I have an interview tonight at a casino. It's a relattively trendy/fancy joint and the interview is for bar staff. Its a massive place as well.

Unless you're applying for a job shoveling horse manure, wear the suit. Especially if its a swank establishment.

QFE. Rule of thumb, if you ever need to ask the question "Suit or no suit", wear a suit. It never hurts to be over dressed. Being underdressed can easily cost you the job. Besides, it is a good excuse to get dressed up. KBK ------------- Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo. H = 2 |

I rarely go for the full suit, usually just dress shirt, a tie and chinos. I let the personality and the gab sell me. (I've oft been told I have a good talent for schmooze). You can dress down a little (No tie, no coat, etc.) but ironing with sharp creases is an absolute must if you do that. Lots of starch. But, I also admit that all of my interviews have been in Florida, and I think that slightly less is expected for business dress when it's 97* with high humidity.

interview done. I went with the suit in the end and i think it will have made a good impression. The second interview (if i get that far) is with the dirrector of the centre so deffo suit time for that one. As i left i saw one of the other guys waiting and he was a tad underdressed imo so hopefully if a few look like tramps like him i.ll be remembered for the right reasons compared to them.
One of the interview questions was actually 'is presentation important to you? How do you thinlk you should be presented qhen at work' so apparently they think its important. |

What's the suit look like, Scotchy? What did you have for the shirt/tie? I was out just earlier today picking up a bit more formal wear- two more shirts and ties, and finally a pair of cufflinks. :D ------------- "Abortion is not "choice" in America. a dark grey suit and i ruined my good white taylored shirt by trying to iron it. So i went with a black shirt with a black tied with a sort of embossed floral pattern. I wasn.t sure about it but its nice and fitted the mood of the place.
I.ve got a few sets of nice cufflinks but i have no shirts with the right cuffs. |

Dark grey as in charcoal grey coloured? A nice combo for that is a maroon dress shirt, with dark red/grey striped tie. That's exactly what I'm going with for my thing tonight. Charcoal grey suits are the best. You can do all kinds of stuff with them. Like someone said, unless you are shoveling manure wear a suit. Obviously it doesnt make a difference, but whatever. Of the two interviews I have been to, I wore a suit to my retail interview and I didnt have an interview at the junkyard. -------------

That's the way it seems. My first job out of college was at my old HS. After 3 years there, the guy they'd hired as a technology consultant hired me immediately after I found out the school was cutting my position. I know in theory how interviews work, but never have dealt with one. ------------- ? |

I've only had one actual job interview - for being a resident assistant, like Reb said. I've had quite a few interviews for scholarships and grants and such.
