Quit being greedy bastards. For what you do, you get paid WAY too much.
Hell, you make more in a single game playing a sport than I will in my entire career of saving lives. You make more in a season than a teacher will teaching 20 years worth of students. You make more in a season than a cop will in his entire career dealing with the worst people and putting his life on the line.
I would be ECSTATIC if I got paid $100,000 a YEAR to be a damn benchwarmer, let alone any other spot on the field. Your ability to play with a ball doesn't entitle you to millions of dollars a year when your actions compared to those of Paramedics, firefighters, police and teachers, don't mean crap.

So you want the owners to make more money?
Also I do believe that their ability to play with a ball does entitle them to millions of dollars. There's a huge demand for great players and they are only a few great players in the world today. As for those jobs that you listed, as noble as they are, a lot more people can be taught those jobs then how to play a professional sport.

Naw, I didn't get in to my job for the money (though more wouldn't hurt), but it's utterly retarded that people who are already over-paid are demanding more money... for a game.

If I wasn't going to be able to walk when I turned 50, I'd want some millions to compensate.

Right, because 50 year old Ex-NFL players can't walk...

Maybe not QB's and WR's, but interior linemen and fullbacks barely have knees and or a spine after they're done with their career.

Relevant:
Dangers of Steroids:
- premature balding or hair loss
- dizziness
- mood swings, including anger, aggression, and depression
- problems sleeping
- nausea and vomiting
- trembling
- high blood pressure that can damage the heart or blood vessels over time
- aching joints
- greater chance of injuring muscles and tendons
- jaundice or yellowing of the skin; liver damage
- urinary problems
- shortening of final adult height
- increased risk of developing heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer
On that note, I am not really agreeing with Linus. People pay to see them they should profit.

Can I complain about my relative pay too? I have a full time job (at work 50 hours a week) teaching people how to fly. My students are all going to be applying for an airline in Taiwan, which will make them First Officers for 747s by the end of 2012. Any disruption to my well being - fatigue, stress, illness, etc - greatly increases the chance that I mess up and get my student and me killed... which means I cannot work a second job to support my income. I could not fly today because of an insanely strong emotional hit. I've taken such a hit before and I can say I'm glad I was the one under instruction that day, as I would not have been able to land the plane. Violating any of the regulations can be grounds for the suspension of my certificate for at least a month if an inspector deems it so. Such violations can go a long way towards preventing me from getting future jobs.
After loan repayments and rent, I'll be lucky if I can afford to eat without my parents' help. My wage just barely keeps me over the poverty line. Every day, I work towards giving my students more responsibility in the aircraft. One day, I will sign the first one off to take the plane on his own. I only make $60-$100 per day before taxes... if we get to fly. If not, it's significantly less.
Our pay boils down to this: Athletes are entertainers. Pro sports give people something to unwind to (or wind up to). There is great demand for them to demonstrate their talents. There are few people capable of competing on their level. There are thousands of instructors who beg flight schools for time in the airplane, offering to work for free. Athletes are harder to come by than new flight instructors, which makes my wage so much easier for my employers to justify.
While I think the workers that serve to protect the people deserve more pay, it comes down to economics and politics. Somewhere there will be a guy complaining about his higher taxes as an EMT wheels him through an ER door, and the politicians want to avoid increasing taxes at all costs in this day and age.

I don't care how much athletes make. Like Tolgak said, they're part of the entertainment industry, and that's a booming industry at the moment. Athletes, singers, actors, etc etc, they're all pretty much in the same industry these days. It's not unusual to see them all cross-performing (*cough*Michael Jordan*cough*).
That said, my issue comes in when their status as athletes overrides their legal responsibilities. You shouldn't have a free card to get away with things that would put the rest of us in jail for a large portion of our lives.

Edited that for you. Since it really wasn't that factual.
