My life is pretty awesome, and it blows my mind.
For my career, I went to school for machining. I spent two years doing it, have 3 certifications, and enough credits for an associates when the program is officially launched. I'm only 22, I've been in the industry for only 6 months, and I'm already highly regarded at my shop. I love all my coworkers and management. I love what I do.
As for material possessions, I've had two motorcycles, 3 cars (including my classic Buick), 4 guitars, a bass guitar and a banjo, a decent (and growing) collection of firearms, and more paintball guns than anyone should logically own. I have a nice LED LCD TV, a 360, Wii, and Blu-Ray player. I manage to get what I want, and my tastes are gradually becoming simpler.
For money, I'm making $18 an hour, and they still call me underpaid at the shop. I can meet all my debts and make money faster than I can spend it, and as previously mentioned, enjoy doing it. I do have debts, but I can (and will) pay them off within a couple of paychecks.
For family life, sure, there's some friction between my father and I, but that's almost to be expected. I know he loves me, and I love him. My mother and I get along no problem. I wouldn't be where I am today without them, that's for sure. Yes, I do live at home, but it's an amicable arrangement, and advantageous for myself at the moment. I plan on finding my own place soon.
I accredit my good fortune to my family first and foremost, but I also think this place has helped me a lot. I've been here for 6 years now, I've seen a great deal of people get out on their own. I've seen their successes and mistakes, and learned from them. You all have been here to help me when I've had waves of depression, and kick me in the butt when I've had personal issues. Thanks for that. I like to call myself deist agnostic. I'm not sure if there is a god or what it's about, but if there is one out there, I'd like to thank it as well. Sometimes I simply feel as if my life couldn't have worked out this way on its own...
I'm just sitting here pondering this, and I wanted to say something. Mostly thanks, to you guys and anyone else who's been there for me.

For what it's worth, there's a big long line of people telling me that. I'm inclined to heed that advice...
Also, I'd like it to be known that I don't consider a collection of crap to be a meter for success. I consider my ability to live comfortably and enjoy what I'm doing to be that meter. It seems the fairer sex tends to be the bane for that trend. The fact that I'm currently single tends to back that point. :)

I wish I could say the same. I am working 70 hours a week for NONSENSE CRAP MONEY and all I want is one job at a decent amount that I can make the same off a normal maybe 50 hour week?
In fact, I don't even mind working 70+ hours a week if it was at one job. At least then I wouldn't get hassled for wanting a day off.

Grill Cook by day at a corporate account.
Line cook by night at Texas Roadhouse.
Yes I know not high paying career choice, but there are jobs that pay more than what I make. I would just like to find one.

What markers do you still own?

Cees, it's a midsized shop called Specialty MWD Supply. We only have about 20 machines, and it's a privately owned partnership, so I don't expect people to have heard of us. We have our own product line, and we're doing well for ourselves, I'm glad to say. I'm a mill guy. :)
SSOK, Thanks! I pretty much still own all of them except the Redux. I sold it for $1,200, as it was giving me trouble. To actually make a list would be a bit more time consuming than I'd like. ;)

Personally, nope, I have not heard of your company. But that does not mean one of the Creeps hasn't tried to sell your company a laser or waterjet. (waterjet is an excellent machine for making rough cuts so that mills spend less time grinding, cutting and wearing out tools.) Yu maybe a mill operator now, but you could try for something like a Applications engineer, a guy who demonstrates and instructs on mills, laser, waterjets, etc..

I'm actually in the same boat. I have an insanely easy job. My weekly pay isn't amazing, but I find ways to make extra money by throwing parties in popular venues and charging at the door. Best way to make money ever. Along with that I'm setting up to buy my 4th car, finally transferring to a school I want to be at with one of my closest friends and moving out of my house, having no lady problems (aside from a bit of a guilty conscience and some lingering feelings for my ex) and back to a workout routine.
Life's good right now.

Yeah man! I'm on dinner break (working evenings for now), and they have me doing repairs. I'm flattered, as that means they trust me not to bork up something that's already borked up. I've only got one chance to fix the part, so I've got to be on my A-game. It's moments like these that make me enjoy my gig.

