Subject: Car Audio or Bass Fans

A couple of years ago I was given a brand new bazooka boom tube that has sat forgotten in the original box until now.

Not being an car audio freak, I am not too familiar with what it is. I assume it is used to amplify the bass.

Is this correct?

Now on to my more important questions. Would thi piece of equiptment be specific to the one vehicle it was marketed for? Could it worrk with all or most car sound systems? Could it be made to work with home audio equiptment if I wanted to do so?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Wheres Sniper69 when i need him?

Yeah, its a powered sub. no, its not vehical specific, and if you know what your doin you can make it work with a factory system, or a aftermarket headunit. And yeah, iv seen people hook these systems to work with home audio systems with the right know how. I could help with that if you need it.

Not at all. Theres close to $1000 in my camaro's system and thats plenty. I cant turn the volume knob past 20 without physical pain, so I figured I didn't need any more. LOL

^what they said, they put those in the scions with the upgraded sound packages, they aren't the loudest or the cleanest sounds sub but they get the job done.

EDIT

I to also no how to run car audio subs in a home system.

Hmm. I had a though today that I could put it into my game room and place it behind my gaming chair and have nice bass with my 360.

Good or bad idea. Any idea what I need to get it to work with a home's electrical power. I also assume I would need a reciever or something to hook it into.

I have no idea what I would be doing in this area. Plugging in the red and white cords is as far as I know about audio setup.

Ok so basically to get it to work properly it would help if I knew what model of bazooka woofer you had. But the system I built we used an old computer power supply to power the amplifier, then we ran the rca wires from a surround sound system into the amp. Then boom we had mega bass that shook the house. FYI explosions in COD are absolutely amazing coming from a car sub.

Ill get the model number tonight. Ive has it stored in a garage for years and I dont recall of the top of my head.

Im excited to hear that I can finally get iuse out of it. I just realized I have a buddy that can help me set it up physically.

Thanks again Im sure I will have a million more questions.

You are better off selling the car audio bazooka tube and buying a powered home sub...

Car audio is designed to be used with ac not dc (2-4 ohm). It won't perform as it should and will eventually damage the sub (home subs are typically 8 ohm). Especially if you turn it up and end up sending distortion through the sub... If you don't convert the signal to only low bass signals.

you could probably sell the sub for around the cost of one of these.

I have one in my theater... Great sub!

If you really want to use it, you need to make sure you aren't sending through mid and high to your sub, using some type of bandwidth limiter to only accept the bass signals.

I used to compete in car audio, as my lowrider had a very big system (2 rockford fosgate pro 12 inch subs built into the bed, and a walk through with a few subs, and altec lansing mids and tweets.

I was pushing 148 spl in my under 250 watt class... Good enough to win just about every contest I entered. I could flip quarters on the roof when the bass hit.

I don't know that I'd disagree with him to some extent. The people who spend every dime they have on their system, and think their sub diameter has a direct relationship to their RL-peen; they're just as bad as any ricer/mustang/bike owner. Pretty well comes with the territory of taking anything too seriously.

People who throw two 12" and an amp aren't car audio people.

FE is right, it will be more work than it is worth to make a car sub work in a home theater scenario. Car audio subs (depending on how many voice coils they have, and Bazooka's only have 1) will run a 1,2, 4, and 8 OHMS. OHMS is the resistance against the woofer and if this number isn't matched with it's power sources output then you will damage the sub pretty quick and in some instances even damage the amplifier.

The BT's can work in any car with any sound system, be it factory or aftermarket. Get yourself a nice Home Theater set up and a nice subwoofer with it.

And I am everywhere. But mostly in the middle east. I'm always just a PM away though.

And I remember sending Snipa a PM about car audio at least 5 years ago. Good times.

Thanks for all the advice. After I pulled it out of the garage I had the urge to put it in a car and use it as intended.

Ill have more questions tommorow when I pull it out of the box and get the model.

Another question, my car has audio controls on the steering wheel. Volume, mode and channel surf and channel skip. Are there certain car stereos that have this feature? Or are they all that way these days.

Would the stereo I have now be backwards compatable to a car without the steering wheel controls?

Thanks.

I believe you will have to get an adapter box thingy* to make the wheel controls work with an aftermarket head unit

What kind of car? You can always integrate steering wheel controls with an aftermarket stereo; you just need the right part. PESWIPS, SWICAN, or an ASWC are the three interface modules I've used with the last one being the best because it auto programs with most vehicles.

If you are asking if you could take your stereo out and put it in the same car but without controls, the answer is usually no. This is because the cars that come with SW controls are usually some form of premium sound systems and the lesser model vehicle will have a different plug going in to the stereo.

You could always tap it into your factory one like I did in my Jeep at first. Its not as great as with an aftermarket headunit, but you can keep your SW controls. Or like evile said, you might be able to find an adapter for an aftermarket one.

Snipa, if I get you the spacifics on my jeep and my headunit you think you could track down one of those interfaces? Iv done everything except that, so any help with that would rock.

Have you looked through Crutchfield to see if they have anything?  I know they carry a fair assortment of adapters.

Any Line-Output Converter (LoC) will work with a factory system. They convert high level single to a low-level one that you can hook your RCA's in to. That's to hook it in to a factory radio though

What kind of stereo do you have and what type of jeep is it? Year make and model. The ASWC will usually work for most cars as an interface and you can download the install instructions from their website.

Great head unit by the way.

You wanted steering wheel controls right? The ASWC will work for that from Metra. Great piece, one of my favorites.
