Originally Bethesda was supposedly using an updated version of the Gamebryo engine, but now they've confirmed that they've built an entirely new engine. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new engine is like. Gamebryo is really starting to show its age.

I think I might play TES 3 and 4. Having never played any of the series.
