Wasn't the .30x06 designed to be able to shoot through someone with the hope that it could also go through the dude and hit another dude?(That's what I understood at least, but I just shoot guns... ballistics are beyond me) I was under the impression that that was why we adopted .30x06 back in the WWI days. Great show though, watched the marathon(which started out great... got a bit too chatty during the middle of it though... still good though)

.30-06 and most calibers of the time were designed in a day when you had to worry about cavalry. A FMJ .30-06 certainly would have passed through. Also, older soft point designs don't exactly expand like modern projectiles (Hornady, Barnes, Swift), which typically have bonded cores, tapered jackets and maybe a ballistic tip. Cheap soft points typically either don't expand too much, but I haven't tested the newer versions. The show doesn't exactly break new ground, but it's still a must-watch for me.

This thread officially needs a spoiler warning, just sayin'.
I think that the intent of the writers was to imply that he did it to save the kid, but they left just enough room that it might be revealed later he's just a dick.
I like Shane. He and the redneck boondock saint are the show's only real three dimensional characters that I see progressing beyond their role. It's too early to really tell what Shane's intentions are, but he was definitely tormented by his decision. I think personally it was a move of cowardice-he just used Otis to buy himself time that, as Tallen pointed out, he didn't even need. But then again...extraordinary circumstances and whatnot.
Oh, and the old guy that looks out for the suicidal girl is the most obnoxious, predictable character I've seen on a show in a while, and she's a narcissistic douche nozzle. Rick's wife is barely more tolerable, and to be honest Rick kind of gets on my nerves as well. They need to really move on and give the characters a chance to develop.

Every time I start to like Shane, he starts screwing up. Also the whole "wahh the girl is missing" ordeal is getting on my nerves. It is time to find her dead or alive.
I would like a little more of a "Dawn of the Dead 1978" feel to it, where Shane or someone clubs a zombie to death rather than one zombie being a near total predator. Rotting corpses should not be as nimble and strong as a 23 year old in shape male.

So, Cherokee Rose sucked.
Up for discussion-
The well scene was stupid. If blood contaminated the water, a rotting decomposing zombie did it regardless of whether he was shot or not. To risk manpower to close up a well when there are several others was a cheap excuse to show a zombie explode. Also, everyone just sort of assuming the Asian would make himself zombie bait was pretty awkward it could have only been more awkward if the zombie they were noosing up turned out to be black.
Also, did anyone else but me secretly hope the zombie turned out to be Otis?
If you get rid of the sex scene and the well zombie, you're stuck with pointless dialogue about subjects we've been dealing with since the little girl ran away. To add, that conflict needs to be resolved within the next episode or it's going to stagnate. In a post apocalyptic world, I doubt the search would still be going.
Herehel's desire to disarm everyone is arguable. Which it comes off as stupid, I think he at least suspects that Shane isn't on the level. Still, it came across as silly, especially after the zombie in the well.
I thunk next episode will be better, with the inevitable invasion of the farm and the return of last season's biggest loose end. This one was just clunky and pointles, reinforcing what everyone already knew. Daryl is, once again, the least static character on the show, and I really hope he doesn't get killed off like we expect from tough guy loners in these shows.

How many Zombies were in the last episode?
One.
This is becoming a soap opera in a survival situation. Shane shouldn't have knocked up the girl (whoose name I cannot remember). I mean, really, that was all in the past and her being pregnant is only a wrench to throw into the drama machine. Merle should not have shown up, since he had no way of knowing where they were going. Most survival groups would have given up on the girl, if not even to go so far as murdering the old guy.
I would have been happy if they found/gave up on the girl in Cherokee Rose, and prepared to move on towards Ft. Benning. Season two is murdering a good series.

