Os and I have been playing this.it's free, I believe stand alone and a pretty hard core ww2 sim.huge maps and caters well to squadren play.

Due to the large maps it can be difficult to connect with squad members at times but we run a 2 man, mixed weapon team with OS calling the plays, he snipes and I haul the Browning m1919 machine gun with stealth being the m.o.  We pop in, achieve objectives and scoot out.  As a testament to the effectiveness of our plan of stealth I haven't fired a single round out of the machine gun to date.  There's plenty of room for trouble making, lead sending squads too.

The learning curve for enemy/friendly identification is steep and comes with time.

system requirements:

Minimum: CPU: 1.2 GHZ or Equivalent, 512 MB RAM, Video Card: 64 MB DX9 Compliant, 2 GB free hard drive space, DX 8.1 Compatible Audio, Windows 2000/XP
Recommended: CPU: 2.4 GHZ, Video Card: 128 MB DX9 Compliant with PS 2.0 support, Sound Card: Eax Compatible

It is a fun shooter, and a thinker. But more than not it is two 20man groups of individuals wandering around on thier own missions. Teamwork is more akin the 'herding cats'.

I do play the Infantry (Sniper) role on tank maps, for I am no tanker. I have over 150 tank commander kills as I pop with my rifle the TC when he pops the hatch to use the binos. And since these tanks are manned by a simgle 'super tanker' rather than a crew, I have 'killed' a King Tiger with one .30/06 round in the TC's brain housing group. The tanks just idles empty till it vanishes and respawns, but I have taken out a tank for over 10min.

Worth it as a fun shooter, I have drifted to Red Orchestra 2, and the marksman (sniper) role, and our core group always bounces whoever is on the sniper rifle when I sign on, I have made kills (headshots or in cover minimal exposure)in excess of 250-300m with the rifle, and as usual the amatuers go to the hollywood positions and I just take em out. Points are not my prio, I look for the human players and usually leave the AI bots alone, more fun watching the humand do all the right things and I nail em just when they think they did it right. Best game was taking out the German officer going for the same radio in the same place 8 times, I was on the 7 o'clock flank shooting through the bunker side door, he was backlighted by the 'light' in the bunker, amnd headshot 8 times, and called me a cheat.....till I showed him next game as he followed me where I was and how I did it, lesson learned, as I repeated the exercise on the next German officer.

Just not into the 'modern' or battlefield games...too hokie for me.
