Hello everyone. For the last few months, i've been looking at a Tippmann A5 paintball marker. From what I have read, seems like a lot of people recommend this gun. Im somewhat new to paintball, since i haven't played in around 2 years, mostly because my old paintball gun was heavy and jammed a lot, so i sold it LOL

The number 1 thing i love about the A5, is how it can be easily customized to any specifications. My older paintball markers had awful sights, terrible butt-stocks and absolutely no range on them ( I couldn't even shoot across a small speedball arena Cry

). With the A5, i can fix those old problems to fit my standards, but I am not sure what are some good parts to use for them. I have been told much about how the A5 functions with the factory parts it comes with, and i think while i go out and purchase it, i might as well pick them up while I am there.

I'm mostly only looking for a few parts i can put on so i can dominate on the field. Im mostly looking for a good barrel, good stock, and a good sight. I have been looking at a Flatline barrel with built in rails but are there any others i should be aware of? Any opinions on stocks would be nice also, or even some decent sights (either Iron sights or red dots, don't matter to me). I'm also 100% sure ill buy a cyclone feed system and a remote line for my CO2.

The A5 comes with the cyclone feed system so you dont have to worry about that. As for your previous marker jamming, make sure you clean your marker and buy paint that isnt warped, brittle, and fits nicely in your barrel. Right off the bat, you just saved some money for upgrades. As for stocks, see what they have available in your area. Test it right there in the store for quaility. I perfered a solid, non folding, non collapsable stock on my A5. It did make the marker alot heavier. Also for me, the red dot scope was there for looks and only made the marker bulkier. If possible test these accessories on the marker before you buy. I prefer a remote line on my markers to move the weight of the air tank to my back instead of behind the marker. I just use the one tippmann sells. As for barrels most players recommend barrel kits so that a wider range of paint can be used.

The A5 comes with nice stock sights but if you put a stock on it, the stock will interfere with your mask and prevent use of the sights. Unless, of course, you get a dog-leg or drop-down stock designed to allow you to still get on the sights. As far as range, most markers have the same range at the same velocity. That is, a Brass Eagle Stingray will shoot just as far as a Tippmann A5 if both are shooting at 280 fps.

My recommendation is to not make any after-market purchases until having used the marker in stock configuration for a while and figuring out what you really need/want and what you may not need/want. As far as internal upgrades, there are very few that actually improve the performance of Tippmann markers. Further research on this forum, once you have had hands-on experience with your marker, should provide more information on that subject.

I will disagree with God here as my preference with stocks is the folding ones. (But you have to get a good one, the cheaper plastic ones do not provide stability; JCS used to make some really nice ones.)

and a good sight.

This is something else that I have to disagree with God on. I find sights to be useful at longer ranges when you really need to eliminate an opponent with minimal shots. As paintballs are naturally inaccurate projectiles you should not expect pinpoint accuracy with a sight but they will get you in the general vicinity so that you don't have so far to "walk" the paint in. I will also say that everyone should try playing without one first because they may find they don't need them or desire them.

The Flatline is a great barrel but it is not the barrel I recommend for someone's first after-market barrel. It is more of an additional tool in the toolbox kind of barrel. Most people on here will recommend a J&J or Lapco as your first after-market barrel. (Searching the forum will turn up many threads related to barrels.)

Cyclone is the stock feed system that comes with the A5.

Thanks for the advice! To answer your question, my old marker was i think a BT Omega Elite, but was completely solid, no rails, semi auto fire, fixed shroud and the iron sights/ handle was fixed to the gun. It was incredibly heavy and a pain to run in the field with. Wasn't very accurate and i cleaned it after every use. Not saying BT has bad markers, it just wasn't the one for me. I like to run and survey the enemy areas so i can learn their base and quickly shoot anyone who is trying to guard the base. You are right about the stock, how it can interfere with my mask and i won't be able to see down sight. Forgot to take that into consideration, but i think i could probably deal with the one that comes with he A5, and if it doesn't work for me, ill invest in a small folding stock (like a Ops Gear folding stock). I do like the Lapco barrels from what i have seen from them also. Im mostly looking for a long range barrel with some good accuracy Tongue