THIS. I understand what they were trying to do, be the artsy zombie show that's focuses on the human element. In fact, this is what I've heard from all the fans of the show, how revolutionary it is to focus on human characters and use the zombies as a backdrop. I'm assuming these people have never seen the original Night of the Living Dead, the original and remake Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days / Weeks Later, so on and so forth. Zombie movies have never been solely about zombies, they've always been cultural / humanitarian commentaries. I was looking forward to the survival aspect of the show post-CDC, in fact it's why I was all giddy for a year straight after buying the first season Blu Ray and polishing it off in one sitting. Then I get here, they casually stumble upon a safehouse in the second episode, and now we have cheatin' wives, pregnancies, missing people, so on and so forth. The worst part is that the characters aren't even really that interesting, which makes the storytelling even more dull. Leave the character dramas to Mad Men. Maybe the problem is that they're following the comic so closely. I really don't know, but I hope they return to the format of the first season soon because this on is losing my attention rapidly.

Some real quick observations on a slightly better episode than last week- Glenn is the least smooth operator on the planet. When girls say "not even if you were the last man alive", they meant him in the most literal sense possible.
Unlikeable groups of characters only work on comedies. In a drama, especially a soap opera like this, it kills the suspense.
The arrow scene was completely cringe worthy in a good way, and reaffirmed that Darryl is the still best character on the show.
Shane is right, Rick is a pansy. No matter how bad the writers try to paint Shane, you could kill off everyone but him and Darryl and I'd still watch the show.
Dale needs to lower the medication. "What were you thinking?" Maybe that he hasn't reached an age where his libido and bowel control have dropped to that of two year old?
If Andrea had killed Darryl, I would have literally stopped watching the show.
HOLY CRAP THEY SAID THE N WORD.
K, so I'm assuming that Hershel is keeping all of his relatives / neighbors in that barn in hopes of a cure? That or he has the most bizarre sexual fetish since David Carradine. Overall the Darryl scenes saved this episode from being as bad as last week's, and it was nice to here Shane say what everyone else is thinking, but it doesn't take away from the fact that NOTHING IS HAPPENING. We're still mulling over the pregnancy and the little girl, we're still enforcing Andrea's attitude problems with Dale, and Glenn is screwing up a commitment free booty call in the apocalypse.
Lastly, is it just me, or does this farm keep producing new extras? Maybe I'm just not very observant, but I don't remember the blonde little girl or the 17 year old who's lived in the country and doesn't know how to shoot a gun.

Agreed on the extra -breeding farm, maybe they'll be like the new guy on Star Trek and be killed almost every time?
I'm hoping they save Dale's death for the season finale, and they're making him obnoxious just to make it easier to kill him off. It better be brutal. Glenn also needs to die, he's a turd and we can now think he won't die with his v-card. I agree with the characters being unlikeable in general, but the thing that keeps it believable to me is that if I were to consider the people I know who are like them, or to be stuck in a survival situation with a bunch of random people I know (let's say any random dozen people I'm friends w/ on FB) chances are good that a good portion of them would be total tools. I literally know guys as useless as Glenn, as obnoxious as Dale, and as shifty as Shane, or worse. I just choose not to spend too much time with those people for obvious reasons. Part of the charm of the post-apocalyptic theme is being forced to group together out of mutual necessity instead of the choices we're allowed in a more stable society. If most of us were to be stuck in a survival situation with co-workers, people you ride a city bus with, and maybe one or two people you previously knew well, you'd have as many unbearable characters. The writers need to focus more on the ones who are actually interesting, and leave the rest as filler and zombie-fodder.

Guys, please post comic book related stuff in white or something.
This episode is better, but still is dissappointing. I like Glenn personally, but the whole mulling around the farm bit is getting annoying.
Id be happy if in the next episode they found the girl, walkers invaded, and the convoy moved out with a few people dieing and a few farm people coming and a few others heading a seperate way.

Holy crap this.
It would take me an hour to write how perfect that episode's ending was, and as predictable as it seemed, I didn't see it coming.
The writers took a huge gamble with that storyline and, as far as I'm concerned, it paid off and then some. I haven't been hit that hard by a reveal since the Sopranos.

