I started attending D-Day back in 2002, but each year
is a new experience, so even first time players have nothing to worry about. Register early (hopefully with one of the allied units), bring a water bladder and some
extra long tent stakes, if you're planning to bring a
tent that is.
Anyone who is coming as part of a group might also
check with 'Crazy Debbies Fireworks if they're looking
for a heavy duty tent and if you're bringing a camper
you better get in touch with the Bunker before all the
camper spots are rented out. BTW, they also have a
few upgraded Class A spots available as well.
Folks who are looking to camp get to use the showers,
just be aware the water smells like sulfer. That said,
once you dry off the smell goes away.
With regards to food, there's two places in the vendor
area where you can sit down and enjoy a good meal.
The D-Day Cafe serves a decent breakfast and good
hamburgers, while Phil's Grill is better known for their
brats, steaks, sweet tea and ice cream smoothies.
DXS is the prime sponsor this year and they'll be offering two grades of paint. Sorry, I don't have the prices yet.
For those coming for the first time, try and keep these
hints in mind.
1. You will be worn out well before the end of the event,
so if you're not fit now's the time to start getting yourself in better shape.
2. If you'd like to do more than follow the pack, let the
person in charge of the unit you join know that so they
can find a job best suited to your experience. If you're
bringing someone who doesn't plan to play, ask the
folks in charge of your unit if there isn't something they can do to help.
3. If you want to join one of the special units, like the
US Rangers, you need to be there by Wednesday so you
can take part in the Obstacle Course. Don't worry you'll
pass regardless of the shape you're in, but don't use
that as an excuse for not working out.
4. If you or your group has a tank, you'll pretty much
be able to write your own ticket when it comes to which
side wants you. Both sides have not just Tank units,
but also Tank Killer units. On the Allied side that'd be
their 899th Tank Destroyers, not sure what the Germans
call theirs. Both sides also have a Airborne Units, but
don't worry no one has to actually jump to qualify.
5. This event is a multi-day event. By that I mean they
start holding 3-4 hour long mini sceanrios on the Monday
before the main event. At present they're looking at
making one or more of these events count towards the
final score, so unless they decide not to do that the
more events your side wins, the better the odds are that
you'll also come out as the overall winners.
6. If you've always wanted to take part in a night event,
there's one on Thursday evening that'll satisfy even the
most die hard player. Smoke, parachute flares and lots
and lots of paint, plus upwards to 2,000 players fighting over a two story church, a pair of strip malls and dozens of bunkers make this the ultimate night game
opportunity.
I'd go on, but you get the idea, or at least I hope you
do. If you've got questions, please don't hesitate to write or call.
Sincerely,
Andy Van Der Plaats

Because I've been asked to explain what various units in the Allied Army do, I'm posting some of the more unique units and what their missions are.
If you've got questions about any of these units, or the others which make up our force, please let me know.
502nd Military Police Company Special registration/check-in: To borrow from the Masons - 2b1 ask1. It's not really that cryptic, but as you cannot buy a ticket that says 502 MPs on it, contact Superdad and he'll tell you how to register. O-Course required: No Special Equipment needed: None Engagement area: The MPs have always landed on Utah beach with the Blackcats, the 2nd Armor, and the 4th ID. Description: The 502nd Military Police company is a small (20 or so players max.) effective unit that stays together both on and off the field. It has missions both in and outside the game, and is very family friendly -- The unit was started by a dad and his 2 sons and now includes another father/2 sons family as well as other individuals. For the short history of the 502nd MPs, the Company has been in the 2nd Armored Division chain of command. For 2012 the MPs have been reassigned to the SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary Force) reporting directly to SAC (Supreme Allied Commander) (Thanks to 'Superdad' for this description)
OSS Special registration/check-in: Must be 15 or older. Also must be vetted by OSS Staff before registering. O-Course required: NO.
OSS field training will be provided. Special Equipment needed: Some. A combat loadout list will be provided to the individuals selected. Engagement area: Starting points vary but always deployed behind enemy lines at game on. Will be tasked with multiple mission objectives and with covering the entire field. Description: The OSS is one of the smallest Allied units and operates along the lines of a LRRP Company (as developed during the Vietnam war.) We provide recon, intel, and QRF assets reporting directly to the SAC. The OSS has a very high percentage of current and prior military personnel and the attitudes within the unit reflect that background – i.e. we have very high expectations of our team members.
82nd Pathfinders Special registration/check-in: Must be 15 or older. O-Course required: Yes Special Equipment needed: No. Engagement area: Starting point varies. Will be asked to cover the entire field. Description: We don't know exactly where we would be dropped, but once dropped, expect to work hard and hump some of the toughest terrain at D-day (Steep slopes covered with fist sized rocks covered with leaves and areas of dense brush). If you register with the 82nd or 82nd PF expect missions and objectives to be anywhere on the 700+ acre field. We will be outnumbered, surrounded and most definitely behind German lines. We pride ourselves on teamwork and out-of-the box thinking. Some people call us a little goofy - and we are. You'll experience some of the most intense paintball you can imagine, while having a great time all week. You'll get to meet lots of new friends. It doesn't matter if you're woodsball, speedball, or milsim, there is a place for you. Alan Davidson Commanding Officer, US 82nd Pathfinders