When I was 22 I was moved out and making around $20-21 an hour. At 23 I met the love of my life, and at 27 I'm married, got a house payment (along with many other payments), and a 7 week old son. The money seems to disappear with time. I'm glad to see everything is looking up for you, but my one word of advice is try to start building a hefty savings account early. Thats the one thing I regret not doing.
P.S. even though you got cash, start building credit too. Just make sure to make every monthly payment

I agree with the credit thing. trust me, it's so nice to be 25 and have a credit score in the 750ish range. makes getting loans so much easier.

Perception is a funny thing. What you want out of life will make what you have either seem very important and personal or very worthless and impersonal. I know that most people wouldn't want my life, as it isn't glamorous by most peoples ideals. We all dream of wanting that big comfy chair and if I could find one I actually like sitting in, I'd take it. But for me, working with my hands and being on the ground in the thick of it has always felt like my true calling. Now, with the recent down turn of my knees and what feels like early onset arthritis, I need to start thinking about my future. I doubt I will see myself practicing law as in reality, I didn't feel like I was accomplishing much. I am sure I can find use for the degrees and military experience I have, so I will look that way. Despite everything that has happened to me injury wise, I will never blame my government or anyone else. I am a normal guy, and I have done abnormal and what some might call "inhumane" things but I always know it has been for a cause. Enjoy where you are if it is where you want to be, and if you aren't where you want to be make that future happen for yourself as nobody else will do it (willingly) for you.

I have never been more broke in my life, but that is fine.
If we are painstaking about this phase of our development,
we will be amazed before we are half way
through. We are going to know a new freedom and a
new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish
to shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will
know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see
how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and
selfpity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things
and gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away.
Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear
of people and of economic insecurity will leave us. We will
intuitively know how to handle situations which used to
baffle us. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us
what we could not do for ourselves.
Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They
are being fulfilled among us—sometimes quickly, sometimes
slowly. They will always materialize if we work
for them.

It's good to hear that you're doing well man.
I really should be hating life, but I guess just as a part of growing up, I've come to realize that I have alot to be thankful for. I have any material possession I want, I'm in good health, and even though I live with my sister, I have total freedom. I really wished college would fast forward, but honestly I'mt taking time to slow down and just enjoy life.
Except, my problems have matured. While now I couldn't care less about how girls view the fact I don't have a house and a Mercedes (darn you GroupB), I now notice my hairline has moved ever so slightly. Now I make paranoid measurements, and everytime I see scalp I freak out. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy as well .
I've just learned to do what I love and what I'm able to do at the moment, and not worry about what I can't do. If I find something I want, I do my best to make it happen, and if it doesn't, try harder next time. I think these life changing revelations are just part of growing up. Hormones die down, social pressure disappears, and suddenly you realize that you were just overdramatizing the whole thing. Life turns into that 5 minute period after sex when all is well with the universe.
Except balding. Screw balding.

As a serious answer, I'm grateful to know all of you and communicate with you all on a regular, or semi-regular basis.
I know that sort of seems weird, but logging on to this place is legitimately something I look forward to each day.

You...sold...the...Redux? I expected you to own nothing but the Redux.
Then again, I thought it was a bit um...silly to begin with. 'Twas a lot of money for a little aluminum.
Edit: I would really like a Redux or whatever marker you begin to make at your job. Its bound to happen at some point. You know... a free prototype sent my way wont hurt anybody. It will be advertieisment!

I'm a medical extern, and I don't make anything, which is odd because I had a relatively well paying gig prior to leaving for the hospital... But PCF promises me it'll be worth it.
And you can't not trust his face.

Oh hai blog post.
Life is good for Koolit, been out of prison for a little over 2 years, been completely clean/sober the whole time. Working at a pretty decent job making more than I thought I could be at this point, with good benefits to boot. Paying off debts, moved out of my parents house, got a new (to me) car. About to be a sophomore in college, 3.75 GPA at the moment, loving every minute of it. My relationship that started out a bit dysfunctional is totally coming around, very happy with it.
I honestly thought 2 years ago that my standards would have to be lowered substantially if I was ever going to be happy, I thought everything was going to be 10 times more difficult than it should be, but so far I appear to have been wrong.
