I know quite a few longboarders who do tricks on both longboards and shortboards. Just because it's a longboard doesn't mean it actually has to be long, it just means it has to be not a huge pain to go somewhere on it. Which skateboards are.

I am assuming that by "faster" you mean more efficient. Now, there are two legitimate methods of measuring efficiency here: time, and energy. I only have so much time. I also only have so much energy. The higher friction bearings and smaller wheels in a skateboard mean I will have to use significantly more energy to get from point A to point B than I would have on my longboard. Ergo, your comparison of a longboard to a Lambo is not particularly relevant. Also, I can carve much more enjoyably. ------------- BU Engineering 2012 |

That's ignant. Longboards are fast and efficient as hell, especially with good bearings. In a walk vs. board race of 3 blocks, they would be finished by the time you finished the first block. |

So are you going to tell me how skateboards are a pain in the ass to get somewhere on as apposed to longboards or are you just going to play the "But they go really fast" card? Because lets face it, unless you are on a road going head to head with someone in a straight line then its really a toss up. People on Longboards are generally stuck to riding on the road, which is all good, but if we are talking about going from point A to point B there are many different variables that can hinder ones ability to get to the destination. It all depends on the surroundings. People who ride longboards are screwed when it comes to things such as curbs to staircases. Where as Skateboards can go anywhere longboards go. Grab a skater and a longboarder give them a starting point and a destination and let them map out their route and I bet you the Skateboarder will surprise you with how quick the can navigate there surroundings in comparison to the longboarder. ------------- I ♣ hippies. |

You live in a world of pure imagination. First, no, you're not screwed when it comes to stairs. Bunny hopping on most longboards isn't that hard (if uncoordinated me could do it on a 44" Barfoot, I'm pretty sure anyone can.) Second, people tend to go places on the road. I can't think of a time I ever couldn't go somewhere because I was on a longboard and the people with me were on shortboards. Thanks dude, that means a lot to hear. To be clear the slides were designed by the graphics cowboys on my team, while we all created the content that we were discussing in the slides. Things such as Urlo and Mark the Spot were kind of my baby. Same with the Shoji lamp, I wound up sketching the final form for it, then figured out all the measurements with another guy on my team, then built it. For RunDC that was a team effort across the board, then we each worked to our strengths to make it happen, so I made things like this: |

You need to go back and read what I wrote. I'll rephrase it for you, though: when I was longboarding, I could go up stairs, do tricks, and still move quickly on fast surfaces without constantly pushing.