$80 for a week of your favorite hobby isnt bad at all if you ask me, for the last 18 years I've raced motocross. If i went to a national race which was 3 days, the entry fee alone was usually about 80, plus race fees were about $80 per class (i usually rode 2 or 3) then i think practice fees were about $25 per class, then throw in all the bike maintenance costs, food, fuel, and equipment... It was easy to spend 1k in a weekend, and you only got about 2hrs of actual ride time per class, so... I like this alot better... Granted, paint does get a little pricey, but even if your on a tight budget, you have alot of time to save money, thats just my .02, other people might not think it's worth it, but I cant wait! Plus... it cant get more fun that running around in the woods shooting at your friends...
mobile, agile, hostile...

I wanted to take this opportunity to point out one of the aspects which makes the Oklahoma D-Day Event unique.
At most scenario games people show up knowing which side they're going to be on, but that's about it. If they've been appointed as the General, they know they'll be in charge and there are always a few others who know they'll be the General's aids, but beyond that the depth of either side is left to be determined just before the game starts.
At D-Day, at least when it comes to the Allied side, we've created 17 unique units, each represents a unit which actually took part in the 1944 landings in Normandy. Each is led by a seasoned player who knew a year in advance what he'd be doing as the horn sounds. As the CO of that unit, he's also determined who his XO, S-3 and so on are. If the unit is large enough, it's also been split up into various Companys, again just as it was in 44.
Why does all this matter, afterall this is just another paintball game? Well if matters because when you have between 3-4 thousand players scattered over close to 800 acres, you want to maintain some sort of organization. You want to know where you need to go as you come out of the dead zone and you also want to know if that player on the right and left of you is going to stick with you when you make that charge on the enemy's position.
This is why D-Day is more than just a game. It's a chance to take part in the largest event of its kind and at the same time it's also an opportunity to see what it was like to be part of the largest sea and air invasion ever staged.
Come and join us for D-Day and be a part of history. Join forces with hundreds of others who've come to Wyandotte for a chance to be part of this history making paintball event.

This morning I'd like to go into a little more detail about one of the Allied Armies most important units, the 899th Blackcats Tank Destroyers. Back in WWII the 899th mainly used tracked vehicles, like the M10 Wolverene to knock out German tanks, but at D-Day that mission falls to small teams of players.
The 899th still has many positions available and to help explain them I'm going to post a brief rundown which was posted over on the official D-Day forum by one of the 899th's members, Lt. Ozzy. ~~~~~~~~ 899th Blackcat Tank Destroyers Battalion (TDB)
The most common position is the 'AT gunner.' He/she carries a semi automatic marker that is encased in a pvc shell so that it looks like the British P.I.A.T. or the American Bazooka, which is about 3 feet long. Instead of using a hopper on this weapon we use a 10 round cylindrical tube filled with Anti-Tank paint, which is a different color from the cases of paint sold at DDay. These gunners are trained all week on how to set themselves up for a perfect shot on a tanks killplate. Like one of the gunners said, people yell tank and hide, Blackcats hear tank and pounce into "attack mode."
Working with the AT gunner is the rest of his/her fireteam. They are considered his/her infantry support. They're trained in the art of keeping all eyes off of their gunner, including the tanks eyes. This can mean anything from putting down suppressive fire to literally running across the street to draw attention away from their gunner. They will die before the guy/gal carrying a tube if they have too.
Its a swell group to be a part of and I'm proud when I tell people I'm a Blackcat.
Hope this informed y'all about what we offer on the field.
Any other questions, I'll be glad to answer.
1st LT Ozzy Out
"Spartans! Prepare for glory!" 2010 = 899th TDB, Charlie Company 2011 = 899th TDB, Charlie Company XO (1st LT) 2012 = 899th TDB,

