I guess when it rains bad luck, it pours it.
Just got a certified letter from our landlady. We've got until the 31st of May to find a place to move. Our downstairs neighbor moved out and that screwed us since she was living in an illegal apartment down there. Now the landlady can't afford the house since she won't be able to find anyone else to take it. Just over 30 days to find a place. UGH!

That sucks a massive pickled dong.
I say you get a bunch of guns and make them force you out.
EDIT: Make them force you out while brandishing all your guns.

Are you being evicted by your landlady, or was she foreclosed on or something? Are you in lease?
You may have more options if you aren't in violation of your lease, maybe more time to find a place anyway.

Was given 30 days notice according to the provisions in the lease. Our 1 year lease was up in October, and since I've been working in MD, and the wife is looking for a job away from Alexandria where we live (she hates it here now) we were fine going month-to-month which is what the lease defaults to once the initial year is up.
Our landlady is in real estate, and I'm guessing she isn't the best of agents in the world and the housing market has made pretty short work of everyone except the very, very best agents. She has another property or two that are cheaper, but she bought this place just before the boom, and I think she's leveraged herself into a corner with it.
The downstairs "apartment" is totally illegal. No window in the bedroom for egress, and the house is zoned R200 anyway, which means 2 dwellings per acre. The house sits on a 1/3rd acre lot, as do the houses next to it, so even having the downstairs in-law suite/apartment is against zoning regs.
The girl that rented that space did so because she has a potentially dangerous dog and couldn't find anywhere else to live. But she and her boyfriend have decided to move in together somewhere outside the metro area so their dogs can have room to run without danger to others.
I guess the landlady knows she can't get someone else for down there because it's illegal, and our rent alone isn't going to pay the pre-crash mortgage plus utilities, upkeep, and maintenance. So she's decided it's the best of the properties she owns to put up for sale. It's a nice neighborhood, but the house is run down. Masonry needs some major tuck pointing, Kitchen plumbing is all improperly vented and sloped, electrical panel is under-sized and overloaded which means there are probably tons of illegal junctions in the ceiling downstairs, and the roof is shot. I wish her the best of luck selling it and getting enough out of it to pay off what she has left on it.
We may see if she has a spot at one of her other houses we could go month-to-month in, and she's offered to help us find a place as well. We'll see what happens.
If Erin gets the job at the school like we think she will, none of this will matter because we'll just move to MD and she'll commute to Alexandria until the new job starts. Then we can save up dough to buy out of the lease when we decide to buy a house.
Everything will work out in the end, it just seems like we've hit a big streak of bad luck recently between owing taxes, my car being on its last legs, her finding really promising jobs and then being overshadowed or screwed over at the last minute, and now this. Frustrating as all hell.

yowch. Good luck finding a place. I can sort of see the position the landlady is in, but still, you get to be on the suck end of things here.

Best of luck. Landlords suck for the most part in my experience. I was forced to find an apartment in one day, or start paying 135$ per night for the hotel I was in. Luckily the people at the housing office are amazing and helped me find a great upstairs apartment with the sweetest old couple for landlords. Every couple of weeks I will come home from work to find a couple bottles of beer on my stairs.
