You know, it's funny how time slips by. Basically, I had me an experience this evening where I got to thinking about how long I've been posting on this forum. Almost, what, 8 friggin years now? The times we've had, the people we've seen, the memories... But I need not wax poetic here. No, I'm not leaving or going anywhere. I hope to be here till the end of the internets or me, whichever comes first, but I'm sure I'm not the only one to say it (actually, I know I'm not): You guys rock. Seriously. It will constantly amaze me what a dysfunctional big family this place has become for me, and many others over the years. I feel like I've grown and been through so much over the last nearly 8 years of my existence, but the forum has always been one thing that's been constant. So, thanks for being there, really is all I'm trying to say. If we're lucky to have our paths cross, I'll buy you a beer or something. Cheers. I love you all. I forgot how bad my acne was. Also, I've lost nearly 40 pounds since then. YAY ME! those were both during my first year at college... the beer bong picture was just before that... probably around april of 04. here we go, summer of 03... I know i have a join date of 02, which was when the forum update was... so I probably joined in 2001 some time  I had a mustache!!  and now i have none!!!  |

heh, this is the oldest pic of me I have on any of the drives sitting around here. It's from 2 years after I joined the forum.  And the most recent:  I realize the head-wear may make you think I'm pushing the limits of douche-bag-mode given the cut-off t-shirt I'm wearing, but it's my thinking cap. It's like a Pavlovian response as far as I can tell; I put the beanie on and I just feel like writing, so I wear it when I have a writing assignment to work on. -------------

I look the same in a my forum pics. The only thing that's changed is that I've cut my shag into a respectable very short do, and I have a chin strap working its way to a beard.
On the original topic, this forum is my official therapy in life. I don't talk about to pretty much anyone, and only one girl I dated knew about it. But every time I get bummed with life, which has been alot, this place always seems to distract me. It's funny, I've been here for going on six years, and I'm 24. So you guys have seen me through around six cars, two moves, an engagement, a loss of some good friends, the hardest times in my life and the best times, becoming an alcoholic, dumping alcohol and doing drugs, dumping drugs and doing alcohol, screwing up with some amazing girls, meeting new amazing girls, dumping alcohol again,, getting my first tat, dealing with unemployment, dealing with near pregnancy scares (they're bad), and finishing a project I've had since I was just a kid. So I guess I owe this place some gratitude as well. -------------

I honestly have no idea how long I've been on here. Forever. I was here before this forum. I think I was on this forum and the Counter Strike forum at the same time. I joined CS just before the Beta 5.2 update IIRC. So that was around 1999.

| I started lurking in 2001, and joined after the forum update. It's been a long, interesting time since then. I've had good times playing with people from here or at scenarios I heard of here, met a few people i truly enjoy having discussions with, and had some life experiences I felt compelled to share along the way. I don't know if any of my friends know i'm on here still, but I think i tend to vent less about personal stuff, which is for the better. You guys have a knack for convincing people to take themselves less seriously or leave. I've graduated high school, did my LOL 10 weeks, used what pay I got and also worked back-to-back shifts and slept in my car to pay for community college, continued my education, dropped the ball-and-chain I had, gone through 4 cars, a few decent part time jobs, got arrested(not convicted), and occasionally disappeared from this place for either great summer employment or family crises. I always come back for the great discussions we occasionally have, even when i just lurk. You guys have provided the ability to have some educational and intellectual supplements that I think I often miss out on going to school and living at home. It's kind of amazing that I can have such a good experience sitting in front of a screen typing. I've never had a game console or been particularly interested in computers. I've always valued hands-on experiences highly, so I wouldn't say that this would naturally seem to be "my thing". Still worth it for things that social media doesn't provide. I've often considering joining other forums for discussion, but other than very technical gun-related stuff, this is really the only forum I seem to need. Science, politics, history, humor in an online community made possible by a bunch of people who at one time or another liked to shoot at each other for sport. You're one hell of a crowd. |