What could be better than going over the top as a

Due to recent events it now seems that the 325th PIR has just lost an entire platoon. So we will need to fill that void, though unlike some units we will be able to fill the Officer and most of the NCO slots from within our returning members.
We will still need players to fill out the new platoon. The 325th will also be open to dissatisfied players from other units, though only following the commanders advance discussion with the prospective loosing commander, as would be the courteous thing to do!

Once again, the Commonwealth will be hosting a military style full auto shoot at OK D-Day 2012. The shoot will be held on Wednesday, June 13 and is open to everyone at OK D-Day 2012. It will start at about 9:30 AM and will end at about 2:30 PM. The convoy to the range will leave the Commonwealth compound at 9:00 AM, so don't be late. Please bring your own vehicle or make arrangements to ride with someone. You may also want to bring something to drink or eat. The rain date will be Thursday June 14. This shoot is open to anyone 12 years old and older. Minors under 18 years old MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No Exceptions. Please don't ask if 11 years and 11 months is close enough, because it isn't. Have proof of age, just in case the question comes up. A legal guardian must be authorized by law and documented by the court to represent the minor in all decisions pertaining to the minor. The father of a friend or older sibling is not good enough. The father of a friend or older sibling holding a temporary legal guardianship document from a court of law is perfect. For 2012, the cost to preregister is $85 and you have to buy the rounds on site. The preregistration fee allows you to shoot any of the weapons offered. Preregistration will close out on May 1. If you know you’re going to be there, go ahead and register. At the event, we will take all walk-on shooters at $100 each, cash only. Please try to bring exact cash. The cost of the rounds is extremely reasonable and offsets the initial registration fee. Rounds are cash only. You may not bring your own real steel or bullets, but you can show up and take all the pics and video you want, at no charge. This year, we are offering belt fed weapons and an AR50 .50 cal sniper rifle and we are trying to offer an M2 .50 Cal. HB. We do feature various household appliances, boats and cars for the shooters to blow up. Yes, I said BLOW UP. If you wish to do any kneeling, squatting or prone shooting, bring some sort of pad. There will be no off-hand or Rambo style shooting. Anyone found to be acting in an irresponsible manner will have their shooting day terminated, their rounds confiscated and they will be escorted off of the range, without a refund of any kind. These are the prices for last year, but they shouldn't be too much different for this year. I will post up the current prices on belt fed rounds and loose rounds, as soon as I know them. Please don’t comment on whether you could buy the rounds cheaper than anyone else or that you were/are in the military and you had enough of shooting. This is the man’s living. If you have a Class III license, a couple of machine guns and 10,000 rounds at $.001 each, then lucky you. Here are the 2011 weapons and bullet prices. AK47, AK74, M16, M4, M14, STG58/FAL, AC556/Mini14, MP5, M1 Carbine, M11A1/MAC11 with suppessor, M60, FN30/M1919, Thompson .45, RPD, Sten, Scorpion, AR50. 45acp 30rd mag, $20.00 9mm 30rd mag $15.00 30 carb. 20rd mag $15.00 30carb 30rd mag $20.00 308 20rd mag $20.00 762x39 30rd mag $15.00 223 30rd mag $20.00 223 20 rd mag $15.00 .50 Cal $5.00 each belt fed prices RPD 50rd belt $30.00 M60 50rd belt $50.00 30 cal 50rd belt $50.00 Preregister for the FAS and you’ll automatically be entered into a drawing for your money back and receive either a 20 round mag, in the caliber of your choice or three .50 cal rounds. Registrations, comments or questions must be submitted by EMAIL to CEFSales@hotmail.com. PMs will not be answered and negative thread comments will be deleted. Please include the names of the shooters, ages, one good contact phone number and whether you would prefer to pay by PayPal, check or M.O. All registrations must be submitted and paid in full by May 1. Cheers

