Nah, I ain't going anywhere. But you are...
We've changed in the 6 years I've been here. However, it hasn't been in the good way.
- Forum was booming with new members, active and interesting topics and almost chat-like response times. - Forum started to slow down to a comfortable pace. For a year or two, the subforums were active and the regulars were familiar enough to form a little e-family. - Many of the regulars grew up/moved on, so the e-family started to dwindle. - Not enough newbies (read: regulars-to-be) have joined to replace the guys (and girl) that have already left. The e-family has become an e-household. - The spambots have invaded. Like buzzards circling a corpse, this is always a sure sign that the forum is dying...
It's a dern shame, as you guys were always pretty awesome. I've been through a lot in those 6 years since I've joined, and it seems a bunch of anonymous names on the internet were just what I needed to help me out. Through y'all, I've learned and laughed. I just wanted to say "goodbye" while there were still people to say "goodbye" to...

I miss the forum memes and traditions. Last year there was no yearbook, no awards, and I had to bump the christmas thread.

I remember the Tippmann of the Month challenges (and even Gun of the Month). I remember when the Marker Gallery actually had enough fresh material to inspire me to do my next project. I have tried my hand at a few political threads, only to quickly realize how misinformed I was. I just stick to doing what I do best: tacky tinkering. :)
When I'm done with my 'cocker build, I'm gonna post it up, just to get some fresh meat in the Gallery.

Yeah, I know I don't contribute new threads nearly as much as I used to. Sadly a lot of the life of the party just has more important things to do/ other venues of wasting time with the growth of communities like reddit.

It's more of a social commentary post, not one of my angst-driven "I NEED TO GET AWAY" posts.

I check this place everyday pretty much. Of course, I don't post much, and the political threads can really kill it in here.

And you're a member from 2005.
I can remember the summer of 2003, the first summer since converting from old blue to big red (Where I switched my old blue username of Robotman1288 to Agentwhale), being at my dad's house for the summer and being bored out of my mind at night. I'd hop on to the computers at night during prime forum time, and there would be so many people it would time out.
The system could handle 100 active users, and we would regularly max it out in the evenings.
Responses were instant for almost every topic. It kept me sane during that boring summer.
That was back when the star system was brand new (And worked) and people took it seriously.
The forum was (And still is to some extent) a way to kill off boredom in a constructive way - with dialogue, discussion, etc. I learned how to express myself better, form better arguments, etc. I never liked being at my dad's house for the summers, and with all the angst of early high school (Especially in 2002), having people online to talk to was always awesome.
Fun times.

And since there is no good reason not to turn this into a nostalgia thread, I can remember one evening during the summer of 2002 or 2003, I cannot remember which (I know it was after the switch to big red) there was an ongoing conversation between me, Trouble (Or whoever Rockslide's daughter was. I cannot remember exactly) and a user named "Kyle." I think his login was just ".Kyle," about what the worst thing you could put in a paintball would be. We settled on flesh-eating cricket.
Also, Nobody's "Do not post" thread with about 6 million posts.

Yeah, to you OG fellas, I'm still a n00bie. I can remember the insane amounts of posts the "Ask Mbro" thread got in so little time. Also, there was the Mbro cam, when Mbro was still just a bro. :)

It is true, it makes me sad. I am also on here everyday, but I am not big into politics so it leaves we with few threads of interest. But I still check in to see how everyones doing. This place really did kind of turn into a small family on the internetz for me, even though I was the second cousin twice removed that nobody really liked.

Same thing happened with another forum I used to visit (the HI one) so we started a FB page to keep tabs on people after it died.
But that was a forum for a CS original mod, (a mod within a mod? We need to go deeper!) hardly surprising it died and went away.
I don't see Tippmann going anywhere any time soon though....

I came in in 2003, but mostly lurked. I think it was Christmas 03 that KRL gave me my Gold, and that was when Gold and Plat actually meant something.I remember when the star system broke and a bunch of people got Plat on accident and I was the only one who got DEMOTED. That was bullcrap.
I remember seeing my first "the forum is going downhill!!!" post around 04, and taking it seriously. I think I've seen a hundred since, and they aren't wrong, but, I don't think I've even seen this place anywhere near its peak.
Nowadays I mostly lurk, but there's still good stuff going on here
PS - Still rocking the same sig and avatar since I came here too

My forum usage is directly proportionate to my ability to have a social life.
Hence why I'm posting every five minutes now and was gone for like two years.
I think that, as much as I hate to admit it, this forum gets noticeably more dull when FE takes leave. Makes me miss Peter / Bruce / Clark / Susan that much more.
*edit* Just to add, it's really crazy how my ideologies have really changed since I first started posting. Funny enough, talking with the more political among you had a bigger impact on me than college ever will. I should probably be grateful.

Yeah it's been come ad go fr me on here snce started on hrem too remember and miss the super duper response times for posts but reckon it was wasted on me when was 14 and trolling/ talking bollocks.
I don't really come on as much now and it is mostly because of the gun/political threads dominating these days and although these topics are fine just simply don't have much to say on them. - will aways stop by ery so often ad don't see that changing too soon so it will be interesting to see going on in another 10 years.
Anyway man up ladies, lets not get all interior design about it.

I don't remember much about my early times on the forum (I was in 8th grade) but imagine I was probably like every other 8th grader on the internet. Rumors of the Super Chromium (er...Chronium?) barrell were still fresh, daily questions about the HellHound, the inception of PBchat, and however many chicks that guy said were on the beach with him.
I also remember someone photo shopping a photo of me (possibly Enos) in some Christmas related photo.

Definitely haven't been posting as much as I used to. I think working in a field other than IT has done that to me.
That said, mother will always be on my bookmarks as long as she's in existence.
It really does seem that social networking and crap is slowly killing forums. I dunno. Progress, I guess.

Reddit isn't really a forum in the traditional sense, and that's exactly what it does.

I know, but so does this forum. I don't know if I would call Reddit "social networking" either. I would refer to facebook, twitter, and google plus for that.
