Anyone else watching sports in all of their free time? Because that's what I'm doing.
I woke up and watched men's road cycling. Because why not.

Today I learned that Olympic badminton players are bulkier than bantamweight boxers.

I will watch most sports featuring American teams/players, if it isn't swimming. I know that is cutting out a lot of sports, but I really can't get into it if I can't root for my country, and there is a godawful amount of swimming on TV.
I will watch swimming finals, but that is about it.

I heard a short interview of the womens whatever silver medalist. I felt really bad for her. She won a silver medal in the freakin Olympics, and all the interviewer wanted to talk to her about was Phelps losing his race.

I've been watching. I had a job to do and it would have normally taken me about 5 hours...
It took about 12 because I kept watching the olympics...
The guy that took a header in the cycling Saturday morning, man that would be the worst, he led for so long, and to go out like that...
What a bummer.
Glad for the "new" American Swimmer, he kicked phelps rear, and it was fun to watch.
The women's double diving got scammed, the judges clearly didn't like them for some reason... Course they still got silver! Great dives.
And the gymnastics. That ladies valuting was insane. That last girl went so stinking high! I used to mess around on the gymnast gear at woodward (where most of the US Olympians train) and that stuff is crazy hard to do.
Good games so far, A friend worked on the opening ceremonies. Which were a little too "political" for me...
He had tons of BMX guys who were training for it, and did all the preliminary stuff, only for them to drop them at the last minute...

You mean Lochte? The guy who sank the Men's 4x100 relay team single-handedly? Looked like he expended all of his energy beating Phelps for a single medal and didn't save any of it for the team event.

Bet I can guess why FE enjoyed him beating phelps.

I think the Chinese rightfully won that by the small fraction that they did. However, I don't understand how the Canadians came through with Bronze... all of their dives were quite noticeably out of sync at at least one point.

They got extra points because they don't get to practice in Canada with all the water being frozen.

Kayla Harrison won the USA's first gold in Judo today.
http://www.cleveland.com/olympics/index.ssf/2012/08/ohio_native_kayla_harrison_rea.html" rel="nofollow - She's got a hell of a story. Her previous coach was convicted of sexually abusing his students, including her.
Also, holy crap RSA out of nowhere in the lightweight men's 4.

Well, if that wouldn't motivate you to beat the living crap out of people in the ring, I don't know what would.

By that logic, everyone in Australia should be able to run faster than Usain Bolt and swim faster than Phelps! Down there, they chase you on the land AND in the water.

Pistorius qualified for the finals of the 400m.
If he medals, I hope there is a rational conversation about his position at the Olympics, but I know that probably won't happen, and we'll end up with people screaming about unfair advantage/ableism.

I don't expect him to place. I hope he does, I really do, but his start is absolutely critical and it is one place where he does have trouble. Today his start was bang on the money.
And he even admitted he's done what he wanted to do, compete in the Olympics.

Will someone Tell me why Michael phelps is known as the greatest swimmer when theres a crazy 1500m race? What's that like worth 7 of his medal races?

If he were to race the 1500m, he wouldn't have any energy to compete in the other races. He chooses the races he can do as many as possible and have energy left in the tank for each one. He is the most decorated Olympian. That's big, but I do feel like swimming races are too similar and there are way too many races and chances for medals.

I sorta agree. If you play table tennis for example, you get one medal per Games. In swimming you get 4 strokes over 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and international medly as well. Jeesh.

Yeah but if Australians were good at running then they probably wouldn't be Australians to start with.

So remember when Usain Bolt won gold and broke the record for the 100m in Beijing?

Good. Lord. He is a fast person.

For the first time in my life, I actively cheered against a US team to win. Here's the reason why:

Sooooo much better than those leather-skinned 4/10's we keep fielding in women's beach volleyball.

^^^ Was that the Czech team? I saw them playing against the U.S. and was like... Wow!.
And I must salute the perv who was actually able to get the Olympic committee to approve a "sport" where hot Russian and Asian chicks roll around on a the floor in barely anything and play with balls like kittens while doing splits and dry humping the floor. I might have to record that for later when the kids aren't home.... Rhythmic Gymnastics FTW! I serioulsy have not seen legs that incredible in a very long time.

Yup! If you get their last names and google them, you can see their topless calender shots (they cover everything important with arms and stuff, but still).
