Anybody going to go see the new movie Act of Valor? I was watching Sons of Guns (RedJackets TV show) and they said that the Navy Seals in the movie are REAL Navy Seals who are trained to do what they are doing in the movie. They also said that they will be using real guns (RedJacket supplied) and live ammunition. I cant wait to go see it! Im guessing it will most likely be showing what these Seals are doing to fight for us. Some people I know think that the Army, Marines, and Seals dont do anything.... They are putting their lifes on the line for us, Somebody needs to knock some since into these morons. I bet those people couldn't stand one hour of what these guys go through! Time to start showing some respect for these guys.

It just sort of seems to me like it's a combination of a niche stunt show and a 90-minute commercial for the Navy.

I read the novelization by Tom Clancy.  It was ok.  I will wait for the movie to come out on Netflix because I am cheap that way and am still actively hoping for the demise of our one local theater.

Either make a movie, or a documentary. Don't try and combine the two

^^^ Would that be a "dovie" or a "mocumentary?"

Its definitely all movie, but the guns are realistic and the gun porn is also awesome.  Girlfriend cried at the end.

The whole FILMED USING REAL NAVY SEALS thing kind of makes the movie seem crappy.

This is not a reflection of what the SEALS do as a job; however, the movie was awful. If I want to see guns, I'll find videos on YouTube. The movie was so painful I couldn't wait for it to end.

I'm on a kick to stop using the word "irony" against its own meaning, but I was quite tempted here.

The army and the SEALS are two vastly different groups.

As different as land and water.

I kind of suspected this.  When Tom Clancy can't make the novelization of a movie more than mildly interesting it does not bode well as a quality indicator for the movie in question.

On topic, I didn't plan on watching it. The whole setup struck me as gimmicky, and action / war movies can be a tough sell without the gimmicks.

Grats to any extra pay the SEALS got for the gig though, they deserve it more than any actor or sports player I can think of.

From what I understand it was originally supposed to be a recruitment piece for the SEALS, they let them film some training, accepted their pyrotechnics and funding to make it cooler, and got OKed to try to make it into a movie for release. I've had the pleasure of meeting some of the guys who do this stuff (who would never directly confirm it) and they really don't need to be in movies to pull in chicks or drink for free, or to mention their specific affiliations to do the same. Forget the extra cash (although they deserve it) but these guys are mostly adrenaline junkies who don't function in any way that resembles normal human beings.

Seconded.  All of the SF/SEALS that I have met, despite being BOTW worthy 53 weeks out of the year, are some of the most down to Earth, humble guys I have ever met.

Yeah I've met a few SF guys, none of them had even half the ego of the alcoholic country bumpkins around here.

I think that most of them remain pretty closed off to the general public though. I've only had one or two open up and actually talk about their state of mind to me, the rest generally only share those things with their fellow soldiers. In fact, especially true with Marines, lots of them only open up in their own branch.

But for the most part military guys are pretty cool people to hang around with. With my dad, brother, and uncle all having served (my uncle was SF in Vietnam) I've been around military and police my whole life and I think theue behavior and attitudes influenced the way I think about things quite a bit.

I've met a few of the females with kind of a "something to prove" attitude, but then again that probably comes with the territory.

Anyway, movie should be good fun, I've been waiting for a reboot of triumph of the will, interesting that they decided to go for a prequel though.

I won't go see this. The only people who asked me to go were those who wanted to join the military but couldn't. My brother and I had a quick conversation that wen't something like this:

Him: So do you SF guys get excited for this type of exposure?

Me: Nope. Never gets completely accurate anyways due to Hollywood theatrics

Him: So are you gonna go see...

Me: Nope.
