Does anyone know much about them? I just had a background check done in order to rent an apartment and they said there was something showing up in the amount of 2,118.00USD. I called the background company to get more info and they said something about a "lean on my taxes" and it was put on by the "**** County Auditor" which struck me as odd. My state has no income tax and if my Federal Taxes were being audited the IRS would handle that, not the County Auditor. I can call them tomorrow to get more information because they were closed for the Holiday today. My guess is someone made a mistake and due to my having a common last name it might have something to do with it. In the mean time, I'm trying to think of all possibilities as to what could have happened if this wasn't a mistake.

Do you own any property? A cabin or hunting land?

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

It'd be on your credit report which you can get for free at http://www.annualcreditreport.com" rel="nofollow - http://www.annualcreditreport.com

If it IS a mistake, you need to get a letter from your county tax dept saying you don't owe the money and never did. Then send that letter to all three credit bureaus along with a letter disputing that item to have it removed from your report.

If you do indeed owe it. Pay it off ASAP because it accrues interest that will eff you over down the road.

As MBro said, county auditors typically handle property taxes.

Well it definitely isn't mine. It's from 2009, never owned property back then and don't own any now. Don't own a business that the county auditor could claim and the Lien was put on by the county record. Turns out someone with my same name skipped out on a medical bill or two. Gotta love the gov't efficiency.

Ha. Thanks for that link Tallen. Just disputed the Lien and then took a look at the personal information they had for me. They had an address VERY close to the one I grew up in, but with a different street listed and in a different city. So basically just the same house number. I'm feeling like there may be a connection between the two. Can't wait to have this hang over me for the roughly 10 years it will take our "oh so efficient" gov't to get it sorted out.

Like I said, take it up with the county tax administration, get a letter absolving you of the lien, and then forward that letter to all three credit agencies and it'll be off your record in under 30 days.

What are the odds on someone else having the name snipa69?
