake flavoring with awful alcohol. After rinsing my mouth out with an Old Milwaukee, which was a welcome respite, I decided to go back to my Loko. To my horror, it had warmed up a bit, which took away any of the enjoyable left from the crispness of the lemon flavoring. To solve this problem — and not waste my $2 — I poured mine over ice and put some lemon juice in it. After I doctored it up a bit, it was not as terrible as it could have been. Not only that, but after a whole can, you don't even get the fun, relaxing downer of a buzz, because the caffeine starts to make you feel all antsy, like you need to go fist-pump to bad techno music and verbally abuse women. All in all, one of the least enjoyable things I have tasted in a long time. However, I suggest you all go out and try one tonight, as the company is pulling them off the shelves and replacing them with a caffeine-free version to appease the critics. It's something you should at least try once. |

Yea, I tried the cranberry lemonade one after the stories hit to see what all the fuss is all about. The flavor was awful and since it took me a while to drink it just got worse, due to it getting warm. I didn't feel any more energized or felt any caffeine buzz, but that may be due to my high caffeine intake on a daily basis.
Now, I heard they are taking the caffeine out of them. I wonder how that is going to affect their sales. |

A few friends and I have partaken in them before just because of the buzz generated by them recently. In no way did they taste any good at all. If consumed by themselves, they aren't really a problem. It is when you have people doing shots + 5 of these or playing beer pong with them that you have trouble. Think you misunderstood my post. Rockstar Energy actually produce a Vodka Tall boy thats like 6.9% for just under 2 bucks each. The first one you drink isn't so bad... after that it all goes down hill. I agree though I would much rather just mix the stuff myself to get the desired taste ------------- I ♣ hippies. |

You can thank the college kids in a few towns over from me for this one. They didn't realize that these were ALCOHOLIC drinks and decided they could drink a bunch of them with no ill effects. They were wrong and when the police arrived they described the scene as "chaos." A bunch of stupid 19 year old college kids so drunk they looked like zombies. I have heard that Lemonade is the best. I tried Blue Raspberry and it was.... horrible. I plan on picking up a few this week to horde before theyre gone. Maybe Ill drink them here or there, maybe Ill show em to my grandkids when im Mack's age, or maybe I will sell them in a year for $20 each. Who knows.
Ive also been to a few parties where I have seen girls with a four loko in each hand drinking them. -------------

He was buying some other godawful energy sweet tarts / piss mixture when the owner of the liquor store comes running out and goes "OMG U GOTTA TRY THIS NEW DRINK". He bought a few flavors and they all tasted like pure ass. He ended up drinking three or four cans and complaining about his stomach while I peacefully enjoyed my Captain Morgan's and Coke. |

| I much enjoyed my four loko than any beer I have tasted. Nonetheless, I don't like to drink beer and I like the taste of sweet fruit flavors. Then again, when I drank four loko, it was the only time I ever threw up, but then you can also say that I can never drink that much beer to get me close to that. |

I'm gonna hit you silly bastards with something better... 15% alc 32mg/100ml caffeine. Truly a drink of the gods. It's even made by monks. It is reportedly mentioned in 1 out of 10 violent crime reports in Scotland. They are trying to ban it. Pseudonyms include: Bucky, electric soup and "Wreck the hoose juice" As far as whiskey goes I have a cheeky 12 year old Glenlivet that I don't think I'll open any time soon but I really want to. |

I've tried it. Some girl actually GAVE me a bottle that was about 90% full one time. Followed the instructions and everything, no effects. I've heard that the bottles they sell here don't actually have the same wormwood or whatever in them that it does elsewhere. Tastes like licorice/jaeger sort of. The first I've actually heard about it was on this forum, and the other night I had a patient absolutely plastered on the stuff, just acting odd, as being drunk from four loko isn't like being drunk from the average alcoholic drink. Most of the nurses at the hospital hadn't even heard of it.
Still don't quite get the uproar though. -------------

From someone who would definitely know about such things: "I was in Ireland and got to drink Absinthe. Absinthe is a liquor that they outlawed because it's supposed to make you trip hallucinogenically. So, I got excited because I like to hallucinate. So, I started drinking lots of shots of it. But, really, it's just a liquor. So, I was just getting "DRUNKED" up... I wasn't even remotely tripping. But, after 10 shots, I fell to the ground and tried to force the trip. "WHY IS THE FLOOR AS LOW AS I CAN GO!?". But, I was just faking it, ya know? It wasn't a from the heart trip. "Why is lemonade not aiding?"" -Mitch Hedberg

Most people wouldnt have heard of it if it wasnt for the news. I went to a mini student summit for an organization at my college and they pretty much asked us how they should address 4lokos. Most of us said we didnt know about it till recently. All of us pretty much said that if you start saying to stay away from it, and bring publicity to it, thats when the popularity will rise on campus. So they seem to be going with the wait till they see someone on campus really acknowledge the use or until a problem arises. -------------

It amuses me that legislators do things like this to "protect" college age kids. You know what happens when you take Malt Liquor + Energy Drink products off the shelves? People go back to making their own. And you will NOT convince me that 4Loko is more dangerous than Red Bull + Vodka.

How about the students are all adults, and if they get themselves messed up on alcohol and energy drinks, they get to deal with the consequences? It's not the role of a campus to nanny students who are dumb. They won't learn anything that way. If kids are going to abuse alcohol the school can't stop them. I've had it twice, once in Spain and once in France. Both times it was no different than normal booze, but I didn't drink much of it/ expect much or anything to happen. I'm a heavyweight for drugs, so I wasn't surprised. |

and 6 hours after starting it, the alcohol is completely worn off, but the caffeine won't let me sleep. These would be great for starting/maintaining an all day binge.
