Synopsis:  Seventh Day Adventists try keep McDonald's out of CA city.

Funny Points:  Church representative saying no one will probably go to hell for their eating habits and the fact that the majority of the pro-McDonalds' people appear to be one Big Mac away from a major coronary event.  Also, the fact that it is California where I would expect this to happen just based on the granola/hippie percentage of the population as opposed to being based on religion.

Wait there is a town in the USA without a MiccyD's?

That being said it is probably a good thing to not have one.

There is no need for one.

I grew up sort of Adventist, and my grandmother is ardent Adventist.

They are a kooky bunch.

Without clicking the link, I can tell you that it's Loma Linda, Cali. It's their little gathering city, for some reason. They have a medical school there that is well known. Adventists are big in getting into medicine, not sure why.

Adventists are big about following the Fourth Commandment, to "remember the seventh day and keep it holy." Adventists treat Saturday like the Jews treat Sabbath: They don't work, they don't watch TV, they don't go anywhere other than church. It's a day where they do nothing but read the Bible and sit around the house all day long. Because of that, mail in Loma Linda doesn't run on Saturday. (It's also the reason I never did cool things with my friends on Saturdays when I was a little kid).

As for the dietary stuff, they follow a lot of the Levitican dietary laws that Jews do. At the minimum, no pork, no fish without scales and fins, etc.

Adventists have a prophet (Despite the fact they don't like to call her a prophet sometimes) called Ellen G. White, who apparently spoke the word of God through her, and God said to not eat any meat. So that's why a lot of SDA members are also vegetarian and oppose eating meat.

By the way, Ellen G. White also suspiciously happened to show almost all of the symptoms of epilepsy. They don't like to talk about that.

Adventists are only a few notches below Witnesses in the ranking of crazy for Christian sects.

I just want to make it clear that any alleged concerns about any potential  health related issues associated with eating fine foods such as McDonalds is a conspiracy theory and should be dealt with via extreme prejudice immediately and needs to be extinguished with aggression in an emergency-like fashion. yum/good/?

On a side note, for some reason McD's food makes me sick. Their beef for some reason or another always makes me feel like throwing up. Its not fast food, either. I generally eat garbage greasy food.

Arent 7th Day Adventists Vegetarian? IIRC, one of the bigger Hospitals in Orlando was owned/run by the 7th day Adventists and you could not get a burger or anything with red meat in it. I had to sneak my wife in some food when she had out first daughter because everything was really gross.

Some are vegetarians, not all.

The really orthodox ones tend to be full vegetarians (They also don't eat any spice in their food, and think yellow mustard, black pepper, etc., is one of the causes of most medical ills), while the more modern ones just don't eat pork.

They do run half of the hospitals in central Florida — it's the Florida Hospital Waterman chain.

And they aren't totally wrong. There are a lot of health issues linked to most modern foods and red meat.

That being said you need to handle a vegetarian diet properly as well. With modern supplements this isn't too hard but still something to watch.

Unless someone is powerlifting or something of that nature, a vegetarian diet will provide pretty much everything needed without needing many supplements, I do believe.

I tried a piece of tofu from a Chinese restaurant a few days ago.  I think I spit it all the way in my neighbors yard into their lap.  From the other side of town.