With just under 4 months to go the Allied staff has already been busy holding planning sessions and one of the things that's first on everyone's mind is how are we doing, recruiting wise. I could spell out where things stand, but since this is an open forum I'm afraid all I can say is that we're ahead of where we were last year. Does that mean you have to pick a unit and sign up tomorrow? Hardly, but it wouldn't hurt to start looking a little closer. We are also putting out a call for tanks, as well as for mechanized players and tank killers who want to see what it's like to face off against the vaulted might of the German Armor Corps.
If you've got questions, or would just like to chat about what you can expect when you get there, feel free to give my office a call. I'm available pretty much every day starting at 0600hrs and I'm generally still here till around 2000hrs. Official D-Day site: http://www.ddaypark.com Sincerely,

Also wanted to bring to everyone's attention some details about the one Allied Army unit that stands above the rest when it comes to what they bring to D-Day. This unit is our O.S.S. (Office of Strategic Services).
Back in WW II the OSS was a unit which conducted special operations missions not just in Europe, but in places like SE Asia, Korea, and Africa. At the end of WW II Trumann shut down the OSS, but it didn't take long for him to realize he needed their skills to counter what the Russians were doing so they formed a new unit to do many of the same things and called it the CIA.
Out in Oklahoma we've merged what the OSS and CIA do and given them some pretty tough missions. If you think you've got what it takes to be a part of this special unit, let me know and I'll tell you how to get in touch. Here's a look at what they're looking for. Office of Strategic Services (OSS)
Office of Strategic Services, or colloquially known as OSS, is the Allied Force's premier special missions unit. OSS performs, but is not limited to:
1. Long Range Reconnaissance 2. Raids 3. Augmentation of main combat forces 4. Psychological operations
Successful candidates have one or more of the following attributes: former or current Army (11B, 11Z, 18 series), Air Force (1C4X1, 1C2X1) and Marine (0311, 0321-0369), 5+ years of paintball experience, high physical fitness (must be able to carry a minimum of 30 lbs over rough terrain), climbing ability, very intelligent with high procedural knowledge. You must be able to eat a full spool of razor wire during a static line jump. Upon completing that, you will need to go three minutes in the ring with every person in the unit after drinking aviation fuel and crawling through broken glass. Yep, it's not easy having a good time.
While the criteria is high, there is no harm in contacting us. Criteria are weighed differently for each person.
Most important: BE HONEST.
Nothing sucks more than coming out to Oklahoma and realizing you're not prepared to play hard.
As of 2012, we will not accept applications for couples (boyfriend- girlfriend, husband-wife, etc). There have been negative performance issues associated with this combination. Feel free to being your significant other along, but keep in mind that only one of you will be allowed to play under OSS.
If you think you got what it takes, contact Andy and include a POC address/phone.

As you're viewing this clip keep these facts in mind. This team has been around now for 10 years, the people who make up this unit on that team have been traveling down to Oklahoma from their home base in Canada now for 5 years. The event they want you to join them for has been going on now for 15 years. How much more needs to be said to convince you that this is the team for you and that this is the event to join them at? The CEF is by far and away the largest paintball team in the world, with members here in the US, Canada, UK, France, Holland, Australia, New Zealand to name just a few.
Join the Commonwealth and become part of the brotherhood of fun loving, risk taking paintball players, the likes of which you've never seen.

A great introduction to what the 4th Infantry Division players face as those ramps drop. Also dispells all that talk about how the Germans are at such a great disadvantage, given they're outnumbered and all.

For those who've never been or played at D-Day here's some useful information from one of members in the 82nd Ab 505TH Regiment.
If you want to know how much gas is going to cost you, use this website. Enter in your vehicle info and it will give you a pretty accurate estimate on how much gas will cost you. Figure out what it costs to fill your car from empty to full. For instance, to fill my car, which has a 17.5 gallon tank, it's right around $50-60 depending on gas prices. (15 gallons or so useable, account for fumes) Basically you want to over estimate a little bit, because you will be making trips from the campsite to the adjacent towns to pick up supplies, food, water, etc. We made several trips over the course of the week. It isn't necessary, but I didn't mind going into town for comfort items.
http://gasbuddy.com/Trip_Calculator.aspx
For me, I used about two cases the whole week. I played in almost every game last year However, I'm also very conservative. Also our group didn't really bunker in, we moved a lot. So I have a preference of having a light loadout. Basically I used a case for all the mini scenario games, and I used a case for the big D-Day game.
Your playing style, and your objectives will determine how much paint you'll be slinging all week.
Food for us wasn't too bad, the first year we lived on ramen & eggs. 2nd year we brought some meat, visited more with our unit, and we ate a little better. But still, eggs and ramen were a staple food. Along with granola bars, and jerky. I did however indulge and eat at the cafe & Phil's grill. (Phil's grill is AMAZING btw, and prices aren't all that bad)
Anyways, gas split 3 ways last year in my car came out to like $80 or something a person, water is really cheap, maybe $10-15 for water (a person) for the whole week by buying gallon jugs. We're doing it better this year, I got 3 7-gallon aquatainers for water supply. Should save us money. I spent close to $200 in toys, all together with purchasing paint, my d-day ticket, it was about $500-600.
Thanks for this information goes to "Spartan sui"

