Anybody else love suits? I've started to get an itch for them and think they should be somthing I should start collecting. Nothing gets you smiles and compliments like being suited up. For new years I bought a new Sean Jean(suprisingly nice) 3 piece suit. With some clark dress shoes. Hitting up montreal with a crew all suited up. Should be a good time.Whats everyones favorite styles of suits?
Also, dress shoes. Laced or Not, that is the question. What do you like better?
I thought I liked laced better, looked more classy. Till the 10 of a sales women said she likes the slip ons...
So yea, suits...

I have a suit but have not worn it since high school. When I do dress up — when the social obligation is to dress up, at least — I tend to go more with the offset blazer and slacks look. I have three blazers: A navy blue, a black, and a sort of grey twill looking one. Those combined give me an option with pretty much any of my slacks. I also have my paisley tie collection, so I've got ties to match pretty much anything. And ties that don't match anything but I wear them anyway. I've got a leather belt in black and brown, so I'm always covered (I've also got a variety of rope/cloth belts if I'm feeling particularly frisky). I own dress shoes but again, rarely if ever wear them. I enjoy dressing nice and wearing sort of alternate shoes as a conversation piece (And it's an acceptable move in the circles in which I'm needing to dress nice). I'll typically wear black slip-on Vans or black Converse with white laces. I also got these two shoes for Christmas: The pair on the right are leather all-black slip-on Vans, and will probably become my go-to casual dress shoe. I've even discovered they shine pretty well. Who knew I'd ever find myself shining a Van slip-on. The pair on the left are faux wing-tip Van lace-ups. I'm excited to wear these to a conference, but they're a bit too much for everyday wearing around.  |

| I use my suits for 3 things. Weddings, interviews, and funerals. Otherwise it's just a khakis and tie kind of affair. |

If I have an excuse to get suited up then I'm all over it. My 2 court suits have done me well so far. I have a charcoal grey number and a Ben Sherman pinstripe or should I say did have a Ben Sherman pinstripe. I lost the trousers one evening and my shoes that went with it. (Hence the second suit) As for shoes I always preferred the lace ups but I actually use a pair of equally nice slip ons.
Although over here weddings, if it's a family member tend to get the Kilt rather than suit and swanky do's will get the skirt as well so the suit gets a bit neglected. |

| Call me old fashioned but I do love the cap toe oxford, slips ons are fine but a cap toe or wingtip can be beautiful. |

I have had my only suit since I was a sophomore in HS. The pants still fit, but the jacket is way small. But I wore it back in April anyways. It looked like crap. -------------

I always tell myself that I pull off suits well, though it may just be a coping mechanism since I hate how hot they get. Lace up dress, every time. For NYE I'll probably just wear nice jeans and a button down, still deciding on the tie. Edited to remove pictar of me once I realized no one else had posted on. Edited again to add this. The only two suits I have ever owned was a black baggy rayon suit I bought in the late 80's and a tux that I bought when I was in my late 20's. Mostly I like the versatility of slacks and jackets. ------------- "When I grow up I want to marry a rich man and live in a condor next to the beach" -- My 7yr old daughter. |

I've noticed a lot of people being too open with their clothing in dress up situations, particularly with interviews. During some of my med school interviews, which should be a conservative, best presentation possible situation, many people would wear bright colors or odd attire. A blazer, khakis and a bright yellow bow tie just doesn't cut it in my opinion; neither dose a pink sweater and short skirt for a woman. In contrast, all of the 'older' interviewees seem to have very conservative dress, in black or navy with a white shirt and subdued tie (how I dress). I own black and grey suits, as well as a navy blazer with various dress pants. The shoe is always a black or brown oxford. Boring? Sure. But it's professional. On another note: has anyone ventured into cufflinks? I accidentally bought a cufflink shirt and didn't notice until the morning of an interview; had to improvise to make it look like a regular cuff. I still haven't made the jump and purchased a pair of cufflinks though. ------------- |