As much as I disliked the slow pace, it did very well to increase tension throughout the season. Yes, we knew about every conflict from the moment it happened, but the gradual reveals to the characters kept things moving and became more intense with each revelation.
This episode would not have been so good had it been the 3rd or 4th. It started with some great dialogue and replicated the season with slow moments in the middle to build up to the finale. Yes, it sucked that we had this crummy drama for the past two months. Given this episode, the pacing of everything else makes sense.

This is actually one of the things that has me po'ed at the series. We've seen the military presence outside the CDC and in downtown Atlanta, so there should be more than enough military grade weapons and ammo scattered around, but these guys are still wandering around with bolt-action hunting rifles and sporting shotguns. You can't tell me that the Sheriff and his deputy don't have the presence of mind to be picking up all that extra ordinance in their travels.
Also, saw the ending of this past episode coming a mile away.

Not much to add except that this is an excellent show. With this, Justified and Game of Thrones, TV has some of the best shows it's ever had. Too bad the best TV show that was ever made (Deadwood, BTW) was cancelled early. I still haven't gotten over that, nor will I ever.

True Blood was alright when it first started. I feel like it has become a bit goofy.
As for shows that were canceled too early....Firefly.... (Yes, I still feel sad about this).
I still like to watch Dexter, HIMYM, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family and The Walking Dead.

I try to find at least a couple of tv shows to watch during school to give me cheap entertainment.
Picked up the second season of justified yesterday, thinking about shelling out the expense to get Deadwood on Blu Ray as well.
I love Mad Men but still haven't gotten past the first few episodes, tried Sons of Anarchy and may get back into it, and I may pick up Breaking Bad. There's a shockingly large library of good tv I missed out on.
Oh, I try not to miss It's Always Sunny. Genius comedy right there.

Hopefully the end of this episode also marks the end of the slow crawl we've been on.
I was glad to see Rick finally come off as an actually badass rather than the character he's been playing the whole second season. Nice to see him grow a pair.
Also, my DVR caught the opening of the Kevin Smith comic book show...kinda makes me want to record it.

Oh, I try not to miss It's Always Sunny. Genius comedy right there. | You can NEVER go wrong with Deadwood. I still rewatch it, over and over and over again. I'm a big Justified fan too, Raylan Givens is one bad dude, the second season is wayyy better than the first, enjoy it.
As for the Walking Dead, that scene in the bar was sweet, kind of made up for the slow pace of the rest of the episode. I also agree that I hope this signals the start of the pace picking back up again. When's the last time they were ambushed by walkers? Not counting the Barnageddon scene, they've been living this happy little utopian farm dream for a while now, I want to see some more walkers dammit!

I liked Rick in this episode, its almost like hes fed up with everyone's whining and had to take it out on somebody. Although I agree with Shane's survival attitude, he was still a narcissistic douche-bag for the past few episodes. Kinda getting tired of him.

On tonight's episode: Thank god. I've been waiting for that to happen all season and most of last season.

I hope Carl is going to get an attitude adjustment and the other guy (Dale?) was getting annoying. I like his whole "voice of reason' motive but annoying is an understatement.

I haven't watched the episode yet, but a nurse at work spoiled it for me when she yelled out "OMG SOMEONE JUST SPOILED DALE GETTING KILLED ON WALKING DEAD WHAT A <EXPLETIVE>!" Anyway, no worries there, I absolutely hated Dale. Really and honestly, I'm starting to dislike most of the characters on the show. I keep half expecting Rick to flip them the bird and go do his own thing. Worst group of people to be stuck with in the apocalypse this side of an occupy movement.

It has been a long time since I have been this happy with the death of a TV character. Hopefully that annoying blond is next. She wouldn't be as bad if she could act.

I personally liked the guy they killed off, but I understand he had already died in the comic (thanks Tallen ) so I'm not that hurt.

Obligatory everyone is already infected so it doesn't matter how they die, they become zombies no matter what.