Ok, we've been posting clips, stories and the like now since right after everyone got back this past June. Now with just under 90 days to go before the 15th Anniversary edition of D-Day kicks off it's time to get registered and into fighting shape.
Are you in with us, or are you going to sit by the sidelines? The Allied Army is gearing up for a war, a paintball war of epic proportions and it's calling on you for your help.
Become a player in this history making event and claim your rightful share of the winners bragging rights.
Got questions about which unit suits you best, how much it's all going to cost, or where to camp, drop me a line or give my office a call.
Sincerely,
------------- Brigadier General Andy Van Der Plaats

Just learned that the Bunker now offers a special registration deal for groups of players who are willing to sign up at the same time.
Call the Bunker and register 4 players and get 1 more member in for FREE. The key to taking advantage is to CALL the Bunker rather than by registering online.

Finally wrapped up the March E-Zine Edition. Loads of clickable links to some rather unique YouTube videos, plus a couple to much longer D-Day related films.
As always, I can use more of your input, articles and of course more photos and video clips. Got something you'd like to share, send it along, or give me a call so we can discuss it. Hopefully after the April edition is wrapped up I'll begin laying out the June 'print' edition.' If you're a vendor and you'd like to get a jump start on placing your ad, please get in touch as soon as it's convenient.

The Pathfinders do whatever is needed of us at D-Day. We are Special Forces in a nut shell. We are all over the field from game on until game over. We take our jobs serious and never have we not accomplished a mission. When the SAC says take Omaha beach, we take Omaha beach, when he says take a bridge, the bridge is taken, when he says help take Utah beach, we take Utah beach. If he says take any objective on the field, we take it. We are fast moving, hard charging, get the job done guys. We are the best of the best at D-day.
We also have the most fun during the week than most folks. we camp together in 6 of the RV slots and are known for our great times during the week.
If there was an official abstract for the "Life of a 101st Pathfinder", this would be it. We work hard and play hard.

June is almost here! Have you signed up yet? The Commonwealth is looking for troops to take Sword Beach, Caen and Pegasus Bridge. These will be some of the most intense battles on the morning of the big game. Want to play in a paintball tank? The 13th/18th Royal Hussars need troops to man our three tanks and two planes.
Come and join our international team of scenario players from the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Wales, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. We’ll also be hosting individual players from Germany, Poland and Malaysia. What better way to celebrate the CEF 10th Anniversary, than with international friends?
We offer group meals, shelter in steel shipping containers with air conditioning and bunks, our very own pub and a chance to become a part of the largest international paintball scenario team in the world. We also offer team training with the other CEF and Allied units and a military style full auto shoot midweek. The full auto shoot is open to all attendees of OK D-Day. If you go to a large event in North America, Europe or Australia, chances are that you will find your CEF brothers and sisters there, as well. So, sign up today!

When players come to D-Day Park they'll be required to attend the D-Day Park safety briefing, which covers the game rules they'll be expected to oberserve.
Once they've finished viewing that film, they'll be directed to the ALLIED ARMY's HQ. Upon arrival there they'll be asked to view this film before they receive their blue 'hopper cover.'

Less than a week before players start arriving at D-Day Park to start setting up camp. With folks flying in from around the globe it's a bit of a mad house, but nothing we don't come prepared to handle. If you'd like to join us for a chance to take Sword, Omaha and Utah beaches, or secure Pegasus Bridge, Caen and Colleville, you've still got time.
Remember, those of you who can't make it will also be able to view some of the action, as it happens, simply by logging into Big Joe Hero's blog. Here's that web address once again for those of you who didn't catch it before -
