Because I already bought it! :D  I have to say, I'm INFINITELY more comfortable on this bike than I am on the VTX. I've already taken it to my grandparents' house an hour away. The only problem is the wind is KILLER. It's not the temperature, as it's been a nice 71* here, it's just the physical strain. I've been doing some research, and it seems this is a prevalent issue for the Bonneville. A fly screen should do wonders at highway speeds. I also need some crash bars I can strap some foot pegs to. |

Not really sure why I have to mention I have a new, well-paying job in every thread I make... Anyway, financial responsibility is coming along fine, considering I traded my other motorcycle for this one. I'm in the same boat I've been in for a while. Fortunately, it's a comfy boat. The only question left is this: What direction do I want to take this thing? Cafe' racer or bobber? |

looks great! Personally i dislike the crotch rocket, pocket racer themed bikes. seems like a risky thing. That looks solid though, I like the green/white color scheme edit-guess I should clarify, I like the fact that your bike ISN'T a pocket racer style bike |

Crash Bars and windscreen on a classic 'bug eater'....please. Triumphs are for MEN to ride, face in the wind, faith in your skill. And keep it 'stock' cafe racers and/or bobbers are for the light in the loafer crowds.
Triumphs are great bikes, a littlr maintenece heavy but overall all right. At least the newer modeld have crankshaft counterbalancers, not like the old days of true 'thumpin' beehive up the butt feeling 250miles into a 400 mile day. -------------

I almost got a free 1978 Suzuki this weekend. Someone posted to my Craigslist ad. GS750 4cyl, 4 carb. Needed minor reassembly (intake manifold, fenders, carb rebuild). The dealbreaker was the title... -------------

I'm not here to prove my masculinity. I love the bike. I love the name, I love the style, and I love the ride. However, there are some things that I love a little less than others, and I'm gonna tweak those things until my bike is 100% the way I like it. After all, what is motorcycling about? Freedom of the road and self-expression, or fitting into stereotypes and catering to others? I'm not offended by your post, or getting defensive or anything. I'm just trying to justify my desire to "tinker," as it's been put.  In regards to bobber vs. cafe', I'm a HUGE fan of the style and personality of bobbers. Just down-and-dirty street machine. I also like the performance behind cafe' racers. They're like a classier crotch-rocket (  ). Either way, I'm gonna capitalize on the retro styling. And don't worry so much, y'all. It's not like these things are rare. Also, I think I'm pretty tasteful in regards to planning and modding vehicles, if I do say so myself. Also, thanks for the compliments, guys! |

Awesome looking bikes i much prefer the blacked out Bonnie myself as i HATE polishing chrome and the Black model has the cast wheels with tube less tires (again a preferance thing). Have considered getting one myself a few times but Comfort and tourability top my list of needs and for the price there are better options for me. But for a commuter weekend toy triumph in my books OWNS the game. AS for the modding id recommend leaving it as is and just working on becoming a better rider learn the basics and truly hone your skills. Once ya do that ya can better decide how you want to change the bike because if you change the looks in a big way odds are you very effectivly change the way the bike react to control inputs. Riding is about alot of different things to alot of different people. Spend some time riding and find out what its all about to you. To me i just have fun to hell with every thing else. I agree with Bear. I hated the chrome on my bike. I spent more time cleaning it than riding it. I liked the way the Nightrain was blacked out and did the same on my scooter. Last summer, I found exhaust heatshields for my model, but not for the year. I found a shop nearby that would powdercoat or ceramic coat my heatshields for me. I opted for ceramic since I didn't know how hot my exhaust would get. Bike looks really nice now. The forks, however are glaring at me now.  Now that Bonny looks sharp! Guy at work has one and he loves it. He wants to trade up to a Rocket 3 cylinder which would be a BEAST! But happy with what he has. I like the way they look. The seat looks a little flat and I'm not a fan of the mid controls, but that is a zip-around-scooter much like the Sporster I used to have. If you feel more comfortable on that, then you are ahead of the game. Nice pickup. -------------

Pretty bike. Honestly, I didn't realize Triumph was still even around. Also didn't realize there was a difference between bobbers or cafe style bikes. Lastly, since when does customizing a motorcycle in a certain style make you light in the loafers? I don't know too many nancy boys that are wrenching on bikes, and the dudes I see on the TV show CafeRacer seem pretty manly to me. Just sayin.
I like the bike as is, looks pretty retro. When it comes down to it, it's your bike and you can do whatever the heck you want with it. Only suggestion I would give is to keep permanent mods to a minimum, because while you may like it, personalization can in some cases actually devalue the bike, not increase it. Anyway, I'm thinking I'll go cafe'. Bearclaw brings up a good point. As a new rider, I don't want to modify the feel of the bike too drastically, however, there are some things I'd like to change. A bobber would be too much for me at this point. Currently, it has a very "proper" stance. Standard footing, and very upright back. I catch wind like a parachute, as mentioned in the OP. To remedy this, I'm thinking some shorter handlebars and a cafe' guard/fly screen. Doing some highway riding, I "race tuck" as low as I can to cut wind as effectively as possible. The position is not uncomfortable, to be honest. I agree with the seat. It's comfortable, but I'd like to scootch back against something, so I may put a Thruxton seat on there. All that leans towards the cafe' look, so for comfort, aesthetics and fun, it seems cafe' is the way to go.

Going back to paintball, I have a $1,200 pump pistol. Just to put my silliness into perspective! But seriously, I don't have any intentions on reselling, so I'm not really worried about that. I just want my bike the way I like it. :) I love bobbers though. Taking a perfectly good motorcycle and making it unridable. There's something behind their down and dirty meanness. Besides, it's what I do. I mod stuff. Paintball guns, cars, motorcycles, whatever. Remember this conversation when you are trying to buy a house in a couple of years for your beautiful pregnant wife while staring at the motorcycle sitting in your garage that you have $20k +invested in and wondering if you can even get a couple of grand for it. Life happens. Been there.

Redux or Duckslide? That seems about right for a Duckslide, but I haven't seen an actual 'Dux go for less than four figures... As for your image of "life," I've been fighting that for a long time now.
