Sweaty. I went to replace the U-Joints in my truck (so that I could install a shift kit in my transmission later in the week), but my jack decided it wasn't going to have any part in it.

Now I am inside drinking Mountain Dew and I might watch the new Wilfred episodes. I think Mountain Dew has nicotine in it.

I found out this morning the philosophy paper I have spent all week procrastinating isn't due for another two days - which was exciting.

Aside from that, a slow day at work and hunger.

Been teaching kids how to not filet themselves when using knives in a kitchen. So far I've been successful. Now I'm going through 16 weeks of menus for the coming school year making tweaks to them for submission for approval. Should be done in another hour or so, which is good as I am getting a massive headache from staring at a computer screen for hours on end.

Also, probably going to be buying a house in the next few months. So that's exciting.

We're looking at these two houses right now:

Lousy.

Still no work except for the few 'under the table' jobs I've scored the last few weeks.
Wife's entering the late stages of her pregnancy as the weather's been a nice simmering 90 degrees making her irritable, irrational and dangerous.
despite no job, I have to shell out a few hundred bucks to rent two tuxedos for two different weddings that I'm only a few weeks apart.
I found out that I have to miss a bachelor 'outing' which is a duck hunting trip for the first groom because its the same weekend as the wedding of the second guy.

I'm grumpy.

Pretty good. Got good sleep, still have a decent job.

Looking at getting an apartment here in 3 or 4 months, that should be nice.

Raced my buddy's WRX sti the other night, lost miserably LOL I almost traded my car off until he told me the list of work he had done to the car...of course now I'm more motivated than ever to get my supercharger.

Hoping to hear back from a police department soon...about to spam more applications. Thinking about joining the Union Pacific railroad. Trying to figure out where my continued education fits in here.

Busy, been working at a local truck center working on freightlines/western stars/sterling. Gotta love trying to save money to get an apartment when I get out of college and having to buy more tools all at the same time.

Finally found a job after 8 months of being unemployed, so that feels good.

What doesn't feel good is how short the weekends seem now.

Working on getting a job with the highway patrol or a local PD right now. Doing some odd work at the range occasionally.

It's been really hot here lately. I think they said on the news last week that we broke the record in NC for most consecutive days over 100*.

After procrastinating for a few hours I went out and pulled my driveshaft, only to find out one of the U-Joints a store sold me is not the right side. So I hope they will exchange it for the right one and I can fix my truck tomorrow. Until then, I am going to watch TV and drink some crappy Miller Lite.

As for most of you wanting to become LEO's, a part of me wants to try to find a job as a small-town LEO somewhere in the sticks. Definitely not going to happen, though, since almost nobody is hiring and I don't want to be a plane-ticket away from home.

If I became desperate for an LEO job, I would go for the NYPD. They hire every year and hired my cousin-in-law two years ago. If he can get a job there... I definitely can. Not trying to sound pompous, but it is true.

The kind that involves philosophizing.

We were talking about free will vs determinism, but we're about to start the final section of the course and start looking at arguments for and against the existence of god.

Oh god, enjoy the butthurt classmates. That's a conversation my philosophy class got into day one that bogged down the whole semester.

I didn't enjoy the discussion regarding the existence of a deity so much as the focus on logic and argumental fallacies. Does your class have a final paper revolving around defending a position (materialism, duality, etc)?

I did a class on Derrida and Gadamer this past spring term. It was very interesting and it was certainly a mental workout after a few years of boring PoliSci (I swear, the people they let into college these days, but that's another post...), but I will say this: The thing I learned the most about in that class was light. I often got kind of lost and had to let my mind wander to get a grip on concepts, and the room was high up above the skyline of the city, facing west, and class was at sunset, so I spent a lot of time thinking about the complex light patterns int he room and how I could apply them to my photography. Point being, no matter where you are or what you are doing, there are lessons to be learned if you are willing to look.

I genuinely cannot argue with determinism. I like the idea that I am in control and apply this assumption in everyday life but logically I can't find a way round it.

I did a bit of philosophy along with my law course but only really touched on the subject. Most of it, I found was really a study in pedantic noisery.

It made me a real prick to talk to for a while but I liked it.

I've loved philosophy so far, other than some of my classmates. A lot of people have a big issue with, "Okay, I know you believe X in real life, but lets pretend that you didn't for 5 whole minutes and see what happens."

I have the same problem with determinism. It's the argument from introspection, it appears to me that I have free will to choose but that's not a valid form of proof. Logically speaking, I can't find a thing wrong with determinism.

I'm actually pretty glad we are ending on the topic of god. With my background in private christian schools, I'm at least pretty familiar with most of the material and arguments. This way I can end the semester with a good final grade.
Edit: We actually aren't having a final. We've had a 5-10 page paper due every two weeks covering whatever we have been studying during each section. 4 in total. Our grade is made up mostly of those papers, plus class participation and all that jazz.

Yeah, makes me glad I don't live in Vancouver Choopie.

Eville, http://money.msn.com/family-money/the-richest-counties-in-america" rel="nofollow - I live in one of the richest counties in America, soooooo low-end is 300K and the only reason that those two homes are decent is because they're at the north end of the county (and thus, you have to deal with the momos driving down from Fredneck.

You really don't want to see what Shorty paid $350k for back in '04 or '05
