Sleep with as many women as possible while in the dorms, you'll never have an environment like that again.

Growin' Up
Well I stood stone-like at midnight suspended in my masquerade
And I combed my hair till it was just right and commanded the night brigade
I was open to pain and crossed by the rain and I walked on a crooked crutch
I strode all alone into a fallout zone, came out with my soul untouched
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd, when they said "sit down" I stood up
Ooh, ooh, growin' up
The flag of piracy flew from my mast, my sails were set wing to wing
I had a jukebox graduate for first mate, she couldn't sail but she sure could sing
And I pushed B-52 and bombed 'em with the blues with my gear set stubborn on standing
I broke all the rules, strafed my old high school, never once gave thought to landing
I hid in the clouded warmth of the crowd, when they said "come down" I threw up
Ooh, ooh, growin' up
Lookin' back, now!
I took month-long vacations in the stratosphere and you know it's really hard to hold your breath
Swear I lost everything I ever loved or feared, I was the cosmic kid in full costume dress
But my feet they finally took root in the earth but I got me a nice little place in the stars
And I swear I found the key to the universe in the engine of an old parked car
I hid in the mother breast of the crowd, when they said "pull down" I pulled up
Ooh, ooh, growin' up
Ooh, ooh, growin' up
Hoohoo...........
Enjoy life now, for it does not last forever, but remember any seed you plant today will usually haunt you for the next 18 years, just a piece of advice. Just don't let your little head do your thinking for ya.

Growing up and growing old in some cases can be two different things. It's hilarious when they don't coincide.

Wear a condom.
Prop your door open for the first couple of days/beyond that. No easier way to meet the people on your hall than just stopping by to say hi.

I'm about to do the same in a week, except I'm a third year student. I'm just transferring from one campus to another. Best thing is that I'm rooming with one of my closest friends.
Anyone got any ideas for things to get for a dorm beyond the obvious bedding, bathroom stuff, and kitchen items?

I went to a local community college so I'm not familiar with dorm life but what about security of personal information? Like a safe and a document shredder for unused documents with personal info.
I was always into fish tanks when I was younger. It seemed like it was always a big hit with the chicks looking back. I did pirhanas for quite a long time but they are messy and tough to feed. Salt water is very expensive so I opted for African siclids. They offer the best fresh water colors and variety IMO and you feed them flake or pellet food so they are fairly easy/cheap to take care of and don't create a huge mess in the tank. South American siclids eat too much and are messy. Especially when you feed them gold fish. IMO a 55 gallon tank is the minimum tank size to make it worth the effort. Anything less is just kind of blah

Be careful living with a close friend! Keep in mind you don't really know who they are till you live with them. I lived with one of my closest friends last year and we definitely are no longer as close as we used to be.

This. I let a friend live with me while their house was flooded and I realy havnt talked to them since.
So, I found something interesting last night: if you play madden 12 in the commons in a gumby costume you attract a ton of attention. Haha.

The time will fly by, you'll be done in 4 years wondering where it all went
Just remember, go to class, go to class, go to class.
The more you skip the easier it gets not to go, and when professors see you attend class they're more likely to be lenient when things come up.

You don't need to write down everything, just the main points. If you pay attention and keep the main ideas written down you should be able to recall everything from memory when you're studying. If not, it makes it easy to look it up. That way forces you to remember stuff rather than just rereading the same text over and over and hoping it sticks.
(I became a much better student later in my college years)

Hey, up here you have a very good chance of getting a decent job after that course. So you might not have a problem getting a girl who wants a guy with a stable career?

Sometimes it just doesn't even matter. I was literally successful once just by saying "well thats cool, I love getting ______" She looked at her friend, who nodded, and off we went.
Also, learning to learn is the biggest skill you can acquire sometimes. You dont know EVERYTHING, but you need to know how to obtain the information you don't have. Not knowing is okay, not finding out isn't.

Just accept the fact now that you will change your major at least once.Take easy / pointless generals online if your school offers them (but don't forget to actually do the work). The more online classes you take, the more free time you have to do whatever you would like.
Summer courses. Local community colleges, online classes, or other colleges in your home town are easy ways to do this (and chances are you can transfer the credits).
Join clubs, and don't be afraid to step outside your boundary and try something new. Clubs and organizations are great ways to meet new people, find new hobbies and above all else have fun.

I taught my first class last night.
I was nervous for the first 10 minutes or so, then it all smoothed out.

You shouldn't have been nervous, the students obviously would be in total awe of your beard, thus giving you plenty of time to settle into a routine without them noticing any mistakes.
Also, I think you should work paintball into one of your lectures at some point. That'd really blow their minds.
