The many faces of fear at a haunted house

Halloween is coming up soon and we have the perfect slideshow for this season of frights and fear. Much like snowflakes, no two people seem to react to a good scare the same way.

Same here. I'm the guy that ruins it for everyone by cracking jokes the whole time.

Also, is it just me, or does Spider-Man guy look like a young Will Ferrel?

Probably a little of both to most people. I think that some people hype themselves up really hard about the immediate scares (things jumping out at you) and so when it happens they kind of freak out. I don't think anyone actually finds them scary on a mental level, other than children.

I've read elsewhere that at this part it's like a car or something comes speeding towards you and stops at the last second, so it's a "holy crap something jumped" scary reaction.

Halloween Horror Nights ruined what a haunted house is for me.

While I don't really care for HHN because of the cost, having a major movie company use their set and prop designers, makeup experts, and sound/lightning crews to build haunted houses means they are legitimately scary. At least more-so than goofy thrown-together ones where a cardboard Frankenstein lifts out of a casket.

I'm more annoyed by them than scared. Because anyone can get someone to jump by leaping out of the dark and yelling 'BOO!' Its surprise more than fear.
Although, the one thing I did see that freaked the HELL out of me was at a wax museum in Salem. There's a display of what one of the cells back during the witch trials looked like, with a few figures in there. One of them, a woman in a hooded robe was just on the other side of the glass....and she wasn't wax. Just as you got near enough to look in, rather than jump up and yell "WARBLE GARBLE!" to scare you, she just held her hand up to the glass in a 'Help me' gesture. It got everyone. Completely unexpected, and beautifully executed. I'll never forget that one.

Most else is....eh.

I enjoy the really well done ones.

near me, there's a haunted corn field that has a huuuge zombie pirate set up every year.  it's fun because you'll be in a pretty narrow path through the corn field and turn a corner to a huge pirate ship set up with a bunch of actors all lit up.  The whole thing isn't really scary, but its something different that some of the indoor ones i've been to.
